$34999each $4199DOZEN EACH DOZEN The Warre's winemaking team knew that a small vintage was at hand for growing season 2000 but had not anticipated quite how small it would be, at Cavadinha, the lowest yields in living memory. The old mixed plantings, aged fifty to fifty five years, produced an average of only 420 grams per vine. This unprecedented low yield was due to the appalling weather during flowering and without a doubt, contributed to the marvellous concentration of the wines in vintage 2000. The small size of the berries, crushed by foot treading in granite lagares, produced wines of outstanding quality and intensity, exuding expressive Esteva characters.

Very dark colour, concentrated inky black. Lovely fresh aromas of violets. Layer and layer of ripe blackberry fruit, intensely rich and full bodied. Sweetness and tannins bind this wine together to form a perfect harmonious structure.

The complexity, elegance and balance of Warre's Vintage Ports result from the blending of wines from three great quintas. Quinta da Cavadinha in the Pinhão Valley which runs north of the Douro, Quinta do Retiro in the Rio Torto Valley to the south, just downriver from Pinhão, and since 2006 the Quinta da Telhada in the Douro Superior, just twenty fivre kilometres from the border with Spain. The blend is rounded out by vineyards clustered around Cavadinha, namely Quinta do Alvito, Quinta das Andorinhas and Quinta das Netas.

$18999each $2279DOZEN EACH DOZEN All three vineyards have a long history of supplying Warre's, and are now privately owned by members of the Symington family who continue that tradition. Cavadinha is unique in that its vineyards range from 150 metres by the Pinhão River, to as high as 400 metres. The family's own vineyards are near the upper end of Cavadinha and continue up to 500 metres. This variation in location and altitude produces a wonderfully balanced wine as it combines grapes from the intense heat of the lower altitude and Douro Superior vineyards with grapes from a much cooler maturity cycle higher up in the Pinhão Valley.

Inky and concentrated, an opaqueness from the famous old vines of Retiro Antigo. This concentration combines perfectly with the freshness imparted by the wines from the higher lying Cavadinha vineyards to produce lovely fresh flavours of blackberry fruit. A wine of enormous elegance, combining vibrant lifted fruit with power and long lasting flavours. The wine was much enhanced by the exuberance of the Telhada Touriga Franca grapes.

Warrior is the oldest marque of Port, having been shipped continuously since the 1750s. The name Warrior was branded on the casks of Warre's finest Reserve Ports since the earliest days of the firm. The traditional style has been maintained over the years and it is today a classic full bodied fortified wine with wonderful richness and balance. Warrior is drawn from Quinta da Cavadinha and Quinta do Retiro Antigo, Warre's finest quintas in the Pinhão and Rio Torto valleys, vineyards which have long been the source of fruit for Warre's Vintage Ports.

Barrels of particularly rich and fruity Reserve Port are set aside for maturation under the lodges at Vila Nova de Gaia. Dark red colour. Seductive rich perfume of ripe plums and cherry. Complex palate with an excellent structure and long lingering finish. Delicious served at the end of a meal, with rich, nutty or chocolate desserts, as well as strong cheeses. Boodjidup Vineyard Viognier, the old growers trick of slicing a cane of bunches off the vine and setting the whole branch aside to dry and shrivel as the berries become engorged with flavour. The deliciously desiccated grapes are crushed and cold soaked to rehydrate the raisined fruit, pressed and sent for a month of vinification at a cool 15°C. Ferments are arrested to retain all the moreish sweetness and extraordinary complexity of cane cut Viognier. Apricot nectars, mango and lychee, her mouth watering lemon honey drop juicyness persists through to a wickedly flavourful finish.

Crafted entirely from parcels of the red and pink Muscat, a Petite Grain varietal which develops extraordinary richness if grown to grand old vineyards in Rutherglen. The base wines are regularly racked and topped off as the angels take their share, to perpetuate the marvelous complexity of the style from year to year. Museum Reserve is fortified with neutral grape spirit after a brief fermentation, to encourage the evolution of rich raisined fruit characters in the finished wine. A joy alongside cheeses, chocolates and coffee, fruits and desserts.

$2299each $275DOZEN EACH DOZEN Yalumba have been making this very style of wine since the 1850s and retain much of the nation's most precious stocks. The old and mature, dry grown vineyards of Rutherglen are ideally suited for producing harvests of the richest fruit. The grapes ripen with considerable raisining of the berries, regularly achieving over twenty degrees of baume. After many years of maturation, a selection of older and younger wines are judiciously assembled to produce a complexity and balance of fruit and aged rancio characters. An average of seven years maturation in casks of seasoned French oak imparts wonderful liqueured fruit sweetness in the final wine.

Deep amber to tawny colour. The classic perfumed aromas of Muscat grapes, rose petal and rancio, licorice and chocolates, tobacco leaf, ginger and orange peel. Soft, luscious textures, richly flavoured, displaying a balance of freshness and aged richness. The finish is full and edifying, raisined friuts and spice lingering long on the aftertaste.
