RSW is an acronym for Robert Strangways Wigley. He learned his craft during a tenure at Bankside under the tutelage of Thomas Hardy, who claimed to have never known anyone that worked harder than Wigley. RSW's wild pranks as a young man made him somewhat of an embarrassment to his family. In 1893 he was pointedly sent to rusticate in McLaren Vale where he undertook the planting of vines in 1894. By the turn of the century he was proprietor of the most eminent winemaking operation in the district, with a hundred acres under vine.

Parcels are picked from vineyards at Blewitt Springs, McLaren Vale and McLaren Flat in small batches and cold soaked for three days to extract maximum colour without the presence of alcohol. Each ferment is assessed twice daily to determine the cap management program, before basket pressing at the first sign of tannin hardness. Batches are transferred to an individual barrel selection, depending on vineyard block, before completing malolactic, rack and returned every four months. Matured nineteen months in a mix of seasoned and new French oak puncheons and barriques.

Deep plum colour with crimson rim. Bright plums, blueberries and raspberry fruits fill the nose, aniseed, leather and dark bitter chocolate add further complexity. The palate displays vibrant rich plum and raspberry fruits infused with bitter chocolate and aniseed that fill the mouth. The dense core of fruit is balanced by fine cedary oak and textural tannins providing a wine of superb line and splendid length, wonderful power, balance and style.

A stately accord of the most superior Margaret River fruit, offering great concentration while displaying an exemplary integration of tannins and oak. Woodlands Vineayard is bequeathed with plantings of elite Cabernet vines established 1973. Whilst much of their resplendent fruit finds its way into some of the better known estate flaghips of Margaret River, the pick of the crop is kept back and vinified under the Woodlands label. An assemblage of the best barrels Merlot and Malbec around a backbone of the finest Margaret River Cabernet Sauvignon.

$6899each $827DOZEN EACH DOZEN Woodlands Margaret is sourced entirely from Woodlands Vineyard, the Cabernet Sauvignon comes from a south slope which wraps around a ninety degree radius from east to north. Vines receive a great deal of direct sunlight from morning to mid afternoon. Merlot and Malbec are grown to a west facing slope of deep loam soils which receives the most direct afternoon sunlight and yields intensely flavoured berries. Grapes are hand picked, sorted and destemmed, crushed into small closed fermenters, pumped over four times daily. Upon completion, the Cabernet is soaked for a month on skins. Following malolactic, Woodlands is filled to a high proportion of new French oak barrels for eighteen months maturation.

Bright crimson colour. Blackcurrant, black olive, mulberries and cassis nose, seasoned by notes of fine new oak. August, concentrated and dense, ripe red and dark berry fruits on a succulent middle palate, lined with the plushest tannins. Characteristic of the power and charm which define Woodlands Margaret Cabernet. The finish is long and intense yet silky smooth.

Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec and Franc. Woodlands have observed that some parcels of their vineyard produce aromatic ferments, while others are more structured. The finest pickings are treated to small open fermenters enhancing aromatics. Parcels showing greater structure are vinified in small closed fermenters. The best of both worlds, a Cabernet that retains vibrant aromatic fruit whilst gaining structure and adding weight. After a year in exclusively new French oak, the best barrels of vintage are determined and set aside for the final assemblage.

$17599each $2111DOZEN EACH DOZEN Fruit is sourced from the original estate plantings of Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon and Franc, on a south facing, sandy loam over gravel clay slope. These small plots receive the greatest number of sunlight hours at Woodlands, the east west orientation of vines ensures a slow ripening, the last parcels to be harvested each year. Fruit is picked late March to early April, destemmed and passed over a vibrating sorting table, crushed and vinified in small closed fermenters, followed by a term of maceration on skins before being pressed for malolactic. Upon completion, batches are transferred to new French medium toast barrels for nineteen months maturation.

Deep crimson colour. The nose reveals cassis and mulberry, blackcurrant, violet and toasty French oak. The palate shows deep brooding characters of blackberry, mulberry and briar. A very focused wine, with an array of rich fruit flavours and long grained tannins.

Named after a set of medieval leg pillories which remain preserved as a museum piece in Oxfordshire. The team at Woodstock consider themselves lucky to be caring for some of the oldest McLaren Vale vines. Fruit for inclusion into The Stocks is sourced from thirty one rows of ancient McLaren Vale vines, planted circa 1900 on a sandy north slope at the Woodstock property, only the most exceptional barrels of aged Shiraz are selected. The palate is plush with an intensity and complexity of flavour that will continue to evolve and mellow in the glass.

