61 - 72 of 269 Grenache
Cirillo The Vincent Grenache
Barossa
Available by the dozen
Light Pass was one of the first Barossa precincts to be planted to vine. A single Grenache vineyard remains from earliest settlement, still yielding the most precious fruit, it is likely the oldest productive planting of Grenache in the world. Marco Cirillo personally manages each and every vine on this invaluable block, his specialty is Grenache and he maintains a close watch over his priceless old plantings. Much of what he picks off the vine is destined for the mighty Torbreck, he retains a small amount from each vintage to release under his own label.

Marco Cirillo can trace a family tradition of winemaking which dates back centuries. He turned his skills of viticulture to a seminal Barossa site in the 1970s and dedicated his life to old vines Grenache. A second vineyard, established in the 1930s and grown to the elevated aspects of Rowland Flats, is the source of fruit for The Vincent Grenache. Each and every one of the eighty year old vines is familiar to Cirillo, cared and pruned by hand, they yield small harvests of Grenache, almost without peer. Grapes are all hand picked and placed into vessels as whole berries for a traditional open fermentation. Upon completion, batches are filled to a collection of large, ancient oak Foudres for malolactic and a year's maturation.

Bright scarlet colour. Vibrant red cherry and black berry aromas, turkish delight notes, supple dusty vanilla, spiced plum and char. A generous, fleshy palate of purple fruit flavours, bramble and tar, a supple textural mouthfeel, the savouryness of olive and vinous bay leaf notes. Lifted fruit characters and splendid length, an exquisite lingering finish.

Clos Figueras Font de la Figuera
Priorat
Available in cartons of three
Julius Caesar was born a Spaniard, he probably enjoyed the wines of Priorat at a time when ancient Romans built the very terraces which now yield Font de la Figuera. This majestic viticultural paradise was devastated by phylloxera and abondoned by agricuturalists in the nineteenth century. Rediscovered by fine wine enthusiasts and re established to productive vineyards in the 1980s, it delivers vintages of the most exquisite Grenache blends in the world. Layered with licorice and the seasoning of Mediterranean spice, a penetrating wine, seamless, stately and refined.

Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Conde de Valdemar pioneered modernity in the Rioja region's wines. The Coudoulet property remains an important part of Beaucastel estate, a salubrious vineyard of thirty hectares, some eighty years of age, grown to diluvial alpine deposits containing rolled pebbles, over a former molasse sea bed of the miocene epoch. Grenache, Mourvedre, Syrah and Cinsault grapes are selectively hand picked and sorted at the wineworks. Fruit is macerated in enamel tiled vats twelve days before the free run juices are taken off and musts are treated to a light pneumatic pressing. Varietal components are separately vinified and assembled after a course of malolactic, followed by maturation in large, seasoned French oak foudres for six months before a light egg white fining.

Dark garnet red colour. Perfumed nose of piquant bramble fruits, seasoned by overtones of pepper, cinnamon and maghreb spice. The palate is highly elegant, densely packed but lithe with black cherry, minerals and cracked pepper, supported by soft tannins, silken textures and refined acidity.
