Pressing Matters R139 is the lusciously sweet style of late picked Riesling, finished to 139 grams residual sugar, ideal for full flavoured consomme or the richest desserts.

From a single parcel of late ripened Pinot Gris, planted to a steep half hectare block on Prophet's Home Vineyard. The recipe for making Vin de Paille dates back to 800BC, grapes are selectively hand picked onto racks and dried in the loft of a barn for several weeks, slowly whole bunch pressed and treated to thirteen months of ferment through the action of wild indigenous yeasts. A beguilingly layered and complex wine of extraordinary freshness and imposing structure, only sixty dozen bottles are made with each vintage.

Port was the Duke of Wellington's favourite tipple. He indulged in a glass or two each night before retiring, including the evening before famous battles. Many of Wellington's officers were from the Oporto family of Port producers, they fought alongside Wellington at almost every engagement against Napoleon during the Peninsular war. Their descendants are still in the industry, the Symingtons now operate the most prestigious marques in Vintage Port. Quinta do Vesuvio have amassed a breathtaking number of awards at prestigious international competitions.

Located in the illustrious arid flatlands of Douro Superior, Quinta do Vesuvio is a legendary property, identified as far back as the 16th Century. In the 19th Century under Dona Antonia Ferreira, the wines of Vesuvio wines gained a peerless reputation for quality and excellence. The only style made from this Quinta is Vintage Port, only in years that meet the most stringent quality requirements. Vintage 1994 was assembled in the spring of 1996, fewer than 3,000 cases were released, bottled exclusively at the Quinta.

Dark inky colour. The nose exhibits an outstanding concentration of floral and ripe fruit aromas with hints of bitter chocolate. The palate shows massive structure and offers superb grip, endowed by distinctive berry fruit flavours and purple olive/rancio characters. The immense concentration of flavours continues over a long, long finish.

The Symington family, owners operators of the prestigious Warres, Cockburn and Dow brands, acquired Quinta do Vesuvio in 1989, re planting and expanding the vineyards to over a hundred forty hectares. The property is fundamentally north facing, with seven hills, seven valleys and altitudes from 130 to 530 metres. Visitors to the historic Vesuvio granite lagares, during the time of treading at vintage, are always impressed by the extraordinary floral fragrances of the fermenting musts. Quinta do Vesuvio is the most magnificent estate of all Douro Valley. Located in the beautiful and austere Upper Douro, its history dates back to the 16th century. Vesuvio is one of the few estates in Douro which makes wines according to the traditional treading method in granite lagares, vinified and finished exclusively as a single Vintage Port.
