1 - 4 of 4 Wines By Jansz
1
Jansz LD Late Disgorged Vintage 2004
Pipers Brook
Jansz was Tasmania's first wine to be made according to traditional Méthode champenoise, the only specialist on the apple isle, solely devoted to the art of sparkling. Late Disgorge is the extravagant technique of bottle ageing on sediments for an extended period. An exemplary vigilance in the vineyard realizes meagre yields of the most extraordinary quality fruit, to be exactingly crafted into a pinnacle of the wine makers art.

Jansz Vineyard lies in the Tamar Valley at the heart of the Pipers River region in northeastern Tasmania. With a mantle of red basalt soils and cool climate moderated by the proximity of Bass Strait, the vines are ideal for allowing grapes to ripen slowly and develop the lingering acidity essential to produce world class sparkling. Chardonnay and Pinot Noir are hand harvested, separately treated to barrel ferments, lees stirring and malolactic, achieving distinctive creaminess and successive layers of fruit on the palate. Vintage wines of exceptional quality are chosen to be held for at least seven years on yeast lees to develop into the richest, deeply layered, complex sparkling wines. Alcohol 12.5%

Vibrant, deep straw, with very fine bead. Intensely complex sparkling nose, lanolin and brioche dominate along with notes of white peach and ripe lemons, coupled with truffles and honey. The palate is layered and rich, even lush, a fine line of acidity gives the wine wonderful structure and length. Palate shows flavours of poached fruits, spice and zesty, citrus pith. Decrying its age, showing immeasurable length and an exceptional, everlasting finish.

Jansz Tasmania Vintage Cuvée 2007
Pipers Brook
In 1986, Heemskerk was joined by the noble House of Louis Roederer in a pursuit of the definitive Australian sparkling. Louis Roederer shared in the belief that the climate and soils of Tasmania, so similar to those of the great winegrowing appellations in Burgundy and Champagne, were ideal for the production of finely structured Methode traditionelle. The essential Chardonnay characters of citrus and stonefruits, mingle with the rich autolysis of almonds and brioche, to build a rich and creamy, textural weight of fruit on generous the palate.

The Heemskerk Vineyard was established in 1975 at the heart of the Pipers River district, the birthplace of Jansz Tasmania. The diligence of the team that tends the vines is rewarded by parcels of the highest quality fruit. Attention to detail in the vineyard, with crop thinning and disease monitoring, are essential to great winemaking. Every block of the Jansz vineyard is individually harvested by hand and treated to a gentle vinification, batch by batch, before a well considered assemblage. Four years ageing on yeast lees after the secondary fermentation achieves classical yeast complexity in the final wine. Up to half of the components are fermented in aged French oak hogsheads for nine months. Alcohol 12.0%

A vibrant, pale straw with fine mousse. Lifted complex bouquet of oyster shell, white flowers, honeycomb and preserved lemon. The rich, layered nose shows gorgeous yeast ageing, toast, brioche and cream, seaspray and maritime aromas with delicate strawberry notes. A textural wine with mouth watering acidity and layers of flavour. Seaspray and oyster shell with zesty citrus, rose and strawberry in a wine of complexity and balance. Pinot Noir brings rosewater and strawberries to the palate, supporting beautiful Chardonnay flavours of ripe lemon and honeysuckle. Barrel fermentation gives a touch of tannin and wonderful ethereal notes, years of tirage add creaminess and length.
In the northeast corner of Australia's southern island state is a wine region so perfect for creating sparkling wine that it has captured the interest of French Champagne makers

Louis Roederer of Reims shared the belief that the climate of the area was ideal for the production of finely structured methode champenoise and formed a venture with Tasmania's Heemskerk to establish the Jansz operations. With a climate very close to that of Champagne, this region is known simply as Sparkling Tasmania. The Jansz vineyards lie in the Tamar Valley at the heart of Tasmania's Pipers River region.

Waiting for the perfect moment to pick the fruit from the vineyard each year is something that Jansz Tasmania Winemaker Natalie Fryar takes seriously: "You've really got to get to know the fruit you're working with and form a close relationship with the viticulturists and grape growers!" Natalie brings with her a wealth of sparkling wine experience gained at Seppelt's Great Western winery, making some of Australia's most awarded red and white sparkling wines. A winemaker with a passion for turning great fruit into exceptional wine.

The winemaking philosophy is firmly focused on the vineyard with a great deal of time spent walking the rows looking at the vines and tasting the grapes through the various stages of ripeness. It's the only way to get a real feel for the fruit and, therefore, the resulting wine. "This is the real thing. Top quality Pinot Noir made into sparkling wine could only come from this part of Tasmania. Natalie Fryar has an obsession with detail, and perfection is clear to see, smell and taste in this wine. Not content with making a mind-blowing ‘02 rosé’, she encourages a wider audience with a cracking Jansz Premium Rose NV, too!" -Taste Food and Wine

"I say: the Apple Isle is the finest site for quality sparkling-wine grapes outside Champagne itself. A big call, you think? Certainly one that might put a few other regions offside. But I stand by it, and this is one of the wines that's helping me keep my feet. Jansz standard NV is a perennial favourite too, but this '02 Premium is one very classy bottle!" -Ken Gargett

“A familiar name at the top of the game is Jansz, surprisingly the only Tasmanian winery devoted solely to sparkling wine. Its Tasmania Rosé 2005 is aromatic with upfront flavours and a crisp finish. The Tasmania Cuvée 2004 is a complex and well-balanced sparkler with lingering hazelnut and nectarine flavours. Best of all is the Tasmania Late Disgorged Cuvée 2001. Seven years on lees have made this wonderfully complex with spice and citrus notes!" -Courier-Mail
