From those wonderful folks who invented Riesling, Hugel is one of the world's great wines. The grapes are grown in a region that has been crafting stylistically distinguishable wines for millenia, made exclusively from fruit grown to vineyards in and around Riquewihr, managed by vignerons under contracts which have lasted for generations. $3599each $429DOZEN EACH DOZEN Alsace is a winegrowing region that was intially developed by the ancient Romans. The Riesling fruit here is healthy and highly aromatic, with remarkable natural acids that imbue vital crunchy expressions to the fine, classic wines. The grapes are taken in small tubs to the presses, which are filled by gravity, without any pumping or other mechanical intervention. After pressing, the must is decanted for a few hours, then fermented in a combination of temperature controlled barrels and vats at 18°C to 24°C. The wine is racked just once, before natural clarification during the course of the winter. The following spring, Hugel is lightly filtered just before bottling and a spell of ageing under the estate cellars.

Predominantly green hints reveal youth. The bouquet quickly awakens the senses, lively with just a touch of that arrogance that is so characteristic of Alsace Riesling, clean and focused. This dry, elegant, fresh young wine is lively, frank and refreshingly quaffable, ideal for all those who appreciate classic Riesling. All this and more, an agreeable fruit character of green apple, white peach, citrus, grapefruit and spring blossom.
