Hutton Vale Farm Riesling
Eden Barossa
Available in cartons of six
The Angas family share a long tradition of viticulture with the craggy chills on the elevated high country of Valley Eden. Colin Angas established Riesling vines to a gently sloping site in the 1960s. Two distinct sections, the top of slope is leaner and more exposed, making tightly structured wines of crisp, vibrant acidity. Vines further down are planted to vigorous red soils, yielding plumper bunches of fruit, redolent of fresh aromatics and citrus zing. Lime cordial, calico and talc, a dash of minerality, refreshing acidity and a lengthy, textured chalky dry finish.

Australian Riesling has come into its own on the frosty, windswept altitudes of Barossa Ranges and warmer, more temperate environs further down the Barossa valley floor. Fruit is harvested from the pick of Barossa vineyards throughout the chill of early morning, bunches are crushed and chilled for settling, only the finest free runs are retained. Anaerobic handling at every stage of the process is essential. Juices are clarified and vinified at low temperatures in controlled fermenters to retain crisp, varietal characters. Batches are racked off gross lees to preserve the restrained lemon fruit profile and taught mineral structure of Barossa Ranges Riesling.

Pale straw green hues. Ripe lime fragrances and dainty florals, enhanced by jasmine spice, chalkiness and talc notes. Bright and zesty lemon citrus fruit flavours, floral freshness on the mid palate, vitality and length, supported by a balanced acid structure and crisp mineral textures, before a very fine, persistent finish. Serve chilled alongside oysters and sashimi.

Jacobs Creek Steingarten Riesling

Steingarten is flagship Australian Riesling, representing the very best on offer from the pick of Jacobs Creek vineyards. In 1962, Orlando Wines established the Steingarten site on a steep east facing rocky outcrop running along the western edge of the Barossa ranges, less than two kilometres from founder Johann Gramp's original property. Named in honour of this iconic vineyard, Steingarten is vinified from a small number of hand selected cool climate Riesling blocks situated in the higher altitude ranges of Eden and Barossa Valleys.

To ensure grapes are harvested at maximum flavour concentration, the ripening is closely monitored with regular tastings by the winemaking team within the vineyard. Fruit is harvested throughout the cool of night as each parcel achieves the most optimum flavour profile and acid balance. Grapes are rapidly transported to the Jacobs Creek wineworks, crushed and chilled. The free run juices are drained and clarified with minimum skin contact, followed by a cold fermentation at 13ºC to 15ºC after inoculation by choice yeasts, which serve to enhance the delicate Riesling flavours. Steingarten is bottled early to retain the precious, inimitable aromas and flavours of a distinguished vineyard. Alcohol 11.0%

One of Australia's most prestigious wine regions, famous for Riesling, yielding harvests of generously flavoured fruit. Lodge Hill vineyard is one of the highest points in Clare Valley. Jim Barry's original intention was to devote the entire Lodge Hill property to Riesling. Soils are brown loam over a layer of clay and slate bedrock that's about 900 million years old and has cracked just off the vertical so that water can drain freely through it. It's a soil that nourishes the vines adequately, but makes them struggle just a bit. Grapes are harvested throughout the cool of night at optimum ripeness, characterized by high natural acidity, intense citrus flavours and floral notes, attributable to the property's higher altitudes.

Crystal straw, green hues. Rich and lifted bouquet, pink grapefruit and citrus lime, a hint of spice reveals its Lodge Hill provenance. The palate is dry and mineral, enhanced by a zingy natural acid backbone, flavours of mandarin, white peach and strawberry at the fore, immense length and intensity of flavour, before a crisp, zesty kabinett style of finish.

Weather conditions permitting, Chromy's closely husbanded vines yield limited harvests of Noble Rot botrytis Cinerea, drying the grapes as they hang on the vine, concentrating natural sugars, developing the most exciting perfumes and divine flavours.

Fruit reception begins with a vibrating hopper that gently shakes the grapes into the destemmer, which has a smooth plastic cage in order not to break any berries. Grapes are gently pressed and the juices are vinified at low temperatures to retain varietal character. Fermentation is arrested at a low alcohol level to achieve a fully integrated wine that retains fresh Riesling character.

Deep golden yellow. Delicate floral and citrus, rich orange peel characters of Botrytis. A long crisp palate of sweet honey, preserved lemon and ripe citrus flavours. Varietal Riesling characters are still apparent and meld with Botrytis flavours to create a crisp style of dessert wine with a lingering taste and refreshing finish.