The vineyard is dry grown and yields are deliberately kept low, achieving harvests of true intensity and concentration of flavour. Shiraz is picked throughout the cool of night to preserve character and complexity. Grapes are crushed and cold soaked for a day in small open fermenters, inoculated, vinified over the course of a week and hand plunged twice daily. Batches are transferred to a mix of French and American oak barrels for completion of ferments and a term of maturation. Only the finest are selected for inclusion into The Stocks. Alcohol 15.5%

Deep and dark, indigo hues. Traces of cigar box, choc mint, meaty and earthy tones on the bouquet. The palate is plush and complex, loaded with a myriad of dark berries and spice. Good intensity of flavour and savoury tannins in balance, ripe, sweet fruit, a complex chocolate berry heart, lovely structure, good middle palate richness which lingers. A Shiraz of splendid fruit concentration, yet a touch elegant, Woodstock recommend thirty minutes breathing followed by decanting.

Established by John Riddoch in 1891, Wynns now retain some marvelous old vineyards. With each harvest, Wynns select a single distinguished site to bottle as a superior vintage release. Glengyle was planted in 1969 and is traditionally one of the first Coonawarra vineyards to ripen. Matured eighteen months in a selection of French oak barriques and hogsheads, beautifully evolved after years of bottle age under the Wynn estate cellars, Glengyle's silky tannins, precision and length, support a concentrated palate of animate black currants flavours, black cherry and cassis.

Intense red with a distinctive black core. Intriguing notes of dark cherry, dried mints and sage to the bouquet, finely integrated, spicy vanilla oak notes. Excellent Langtons Classification. John Riddoch is made in small quantities from the best fruit grown to the estate's extensive plantings of Cabernet Sauvignon. Conceived as a flagship wine for the Wynns portfolio, it carries the name of the Coonawarra's founding father into the 21st century. Arguably richer and more concentrated than any other Coonawarra, made only in years when Cabernet Sauvignon of extraordinarily high quality is available, less than one per cent of the most superior estate grown grapes are destined for inclusion into John Riddoch.

Small fermenters, ranging in size from two to ten tonnes, enable the team to keep small vineyard parcels separate in a way that was just not possible before. Access to better quality oak has also made an influence. John Riddoch is a regional flagship from older blocks planted on their own roots in the 1960s and 1970s, cropped at a very low one or two tonnes per acre. Fermentations take place immediately after crushing over a period of five to eight days, after which the wine is pressed off at dryness, followed by fifteen months maturation in a balance of new and seasoned French oak barriques.

Dense, dark red colour with youthful purple hues. John Riddoch broods in the glass before opening up to dark cherry, mint and rich chocolate notes. A solid but stylish palate with the classic ripe Cabernet flavours of black cherries, dark forest fruits and subtle violets. Framing, fine, structural tannins are matched by rich dark, linear fruit. Subtle, fragrant French oak enhances the texture and lingers well after the last mouthful. Long and solid, a memorable experience immediately upon release, yet renowned for it's amazing cellaring potential.

The first Michael, labelled as Hermitage, was a special edition from the 1955 vintage, made after David Wynn noticed the outstanding quality of wine within two particular barrels, he ordered they be bottled separately. Michael vintage 1955 is an industry legend, good bottles of the original release still represent a memorable tasting experience. A regal Shiraz wine from nothing but the very finest Coonawarra vineyards, only made in years when fruit is of extraordinarily high quality.

V & A Lane is a long, straight road that dissects Coonawarra's famous Terra rossa strip at its midpoint. Originally surveyed in the late 1840s, the lane divides the original electorates of Victoria and Albert. Traditionally it has been used as a landmark to separate northern and southern vineyards in Coonawarra, a prestigious and highly sought locality for growing exceptional Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz. The precious fruit from these vineyards exhibits a signature density and richness, the defining characteristic of this location along the Coonawarra strip.

In 1951 Melbourne merchants Samuel and David Wynn purchased Riddoch's original vineyards and winery, renaming the property Wynns Coonawarra Estate. The Wynns family recognised the intrinsic qualities of Coonawarra wines, their richness and intensity of fruit character, and set out to build an independent identity for the region. They created the famous label that features John Riddoch's gabled winery, one of Australia's most recognizable buildings. An essentially Cabernet wine with a third of Shiraz, V & A Lane spent sixteen months in a combination of new and seasoned French and American oak barrels.
