Frogmore Creek Iced Riesling 375ml
Hobart
Available by the dozen
Frogmore Creek is one of Tasmania's most highly awarded wineries. Situated at Penna, just outside Hobart, critical climate indicators such as rainfall and temperature, sunshine hours and number of rain days, combine in perfect balance to create an ideal natural environment for the harvest of richly flavoured Riesling. Slow ripening conditions yield fully developed fruit with an even acidity and exquisite balance. Dry and icy polar winds serve to dehydrate the grapes, a freeze concentration of chilled pressings intensifies natural sugars and heightens flavour.

Frogmore Creek aims to nurture and maintain a biologically diverse environment for the health of vines and fauna. By utilising sustainable farming methods, the waterways remain a safe place for frogs, fish and birds. Since the first vines were planted and the dams established, four species of frogs have made the Frogmore Creek Vineyard their home. Grapes are all hand picked, crushed into press for overnight cold soak to maximise aroma and flavour extraction from skins. De-juiced with only slight pressure prior to freeze concentration, inoculated and treated to a controlled vinification at 16˚C until sugar/ acid/ alcohol balance achieved. The finished Ice Riesling is cross flow filtered to preserve freshness. Alcohol 8.0%

Luminous straw colour. A nose of orange zest, lemon blossom and thick raisin scents lead on to a luscious palate of ripe stonefruit, soft sweet apricots and baked apple characters. A fully aromatic Riesling Icewine with intense flavours and a concentration of natural fruit sugars, layers of complexity build as it sits in the glass and evolves. The finish lingers indefinitely, kept vital by characteristicly cool climate mineral acid. To accompany lemon curd tarts and fine Tasi cheese.

Riesling grapes grown to the higher, slow ripening vineyards of King Valley translate into delicate and intensely flavoured whites. The warmer days develop ripe fruit flavours, cooler nights achieve crisp varietal characters. The fruit is harvested throughout the cool of night, crushed and chill pressed before the dawn, to the lowest free run juice yields. To ensure a superior quality of wine, juice yields are closely watched and the pressings are arrested at the first sign of phenolic uptake. Batches are treated to a cool vinification for 3½ weeks in controlled fermenters, retaining all the wonderfully fresh citrus characters and preserving pure King Valley Riesling charm.

Light straw colour. An intense floral nose with a hint of zest, rose petal and honeysuckle aromas leading to stonefruit flavours. A luscious, cool ripened palate that's bursting with citrus, lime and spicy fruit flavours, soft and fresh. The long and lingering, gentle palate is softened by a touch of residual sugar, finishing clean and lingering, tight and very crisp.

Grapes are hand picked at healthy levels of baume, to construct a wine of delicacy and finesse. The earlier long cool ripening period of Eden Valley provides outstanding growing conditions and is the raison d'être for some of Australia's most internationally renowned Riesling wines. Half of the fruit is whole bunch pressed to maximise elegance, the balance is crushed directly into fermenters, the juices immediately drained to minimise skin contact. After two days of cold settling, the exclusively free run juices are racked and three cultured yeasts added to initiate a strictly temperature controlled fermentation at 11ºC. After six weeks rest on lees, the finished wine is racked and assembled for bottling.

Pale gold with green tinges. Delicate bouquet of fresh lime, lemons and hints of floral blossom. The flavours of fresh limes and lemons flow into the palate, clean and crisp, acidity and minerality provide a fine, lingering finish. Thorn Vineyard shows excellent balance, integration and length, drinking exceptionally well while young, the perfect choice with natural oysters.
Heggies Botrytis Riesling
Eden Valley
Available in cartons of six
Heggies is an exquisite, though difficult to manage, single vineyard site. The undulating slopes, high in Valley Eden, prevent frosts from settling, such that the unique terroir is encouraged to produce remarkable wines. Fruit is harvested in small, hard won lots, the narrower sections and rows demand to be picked exclusively by hand. A scrupulous sorting is essential, Botrytis affects each bunch of grapes in different ways. The integrity of each parcel is maintained throughout the vinification, ensuring that almost every planting is afforded the opportunity to have a say in the final wine.

Riesling has been Ken Helm's passion for well over thirty years. He is a direct descendant of Rhine Valley vignerons and arguably understands Riesling better than anyone else in Australia. The Lustenberger vineyard sits at 650 metres, it faces north with an east to west row orientation, vertical shoot canopy managed, it's designed for maximum protection of fruit against sunburn, a main cause of inferior quality harvests and fruit taint. The soil consists of conglomerate volcanic ironstone and sandstone with a reasonable depth of friable over clay soils. Only those parcels of fruit which can display the essential qualities required of a national flagship Riesling wine are considered for inclusion into Black Label Helm.

Pale light straw colour. Fresh lifted floral nose showcasing topical lime and lemon citrus characters, mineral and spice. A soft acid palate displaying ferric notes, drying crystaline nature and slate, indicative of the iron soils content. Persistence of fruit with an elegant structure, offering all the classic varietal flavours of the finest slow ripened, cool climate Rieslings.
