Egon Muller IV is heir to one of Europe's great winemaking dynasties. His father added to the family's portfolio of distinguished old vines by acquiring six acres of the eminent Weingut Le Gallais in Wiltingen. Fruit sourced from the Kupp and Braune Kupp blocks of La Gallais make the most compelling Riesling wines, to rival the profound efforts of the great Scharzhofberger vineyard.

The sheltered bend, between Kanzem and Wiltingen, is considered the best microclimate in the district. Weingut Egon Muller acquired half of the eminent estate in 1954, leasing the balance of the property from Madame Rochon. Braune Kupp is fermented mostly through the action of wild yeasts in old, thousand litres oak foudres. The wines are raised in ancient cellars which were built by mediaeval monks. The deep, very cold and damp environments make the perfect environment in which to gently age the wines, built for the long haul.

Light golden straw. Exotic nose of sweetly scented citrus, stonefruits and banana with florals and fragrant Bäckerei notes. Medium bodied palate exhibiting fine minerality and chalky acids in support of the rich, complex Riesling fruit characters, lime, honeysuckle and slate. Care is taken in every step of the vine cycle, hand pruning, careful selection of picking time and many hours of nurturing throughout the year all contribute to the wonderful results found in the bottle. Grapes are predominantly sourced from the Storton Vineyard, located just outside the township of Eden Valley. Quick separation of the juice from the skins gives the purest juice possible. A long cool ferment and prompt separation from the yeast lees has given a truly vibrant Riesling of classical style. Bottled very early to capture all the fresh citrus/lime characters and to hold the crisp finish.

Pale straw hues. A bouquet of citrus, passionfruit and lavender. A profuse palate of limes and mineral on a precise acid line. Tight, dry and zingy, spectrums of bright citrus florals with green pear and quartz. Elgee Park is the oldest vineyard on the Mornington Peninsula. The picturesque property is situated at the end of Wallaces Road, amidst the protected gentle hills of Merricks North, one of the warmest sites on the peninsula. Established in 1972 by Baillieu Myer and family, the five hectare property was the first in a new era of distinguished Mornington vineyards. The splendid maritime conditions which surround the vines are so very similar to that of Bordeaux. Limited quantities of exceptional wine are released each year under the Family Reserve label.

Surrounded by gardens, the vineyard is adorned by a gazebo and sculptures, hand hewn fences and an array of roses at the end of each vine row. There's normally good rainfall throughout the growing season and the climate offers an extended ripening period, ideal for premium grape growing. After being harvested at perfect ripeness, grapes are de-stemmed and crushed, drained, pressed and settled. The free run juices are cool fermented, settled and racked, filtered and bottled to arrive at a wonderfully fresh, crisp and aromatic style. Alcohol 13.0%

Forest Hill's experience with Riesling dates back forty years to when the first two acres of vine anywhere within the Great Southern region were established. One of the most precious sites planted to the superior terrains around Denmark, it was selected by Dr John Gladstone, one of the pioneers of West Australian viticulture, later acquired by Robert Holmes à Court. Nothing short of exquisite, a fine acid structure will see it evolve beautifully, clean varietal fruit and softness make it a perfect match today alongside Thai prawns in ginger, chilli and lime.

$2699each $323DOZEN EACH DOZEN Riesling is harvested early in the morning to ensure the coldest possible fruit temperature. A key aim of the winemaking process is to preserve the very delicate flavours and aromas. Fruit is immediately pressed without enzyme for a gentle and quick extraction. Only the first portion of free run juice with the freshest flavour and the lowest concentration of phenolics is transferred to tank. Juices are cold settled, racked and left to ferment with wild yeast at 14C to 16C. Wild fermentation of the juice although risky for such a fragile variety adds complexity of flavour and increases palate texture. Upon completion the wine is fined, filtered and bottled as soon as possible to preserve the vibrant flavours and aromas.

Brilliant pale straw. Lifted aromas of citrus blossom, zest of lemon, green apple, underlined with floral notes, citrus zest and rose petal evolve in the glass, waxy lemon leaf and lime, complex floral notes feature. The natural acidity is very well balanced and integrated, lifting the freshness of flavours and lengthening the fleshy mouthfeel as it evolves on the palate. Flint stone characters linger, persisting into a crisp mineral finish.

A profound construct of West Australian Riesling, from fruit grown to a fastidiously managed site at Frankland River, one of the most isolated vineyards in the world, the product of uncompromising standards in viticulture. The vineyard is planted to Geisenheim and Rhine Riesling clones, into ironstone gravel over loam and clay subsoils, on an undulating northeast facing slope. Isolation Ridge slowly opens up in the glass, exhibiting purity of flavour, exceptional balance and a refined natural acidity, which carries the wine today and well into the future.

$3999each $479DOZEN EACH DOZEN Dry grown Geisenheim and Rhine Riesling vines, established in 1988 and trained to Scott Henry vertical shoot trellis, planted to organically managed, rich ironstone gravels over loam and clay sub soils. The long slow ripening periods of Frankland River encourage maximum development of flavour while maintaining the distinctive racy acidity and dry finish for which Riesling is renowned. Grapes are pressed immediately and juices settled overnight, before being racked, aiming to minimise intervention, capturing the purest and finest expression of fruit grown to Isolation Ridge. The organically grown Riesling is treated to a cool vinification in a mix of fermenters and neutral oak at low temperatures of less than 14C

Light green straw colour. Intense aromatics of ironstone flintiness, lashings of lime with lifted floral notes. Fine and elegant, yet fills the mouth with a concentrated mix of juicy lime and citrus notes followed by a core of spicy ironstone minerality. A generous mouth filling texture but with an underlying tightness showing length, balance and focus giving the wine personality and direction.
