Thomas Hardy crafted his first dual region wine in 1865, assembling harvests from the Adelaide Plains with those of southern districts. Hardy believed that an alchemy of fruit with different characteristics would complement and enhance the integrity of the assembled wine. So began Hardys rich heritage, as with each new blend, a unique code was created starting from A001. Chardonnay is sourced from superior vineyards which can yield the outstanding quality of fruit that's essential for the HRB moniker.

From vines up to twenty years of age or more, grown to various soil types, sharing a kinship of auspiciously maritime climes. Fruit is hand picked and whole bunch pressed, a proportion is filled directly to a selection of new and prior use French oak barriques for a course of rich barrel ferments. The balance is filled to controlled fermenters, preserving the freshness of fruit. Some parcels are treated to a term of malolactic which softens the palate. HRB is matured for several months in a selection of French oak barrels, ageing on sedimentery yeast lees throughout a course of weekly stirrings battonage.

Pale yellow with green hues. Bright fruit aromas of lemon, nectarine and melon interplay, subtle French oak and notes of baking brioche. Intense yet restrained, the palate displays lively fruit characters of lemon rind and nectarine. Fine acid provides vibrancy and persistence with subtle French oak adding structure and a hint of sweetness to a rich, soft and complex palate. Enjoy with corn fed chicken and tarragon bearnaise.

Block 1 is a steep gravelly slope of old, dry grown Semillon Sauvignon vines, amongst the first ever planted in Margaret River, yielding a very small crop of the most articulate Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc with a depth of flavour and intensity rarely seen. Only the purest free run juice are treated to a rich course of barrel ferments in seasoned French oak, followed by a term of eight months maturation. Lemony mineral, mesmerizingly complex with underlying toastyness, an amazing palate extension of gooseberries and lychee lingering to a clean ultra dry finish.

Established 1975 to Gin Gin Mendoza clone Chardonnay, Block 6 is a steep south facing slope of reduced sunlight in the heart of Wilyabrup Valley. The precious dry grown vines yield a meagre harvest of distinctive, refined minerality. The purest free run juices are treated to vinification in a high proportion of French oak barriques and ten months maturation. Pears and apple dominate, suppleness of struck match, the savouryness of flint, the intense palate depth of old vines fruit contributes penetrating, mouth filling flavours and texturally refined, satin richness.

Hay Shed Hill Vineyard was planted to vine in 1973, right at the heart of the acclaimed Willyabrup triangle at Margaret River, during the early pioneer days of local viticulture. Hay Shed Hill can now boast of fully mature vines, yielding small amounts of noble varietal grapes which have established the reputation of Margaret River as a world class winegrowing region. Vinified to world's best practice, the Chardonnay of Hay Shed is characterful and charming, resonating with the essence of a truly wonderful site.

$2999each $359DOZEN EACH DOZEN A product of exclusively free run juices from the old vine Gin Gin clone Chardonnay , the very highest in quality with the most intense fruit expression and the lowest in undesirable phenolic skin characters. Clear juices are fermented in French oak barriques, a third of which are new, the balance being one, two and three years old. Following vinification, the wine is matured in the same barriques for a further ten months. No lees stirring or malolactic fermentation is employed, the intent being to preserve and to retain freshness and purity of fruit. The objective is to construct a wine which expresses the character of a superb vineyard within an elegant and restrained style which drinks vibrantly and fresh.

Fresh green tinges within a pale straw colour. Aromas of cut pear and honey dew melon with some zesty citric notes. A very clean nose exhibiting clarity and definition of primary fruit without any overt wood or buttery characters. Fresh and lively with crisp acidity complementing vibrant flavours of stonefruit, melons and citrus. A restrained style offering an extended palate and identifiable Margaret River regionality, finishing clean and bright.

Heggies is an exquisite, though difficult to manage, single vineyard site. The undulating slopes, high in Valley Eden, prevent frosts from settling, such that the unique terroir is encouraged to produce remarkable wines. Fruit is harvested in small, hard won lots, the narrower sections and rows demand to be picked exclusively by hand. A scrupulous sorting is essential, Botrytis affects each bunch of grapes in different ways. The integrity of each parcel is maintained throughout the vinification, ensuring that almost every planting is afforded the opportunity to have a say in the final wine.

Closely planted Burgundian clones form the backbone of the Heggies style and create an extremely low yielding viticultural environment which requires careful management but rewards with an outstanding quality of fruit. Heggies could be called struggle country, the vines are shy bearing within an extreme environment, for grapes of intense flavour. There are seven different clones, three favoured French Bernard variants make up the majority. Younger plantings are trained to a vertical shoot position, older vines are grown on a two wire framework, ensuring a range of characters from each harvest. Hand picking and gentle whole bunch pressing minimise the extractions and preserves natural fruit aromas. A completely natural, wild yeast ferment is followed by a year's maturation in a high proportion of new French oak barriques.

Pale straw with green hues. The nose is full of perfumed, vibrant aromas, nectarines and white peach, brioche and white flowers are complemented by a hint of funk thanks to the indigenous yeast. The vibrant palate offers melons and white peach flavours, with beautiful line and length from the wonderfully mouth watering acid, integrated oak complements a fine, elegant palate. The finish is long and persistent with a fresh zestiness.

The Eden Valley's unique contribution to Australian Riesling is monumental. Heggies is a tremendously challenging vineyard, not an easy one to manage for the growers but the completed wine is a most splendid Riesling. Each grape variety has it's own programme of care according to its position in the vineyard. Working with the natural surroundings rather than against them is the driving force. Every factor is taken into consideration, to grow the most perfect fruit and to ultimately capture the flavour and balance of the grapes in their purest essence.

$2699each $323DOZEN EACH DOZEN Through the use of innovative viticultural practices, working to capture the unique terroir of this challenging single site vineyard, the Heggies viticultural team have produced a wine that is fine and balanced, with enduring minerality and strong regional expressiveness. At Heggies there are a number of blocks of Riesling available, ensuring that the finished wine is of consistently excellent quality each year. Grapes are picked throughout the cool of night and swiftly transported to the winery. There is minimal handling of the juice and only the free run portion is selected. Juices are vinified at cool temperatures to aromatic yeasts and assembled promptly after completion of ferments.

Pale straw with green tints. Notes of orange blossom, citrus, fresh lime juice and a hint of stone flint. The wine shows great length, drive and complexity, flavours of citrus, grapefruits and lime. An outstanding wine in its youth, Heggies finishes with a hint of spice and mouth watering acidity. Vegan friendly and perfect with tempura king george whiting.

A voluminous, golden oaked Chardonnay from a precious block of superior vines, treated to the luxury of a year's maturation in a rich proportion of new French barriques. A beautiful bouquet like an Adelaide Hills spring in full bloom, the peaches, melons and nectarine of early morning market garden, the fragrant saute of leeks in warm butter. Redolent of the succulence and chantilly from good French oak, its serious palate weight and volume of fruit, making a multi dimensional Chardonnay style to match robust white meats, Veau au vin blanc and crispy crackling pork.
