The history of the Burge family and their long association with winemaking in Barossa Valley can be traced back to March 1855, when bespoke tailor John Burge immigrated with his wife and two sons. A fifth generation of the Burge dynasty now brings together the exquisite elegance of Eden Valley with the soft velvetine textures of Barossa, into a remarkable Chardonnay wine. $2199each $263DOZEN EACH DOZEN Grapes are crushed, chilled and pressed, juices are settled for two days before inoculation through the action of eight choice strains of yeast, the majority of components are treated to three weeks of cooler temperatures vinification in controlled fermenters, a third of the wine is sent to seasoned French oak for a course of rich barrel ferments, malolactic and maturation. Upon completion, batches are held for a few months on yeast lees to build texture and infuse richness, followed by a gentle racking and the final assemblage, aimed at retaining maximum flavour, preserving freshness and highlighting the richness of sur lie.

Lemon green hue. An elegant nose dominated by white peach, apricot and hints of honeydew melon. The palate is packed with citrus fruit character, nectarines and cream are balanced by a crisp, lemon rind acidity. A rich and complex contemporary style of Chardonnay that's bound to please. Perfect alongside chicken tikka masala or a sage and pinenut gnocchi.

A component of 5th Generation is sourced from two of the oldest plantings in Barossa Valley, vines up to a hundred years of age, these wonderful old sites yield a quality of Semillon endowed with exceptional intensity and charm. The supple richness of Semillon's delicate perfume mingles alluringly with the piquancy of Sauvignon Blanc. Treated to an extravagant mix of vinification techniques, the finished wine shows exquisite balance.

$2199each $263DOZEN EACH DOZEN The Grant Burge team have selected harvests of Sauvignon Blanc from splendid Eden Valley vineyards on the basis of vibrancy and retention classic fruit profile. Sauvignon Blanc is crushed and de stemmed, Semillon is de stemmed and pressed, a portion as whole bunches. Components of Semillon are barrel fermented in seasoned French oak while treated to a course of lees stirring battonage. The balance of Semillon Sauvignon Blanc are vinfied for two months at low temperatures in fermenters to maximise the retention of fresh varietal flavours. The barrel ferments are matured on sedimentery lees, to impart additional texture and richness.

Lemon green hue. Lifted aromas of citrus and melon, delicately interwoven with subtle herbaceous notes. The palate is fresh and lively, ripe tropical fruit flavours, zesty lime and a soft creamy lemon curd finish. The time spent by Semillon on lees has rounded the palate, adding an extra dimension to the wine. 5th Generation is best enjoyed young, the perfect match to crustacea and fresh fishes.

Burge manages his vineyards to yield fruit of the most exacting standards. Chardonnay is sourced from the Barossa, Eden Valley and Adelaide Hills. Grapes are crushed and cold settled, juices are racked off solids and inoculated for a cool vinification in fermenters over the course of several weeks. A portion is treated to oak barrel ferments, another completes malolactic. All components are aged on yeast lees for complexity, mouthfeel and texture. Following settling and filtration, Benchmark is assembled into the consumate, fruit driven Chardonnay.

Bright gold hue. Vibrant citrus, floral and tropical fruit aromas. The palate is lean and racy, fine natural acidity lending great length to the citrus flavours, a well rounded palate from time spent on lees. Clean varietal characters and rich textures, offering fine balance and remarkable approachability whilst young. Not your rich and traditional full bodied style of Chardonnay, but a more modern rendition best suited to fresh seafood or spicy fish.

The Adelaide Hills make marvelous Pinot Gris and Grant Burge retain the finest. Treated to a long cool ferment, a third of the wine is sent to seasoned French oak barrels for vinification and a spell of maturation on gross sediments, infusing textural richness and mouth watering complexity. Sweet, spicy pear flavours, baked cheesecake and shortcrust characters, complemented by the piquancy of nutmeg, cinnamon and pinenut. An elegant, generously proportioned wine that will bring out the best in all the freshest fare.

A wine of limited production and suitably high demand, fashioned from the distinguished vineyard of Dennis and Val Kraft at Tanunda, which consistently delivers an impeccable quality of fruit with balance and definition. Vines are fully mature and well into their fourth decade, they perform magnificently every vintage, yielding a big, exotic tropical fruit style of Sauvignon Blanc with firm structure. In some years, a component of Adelaide Hills fruit is included, to enhance the Barossa refinement with a dollop of cool climate steelyness and vegetal.

$2699each $323DOZEN EACH DOZEN Fruit is harvested throughout the cool of night, grapes from the distinguished Kraft vineyard always ripen fully to develop vibrant fruit character while maintaining fine and clean, natural acidity. Parcels are crushed and drained through a tank press, the free run juices are cold settled forty eight hours before racking off gross lees. Separate batches are transferred to fermenters, in some years a portion may be vinified under new French oak. Ferments are carried out at low temperatures to retain freshness. Upon completion, batches are held on yeast lees for several months to build texture, before assembling into a wine which expresses the outstanding character and refined balance of Kraft Vineyard.

Pale golden hue. Vibrant green melon, fresh tropical fruit and subtle passionfruit aromas, complimented by delicate floral. The palate is round with crisp fruit flavours, grapefruit, honeydew melons and varietally characteristic green herbaceous tones. The clean fruit flavours are enhanced by refreshing lemon citrus and crisp acidity leaving a lingering and satisfying finish. Fashioned to a vibrant drink now style, the perfect for accompaniement to spicy Asian and piquant seafood recipes.

Lily Farm is the vineyard in front of Grant's house near Tanunda, planted to vine some thirty years ago. Frontignac is a wine that typifies the fruit from which it is made, showing a distinctively, pleasant grape flavour. Frontignanc is unique amongst varietals in that the wine actually tastes and smells of ripe, luscious grapes. Grant Burge make a style of Frontignac that's more generous and engaging, the sweetness of fruit is matched by an adults only complexity, multi dimensional with vivid aromatics and layers of fruit.

Grapes are hand picked at healthy baumes, just short of their ripening potential, capturing a good measure of natural acidity to balance the sweetness of fruit. Following the crush, only the free run juices are retained to ensure a wine of maximum freshness and delicacy. Juices are cold settled and chilled over forty eight hours prior to racking and inoculation. Fermentations are stopped and yeast lees removed when the wine has reached the desired level of sweetness. This achieves a long crisp finish, which Grant Burge believes is the most important feature of the style.

Pale gold in colour. Striking varietal aromas of musk and blossoms, citrus and rosewater. This delicate wine is slightly sweet, offering fruity flavours of lemon and limes, the palate is mouthfilling with delicious citrus sweetness, balanced perfectly by fine natural acidity and a cleansing, refreshing finish which makes it extremely more-ish.

Grant Burge is a fifth generation vigneron and one of Australia's most industry respected winemakers. He retains an intimate knowledge of Barossa vineyards and is well positioned to select the pick of Chardonnay from the choicest cool climate sites. A large portion is sourced from Burge's own Summers property in Eden Valley, a further component is picked off vines planted to higher altitudes in Adelaide Hills. Subtle oak treatments play a role, imparting depth and framing the fruit while supporting the fine palate structure.
