Masi Bonacosta Valpolicella Classico DOC
Valpolicella
Available by the dozen
MASI vinifies a modern style of red from an assemblage of traditional Veronese grapes, mostly Corvina with a lesser component of Rondinella and minor portion of Molinara. MASI drinks well with many dishes, from grilled meats to pasta. Bonacosta refers to the area at the foot of the slopes where MASI grow grapes for Amarone. The gentle aspects are endowed with rich top soils, as the vines are rejuvenated by soft valley breezes which stimulate the fruit to develop vital flavours and cozy tannins.

The Masi vineyards in the hills of the historic Valpolicella Classico zone are positioned over red calcareous sediments on basalt soils. Grapes are harvested separately, mid September for the Molinara and Rondinella, end of September for Corvina. Juices are left in contact with skins, sixteen days for the Corvina and ten for the other varietals. Inoculated by select yeasts, the fermentations are carried out under strictly controlled temperatures 25┬░C to 28┬░C for twenty days followed by completion of malolactic. The finished wine is matured in Slavonian oak barrels, a choice component of Corvina is treated to new Allier and smaller Slavonian oak casks, followed by a spell of bottle ageing.

A ruby red colour with violet tinges. Bouquet of violet, roses and mint combined with cherries and spice such as cinnamon and clove. Fresh on the palate, well structured with good weight and an attractive overlay of tannins. Versatile enough for roast or risotto.
Masi Campofiorin Rosso del Veronese IGT
Veneto
Available by the dozen
The exclusive mix of indigenous Veneto grapes, Corvina, Rondinella and Molinara, made to the extravagant Amarone technique, articulating the wanton intensity of the Super Venetian style. Masi were at the very genesis of the commercialization of appassimento, a painstaking process of concentrating the flavours and natural fruit sugars in grapes as they dry under the Veneto sun, achieving a powerful red wine of heightened opulence and amazing richness. Its heady perfumes presage a velvety palate, layered with dulcet dark fruit.

The unique mesoclimes of Soave Classico keep the Garganega and Trebbiano di Soave grapes healthy, ensuring the superlative quality of harvest each and every year. Fruit analysis in the vineyard at vintage confirms an excellent balance of sugars and total acidity. After a soft crushing, a small portion of the grapes are treated to a criomaceration for twenty four hours at 5┬░C. The remaining components are traditionally vinified in fermenters for two or three weeks at 12┬░C to 16┬░C through the action of cultured yeasts. A course of malolactic varies according to the demands of vintage. Most parts are treated to a a few months of unwooded maturation, a minor component is sent for a term in seasoned oak barrel.

Pale straw yellow with green tints. Intense floral nose with scents of wisteria flowers, together with bananas and pear. Strikingly fresh on the plate thanks to good supporting acidity, well balanced with good weight and structure. Dry and attractive on the finish. The classic Italian food wine, good with a wide range of dishes thanks to its attractive and refreshing acidity. Ideal as an aperitif alongside hors d'oeuvres or with Mediterranean flavoured cuisines incorpoating olive oil and vegetables.
