Riesling is grown on two blocks, older vines on Rocky Knoll and younger plantings on a beautiful elevated terrace. Clones GM110, GM 94 and GM 198, low vigour yields of small berries with excellent concentration and uniformity, are picked over the course of several weeks. Fruit is gently whole bunch pressed being careful not to over extract, preserving the quality and finesse. Additions of SO2 are kept to a minimum, which in turn reduces the amount of tannin fix in the wine. Juices are racked to tank and slowly vinified with a specially cultured yeast developed to accentuate the delicate floral aromatics. Upon completion the wine is gently racked and bottled early to retain freshness and vitality. Alcohol 12.2%

Vibrant pale straw/ green colour. Intense nose of citrus and honeysuckle, florals, spice and mineral notes over earthy characters. The palate is refreshing and exhibits great finesse, elegant and focused with juicy, clear cut acidity and profound length of flavour. Mineral, floral and citrus profiles are upfront and personal, making Amisfield a great match with Asian cuisine especially Thai.

The legend of Annie's Lane recounts the tale of Annie Wayman, whose horse and cart got bogged next to one of the area's best vineyards, giving birth to the famous Annie's Lane. Batches of the finest Riesling grapes come out of the most prized vineyards around the Watervale and Polish Hill River areas where the cooler ripening period and extraordinary slate riddled soils combine to create an unmistakable stamp of Clare Valley. The grapes are crushed and drained as only the delicate free run juices are retained. After a period of cold settling to retain freshness and distinct varietal characters, the wine is treated to a cool temperature controlled vinification and prompt bottling after a brief repose.

Pale in color with vibrant green hues. Annie's Lane has an intensely perfumed nose displaying crisp lemon and lime aromas. There are elegant expressions in the heady bouquet, minerals and citrus, chalk, persimmon and spring flowers. Lifted lime characters, a framework of fine fruit and creamy textures, bright tangy flavours show finesse and elegance with balanced crisp acidity to the lingering finish. A refreshing white that offers pleasurable fruit combined with softness and a good pinch of genuine Clare Valley regionality.
Bellarmine Riesling 2011
Pemberton

Vineyard soils are red gravel laterite and vines are trained to vertical shoot positioning. Grapes are harvested in the cool of the night at optimum flavour levels. Vinified from the first free run juices taken after the initial crush and from the light pressing of skins. The latter component contributes greater depth of ripe flavours which suit the slightly sweeter style. Fermented in tank at cool temperatures so that oak is avoided and the natural expression of fruit is optimised. Sudden chilling of the tank occurs when the wine has only about one baume of sugar left to convert into alcohol. This stops the yeast cells and achieves the slightly sweeter palate so very appealing to enthusiasts of complex and engaging Riesling wines.

Pale straw colour. Lime and spice on the bouquet. Aromatic, slightly sweet, yet crisp, elegant white wine. Perfectly palate balanced and with elegant lime flavours. Enjoy this captivating style with moreton bay bugs or WA marron in a mornay cheese sauce.

The true treasures of the region are vines that have lasted the changes and challenges of nature and agriculture. Small pockets of vineyards and orchards dating back as far as the 1860s are still in production today. Crabtree Watervale Riesling 2006
Clare Valley
Crabtree is quite small, very much a boutique operation so far as production is concerned. The annual crush is a mere hundred tonnes, the tiny winery is at full capacity every vintage, and the wines are very limited in production. The cellar door is heritage listed and dates back to 1849 when the Clare Valley was first settled. Adolf Glaetzer was largely responsible for the planting of the vineyards as they exist today. Best known for his fresh fruit and vegetables, his descendants have made the Glaetzer name synonymous with Australian winemaking.

The Crabtree site has been planted to vines for well over a century. Although the original plantings have long since gone, most of the current vines are quite mature. The Riesling are over thirty years of age, very low yielding and are essentially dry grown, although most of the vineyards do have drip irrigation lines to ensure the vines do not suffer from too much water stress. Growing conditions this year were perfect, with good winter and spring rains, a moderately cool summer and a warm concentrated vintage, the quality of the Riesling in particular was excellent. Grapes were treated to a traditional vinification, portions were whole bunch pressed to bring length and finesse without sacrificing flavour. Alcohol 12.5%

Light pale straw with a strong green hue. Exhibiting lovely young green lime characters and lemongrass on the bouquet, lifted citrus and tropical fruits. The aroma is pleasant, a complex fusion of flowers, citrus and fresh apple, which carry through the big flavoursome palate. Expressions of lime and citrus, ginger and minerality. An exquisite wine with good structure, fresh and crisp with outstanding length, lingering and long with mouth watering acidity. The flavour and mouthfeel are perhaps more delicate than those of some of its predecessors – at least, on first impressions. However, the wine builds to a long, strong and clean finish, which lingers long after the wine has left the mouth. A classic Clare Valley Riesling.
