Reillys Barking Mad Cabernet Sauvignon 2009
Clare Valley
Available by the case dozen only
The Reilly's philosophy is to produce low volumes of characterful, hand made wines. Clare Valley Cabernet is picked off closely husbanded vineyards at optimal ripeness to be given a good old fashioned vinification and hand plunging in open vats. The moniker may sound a bit bonkers but the Barking Mads are extremely well made wines, very enjoyable in their early years, they offer the quality of fruit and vigor of tannin to richly reward those with patience, but why wait? Enjoy today alongside grilled meats, osso bucco or veal and tomato ragu.

Clare Valley lies just over 100km north of Adelaide, one of the oldest wine regions in Australia. Hugh Reilly established his homestead here in 1856, it is still headquarters to Reilly Wines. Cabernet Sauvignon is sourced from splendid, dry grown blocks on the St Clare Vineyard at Leasingham, fasidiously cropped to a lean 2.0T/acre. Terroir and climes are ideal, long hot summer days and cool nights serve to fully ripen the grapes while the skins develop fine tannins. Grapes are hand picked, inoculated to AWRI 796 yeasts and treated to a traditional vinification in open fermenters for ten days. The completed wine is matured eighteen months in a selection of fine French oak hogsheads. Alcohol 14.5%

Bright scarlet red. Rich aromas of blackcurrants and cherry. The palate shows juicy dark fruits with a hint of vanilla followed by mints and dark chocolate. Rich sweet summer fruit flavours, overtones of sweet oak and a full mouthfeel which lingers effortlessly. Velvety textures are followed by generous tannins on a lingering finish.
Reillys Barking Mad Sauvignon Blanc 2012
Adelaide Hills
Available by the case dozen only
A frivolously labelled Sauvignon Blanc from an otherwise serious winery, Barking Mad has already created quite a name and following for itself. Designed to bring the sanity back into one's life, parcels of crisply flavoured grapes are sourced from cool climate, low yielding vines in Adelaide Hills. But Barking Mad? Some say it was inspired by Tessa the vineyard hound. Some claim it's about the winemaker's demeanour. Others suggest it relates to the price point for such a high quality wine. Whatever the reason we know you will enjoy Barking Mad.

Reillys know about quality fruit. When appropriating parcels of stylish Adelaide Hills Sauvignon Blanc, they ensure the grapes come from the most splendid, low yielding vineyards, fasidiously cropped to a lean 2.0T/acre and planted to the cooler elevated, slow ripening altitudes. Vines are closely husbanded and mature to an average age of ten years. Grapes are either hand picked or harvested throughout the cool of night, to capture distinctive regional fruit characters and bracing acidity. Following the press and a cold settle, the purest, exclusively free run juices are inoculated and treated to a brisk, temperature controlled vinification before an early bottling to retain vitality and freshness.

Light pale, straw gold with lime hues. Nose of cut grass, stonefruit and citrus, persimmons and snow pea. Fresh, crisp and herbaceous, persistence of gooseberry characters and ripe tropical fruit flavours, a subtle hint of spice rounds out the palate, which is perfectly balanced and finishes dry. Barking Mad is best enjoyed slightly chilled.

Dry Lands is vinified from parcels of choice Cabernet Sauvignon grapes grown to the elite and unirrigated Smyth Block at Leasingham. The superlative vines are forty five years of age, closely cropped to yield a scant 2.0T/acre, whereupon the grapes are hand picked to the most optimal levels of Baume. The fruit is crushed and fermented in open vats, prolonging the contact of skins and juices. The fermented wine is then basket pressed and treated to an extravagant twenty two months of maturation in a selection of the finest French oak hogsheads. Alcohol 15.0%

Reillys Old Bushvine Grenache 2007
Clare Valley
Gratuitously Grenache driven, delicately open fermented and gently basket pressed, vinified exclusively from fruit grown to vines planted in 1919 by a veteran who'd been given the land as part of an ANZAC resettlement scheme. Being bushvines, they grow low to the ground and are untrellissed. Grapes are all hand picked as modern harvesters cannot collect the fruit.

Reillys Shiraz 2010
Clare Valley
Available by the case dozen only
Reilly's are a highly esteemed Clare Valley operation with a history that dates back to pioneering times. While it's not quite the complete limerick, there once was a man named Reilly, who cobbled and made wine on the sly. His descendants still own and operate the grounds of his original homestead, initially treading grapes and bottling fairly small amounts for family and friends. The quality of the family Ardill's limited editions created it's own demand and Reilly Wines was born. Clare Valley is known for it's rich but soft, warming Shiraz, and Reilly's do Shiraz best.

In 1856 an Irish cobler by the name of Hugh Reilly arrived at the tiny township of Mintaro in the Clare Valley

Over the next 10 years, Hugh converted the stone barn that had been his home into a cottage. Reilly's Cottage served as the local Cobbler's Shop in the centre of the bustling town, which had boomed with the discovery of slate in the area. Almost 140 years later, the cottage has been restored to its former glory by distant relatives of Hugh, the Ardill family, and once again it is a hive of activity, and home to Reilly's Wines.

Reillys

In 1993, Reillys started from humble beginnings where the first vintages of wines were processed on the front porch of the Cottage. What started as a passionate hobby for Chief Winemaker Justin Ardill soon became a thriving business due to his commitment to consistently produce premium quality wines. The winery has steadily grown over the years, quickly outstripping the capacity of the cottage, and production was moved to a state-of-the-art facility in nearby Leasingham in 2000.

The Clare Valley is famed for its Rieslings, Shiraz and Cabernets - what differentiates the Clare from many other Australian wine regions are the dry, hot summer days and cool, crisp nights which contribute to the intensity of the flavours in Clare Valley fruit. Reillys vineyards, located in the Leasingham and Watervale subregions of the Clare Valley are non-irrigated, depending solely on rainfall. They yield limited quantities of small, delicious berries which are hand picked to ensure only the premium fruit is selected to go into our winemaking process.

The Reilly's Wines philosophy is to produce low volumes of premium, hand-made wines from this unique fruit. Reillys wines are very enjoyable in their early years and will richly reward those with patience, showing their best with 5-10 years maturation in the bottle.

The fruit is crushed at the Leasingham facility and fermented in open vats, prolonging contact of skins and juice. The fermented wine is then basket-pressed. This is a slow process providing last pressings which contribute to creating fine wines of intense colour and flavour. Reillys red wines are then stored in new, premium quality French and American oak hogsheads for one to two years.

Reilly's Cottage is now the winery's Cellar Door where visitors can sample crisp, clean Rieslings and big, bold reds. Adjacent to the cellar door tasting area, there is Reilly's Restaurant serving Northern Italian influenced cuisine. Reilly's also offer accommodation at Reilly's Country Retreat, just behind the cellar door. Reillys wines have won many awards, including trophies and gold, silver and bronze medals at major wine shows. Reillys have also received critical acclaim from prominent wine writers and publications including James Halliday, Jeremy Oliver, Robert Parker and Winestate.
