Alkoomi Black Label Riesling
Frankland River
Available in cartons of six
It was the planting of Riesling vines at Alkoomi in 1971 which firmly established Frankland River as one of the nation's finest white wine growing regions. The inaugural vintages of Alkoomi Riesling enthused the Australian industry press and inspired growers to take up viticulture. Black Label is sourced from the oldest of Alkoomi's blocks, its penetrating length of Bickford lime juice characters and clean lingering finish makes it the wine of choice to accompany the freshest game fish, west coast marron or moreton bay bugs.

Frankland River's long, cool ripening conditions are perfect for growing fruit of intense varietal character. The balmy climes encourage vines into yielding grapes of the most intense varietal profile whilst retaining the freshness of crisp natural acidity. Fruit is harvested throughout the cool of night and early hours of morning from the oldest Alkoomi estate Riesling vines. Parcels are gently crushed with a view to minimizing phenolics and treated to a term of cold settling. The exclusively free run juices are vinified in chilled fermenters to preserve integrity and exquisite character of old vines Alkoomi Riesling. The most superior batches are assembled into the finished Black Label.

Pale brilliant straw emerald hues. An immaculate nose of kaffir limes, banana crisp and citrus zest, talc and white floral notes. Intense flavours of lime and mineral slate, an array of pure tropical fruit flavours, chalk and calico characters are carried along by a backbone of fine linear acidity.

Alkoomi Grazing Cabernet Merlot
Frankland River
Merv and Judy Lange are true pioneers of the Frankland River winegrowing region, they planted their first single hectare of Alkoomi vines by hand, way back in 1971. Today, Alkoomi is one of the largest family owned labels in Western Australia. The balmy mesoclimes which surround their salubrious Frankland River property are so similar to those of Bordeaux, heaven sent for the construct of intensely aromatic Cabernet Merlot wines with magnificent structure, elegance and charm.

From their initial planting, Alkoomi's area under vine expanded throughout the 1980s and 1990s, growth of vineyards has continued steadily, without sacrificing the naturally low yields which produce wines with a concentration of good flavour. Vines are all pruned by hand, harvesting occurs in the cool of morning, usually starting just after midnight to ensure grapes arrive at the winery in top condition. Exclusively estate grown Merlot and Cabernet are picked at healthy levels of Baume off several individual blocks. Parcels are treated to three days of cold soak for extraction of good colour and fine tannin, followed by a course of ferments and a year's maturation in French oak.

Deep red with crimson hues. Bouquets of mulberry, blood plum and cassis meld with attractive crushed violets, notes of mint and spicy oak. Medium to full bodied palate, displaying a complex blend of flavours reminiscent of dark plums and cassis. Fine grained satin textured tannins lead to a lingering finish of cassis fruit supported by lovely spiced oak. Drinking well right now with a rich tomato pasta or juicy steak.

Alkoomi Grazing Chardonnay
Frankland River
Alkoomi take full advantage of the cool, maritime Frankland River climes, to encourage the development of all the charming fruit characters which articulate a fresh, unwooded Chardonnay. Young and young at heart, minus the oak and with a little more oomph than usual for this type of wine, finished to a crisp, fruit driven styling, it lingers long and fruit forward with some cheeky punch bowl flavours, lime rickey, pawpaw and peach. Its wonderful freshness make it a cinch with all cosmopolitan luncheon fare.

Alkoomi make a judicious use of water supplied from on site dams to prevent vine stress during extended dry periods, without sacrificing the naturally low yields that produce concentrated flavours. The vines are all pruned by hand, harvesting occurs in the cool of very early morning, usually starting at 2.00 am, to ensure that grapes arrive at the winery in top condition. Chardonnay is harvested throughout the cooler hours and pressed, juices are settled overnight and racked over a high proportion of juice solids. Upon completion of ferments, batches are held on sedimentery lees, regularly stirred to build complexity and texture before bottling.

Brilliant pale gold, emerald hues. Aroma of peaches and cream with subtle savoury notes. Honeydew melon and white peach on the palate with hints of vanilla and hazelnut and creamy textural structure underpinned by soft, mineral acidity. A generously proportioned wine made to appreciate in its youth, vibrant and fresh.
Alkoomi Grazing Semillon Sauvignon
Frankland River
Available by the dozen
A timely and topical accord of Frankland River fruit, sourced from the oldest blocks on Alkoomi Estate vineyards. Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc are so well suited to this part of the world, that they brought narcissism to new levels after partnering off as the classically dry white. Components are fermented and aged on sedimentery yeast lees, achieving a style that's interwoven with savoury, creamy textural notes supported by fine, cool climate acidity.

The cool climate and gravelly loam soils of Frankland River are well suited to the production of intense white wines. Alkoomi Vineyard is located just eighty kilometers inland from the Southern Ocean, where vines are nourished by good winter rains and stimulated by dry ripening months. Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc are harvested in the early hours of morning, preserving the delicate varietal flavours. Fruit is transferred to fermenters and vinified on gross lees for added texture and complexity, followed by a course of maceration to build textural richness and early bottling to capture and retain freshness.

Pale straw with light green hues. Lifted bouquet of sugar snap peas and freshly cut grass over a sweet core of vanilla. Elegant and fine, displays rich guava and passionfruit flavours associated with Sauvignon Blanc, supported by lingering lemon curd, bright acidity and a creamy textural mouthfeel from the barrel ferment Semillon.
