A selection of the finest barrels, Vincent is crafted from Shiraz picked off vines up to forty years of age, very close to Kangarilla Road and the Clarendon Hills, specifically Bays 3 and 4, planted to the elite Bakers Gully site in McLaren Vale, which yields a scant tonne per acre. Vincent is a richly flavoured wine, it begins with a harvest of exceptional quality Shiraz, treated to rigorous selection and an extended maturation. The most stringent standards are applied, the top barrels of vintage, crafted to reflect truth in regionality and pure varietal expression.

Fruit is inoculated and vinified in traditional fermenters, followed by two years maturation in a selection of new and seasoned, exclusively French oak hogsheads. A mere few hundred dozen are produced annually. Decant before service to remove harmless crust.

Deep red colour, purple hues. Concentrated dark cherries, soft leather and shoe polish, all in a very good way, smoky, slightly charry oak. Coffee beans, chocolates and leather, cigar leaf notes over soft tannins, structured with refined acidity and exquisite balance. Dry finish and excellent length, an outstanding expression of McLaren Vale which lives and breathes to be mated alongside fine cuisine.

A vineyard with a long and proud history, closely connected to Krondorf and Grant Burge, Tapestry is at the very heart of McLaren Vale. A pure Grenache wine, crafted from the fruit of some wonderful old sites, hand made in the traditional small batch way. This is Thistledown Grenache No1. Grapes are picked off a number of blocks in the Riverland and McLaren Vale, venerable old vineyards and choice parcels of dry grown bush vine fruit. All are separately vinified in small batches through the action of wild ferments. Whole bunch inclusions and larger format oak achieve a beautifully layered, textural palate, lead by its strawberry and wild spice perfumes, hedonistically bottled unfiltered and unfined.

At the Seaview end of Chapel Hill Road, a perfunctory passerine perched her pincers astride a pair of power lines and set herself ablaze. Down she went amongst the dry grown branches of an old Grenache vineyard, setting the valuable veterans alight. The scorched site eventually became part of the Thistledown portfolio, its wizzened old vines make an alluringly perfumed wine that's evocative of florals, petals and pretty Pinot freshness. Cranberries, spices and ripe wild cherry combine with silken textures to define a beautifully elegant Grenache wine.

Thistledown make Grenache with a view to maximising purity of expression, the fruit must be articulate, the finished wine textural and refined. Grenache is collated from some of the finest bush vines in McLaren Vale, an auspicious tally of sites planted to rich mineral soils. Grapes are all hand picked, a third of the harvest is retained as whole bunches. A natural wild yeast ferment is treated to frequent hand plunges until complete dryness. Ten months in well seasoned oak hogsheads achieves a delicious Grenache wine, perfumed, velvet textured and beguiling.

From three old, dry grown bush blocks at Blewitt Springs, planted to a benignant terroir of deep ironstone sands. Parcels are separately picked at ideal ripeness, crushed and treated to a measure of whole bunch or wild yeast ferments, regularly hand plunged in a mix of concrete vats and open vessels, followed by a course of age in seasoned oak puncheons. So very redolent of wild cherry, violets, rosemary and spice, its polished, multi layered palate, lined of loquacious, liquorice tanins, textural towards a lengthy aromatic finish.

After the crushing of grapes and completion of ferments, most red wines are filled to oak, it is here that the ageing barrels must be topped up from time to time, as a portion of the stocks evaporate into thin air. It's known in winemaking parlance as angel's share. A wine of great personality, personable and charismatic, the very best of McLaren Vale in every way, Angels Share articulates the more vivaciously ripe and upfront style of Aussie Shiraz.

Two Hands concentrate their efforts on sourcing the best fruit from the finest Shiraz vineyards in Australia, working closely with the growers. Grapes are crushed into large, open top fermenters. During the peak of activity, batches receive regular pumpovers thrice daily for the extraction of colour, flavour and tannin. After sixteen days on skins, the free runs are drained off, skins are pressed and returned. After a day's settling the wine is racked to barrel for malolactic. Matured twelve months in a selection of seasoned and new French and American oak puncheons and hogsheads. Angel's Share is bottled without fining or filtration.

Deep, concentrated black with purple rim. Big McLaren Vale nose of ripe fruits, blackcurrants and cherry notes, freshly ground coffee, dark chocolates and mint. A layered palate, fresh mouthfeel, the tannins are quite firm, balanced by good weight of fleshy fruit. The mid palate shows terrific focus, the finish balanced by impeccable tannin and acid structure, resolving on a note of excellence, precision and persistence.

$6699each $803DOZEN EACH DOZEN The Two Hands winemaking team can demonstrate an innate capacity to capture the terroir of each vineyard and preserve the vital characteritics in every wine. A number of individual vineyard parcels are crushed into a mix of three and five, seven and ten tonnes open top vessels. Ferments are pumped over thrice daily throughout the peak of activity to extract optimal colour, flavours and tannin. Batches are pressed, the free runs and pressings are all returned and racked to barrel for completion of malolactic. Components are matured eighteen months in a combination of seasoned and new French oak puncheons and hogsheads. All parts are kept separate and assembled just prior to bottling.

Deep dark red. Nose of spiced plum, blueberry pie with hits of musk stick, warm vanilla and pain grille. Full bodied palate with lashings of spices and plums, blueberry jam and milk chocolate. Tannins are round, bold and chewy then tighten through the finish. Hedonistic in style with complexing notes of mocha coffee beans, vanilla pod and clove. Incredibly long and persistant through the finish.

From some of the oldest Grenache vines in McLaren Vale, picked by hand at maximal ripeness, gently crushed and destemmed into open fermenters, a portion of whole bunches are included for complexity. A fortnight of ferments are hand plunged and pumped over for optimal extractions. Batches are pressed for malolactic and filled to seasoned French oak puncheons for nine months maturation. Heady and lifted, liqueur cherry and wild raspberry, asian spice, ginger, red licorice and rose petal, all framed by lithe, sandy tannins, a generous, graceful Grenache.
