Langmeil Valley Floor Shiraz
Barossa
Available by the dozen
A collation of fruit grown to blocks of new and old vines on the Barossa Valley floor, some up to 120 years of age, artfully vinified into the timeless style of honest, traditional Aussie Shiraz. Langmeil obtains much of its material from old, pre phylloxera and own rootstock vineyards throughout the region, in order to guarantee the quality and consistency of its wines. Ripe, rich plummy and dark cherry fruit with earthy tones and hints of spice, it displays fine toasty oak tannins in support of a medium to full bodied wine with splendid soft dry finish.

The barely irrigated, old Barossa vineyards, blessed by exceptional soils and idyllic aspects, yield harvests of superlative Shiraz which reflect the character of each unique mesoclime. The choicest parcels are treated to a traditional open fermentation and basket press. Paul Lindner practices old world techniques with obsolete equipment to unlock and exploit full potential of flavours held in the grapes, triumphing in a powerful fruit driven wine that exhibits subtle complexity and discernible vineyard character. A minimal amount of handling and filtration preserves intense flavours, followed by transfer into a selection of seasoned and new French and American oak hogsheads for two years maturation.

Very deep crimson with purple hues. Lifted aromas of raspberry and satsuma plum are complimented by fine milk chocolate, vanilla and hints of butter, smoked and roasted nuances. Sweet primary fruits transfer to the palate which is full and well balanced with briary spice and fine firm oak tannins. The finish is very long, youthful and fruit driven.

Le Pigeoulet des Brunier Rouge
Cotes Du Rhone
Available in cartons of six
Pigeoulet is the vineyard delineation where the illustrious Vieux Telegraphe of Chateauneuf-du-Pape maintain their offices and manage the estate cellars. Le Pigeoulet acquired its own unique nomenclature in 1998, when the terroir of Caromb was incorporated into the Cotes du Rhône appellation. A further plot to the south of the village at Châteauneuf-du-Pape, on the east bank of the Rhône, is planted mainly to forty year old Grenache, Syrah and Cinsault vines, and amounts to a third of the source for the complex cépage of Le Pigeoulet.

Le Pigeoulet is a Vin de Pays de Vaucluse, the house wine at Les Vignobles Brunier. Grenache, Syrah and Cinsault are sourced from sandy clay alluvium soils in the proximity of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The balance of fruit is sourced from the Cotes du Ventoux, on the lower southwest facing foothills of Mont Ventoux in the municipality of Caromb. Vaucluse is the link between these two Pigeoulet terroirs. Grapes are picked by hand and destemmed, followed by twelve to fifteen days vinification in temperature controlled concrete vat, a pneumatic pressing and systematic malolactic fermentation. Aged in vats for six months then transferred to large oak foudres for a further six months maturation. Bottled after a slight filtration.

Bright scarlet colour. Tender, fresh and fruity in character, violet and cherry nose over supple spice and licorice scents, a hint of vanilla, cocoa and earth. Elegant, fruit forward palate of plum and strawberry flavours supported by crisp tannins and juicy rhubarb acids. Clean and well integrated, offering instant pleasure for the everyday Aussie drinker who likes a bit of French.

Leabrook Estate Cabernet Franc
Adelaide Hills
Leabrook are all about crafting restricted yields of hand picked Adelaide Hills fruit through a Burgundian approach to winemaking. Vines were originally establsihed to a quarter hectare hobby block of rocky clay soil in Onkaparinga Valley, closely planted in the traditional French way, the inaugural vintages immediately started to show promise. A historic woollen mill in Lobethal was ideally suited as a wineworks. Textural, elegantly aromatic and exquisitely balanced, the limited release wines of Leabrook may not be easy to find but they are worth the challenge.

Leabrook Estate Pinot Noir
Adelaide Hills
Leabrook were born out of a love for the great Pinot Noir growths of la Bourgogne. Following a proverbial pilgimmage to the illustrious Cote-d'Or, a quarter hectare of rocky soils was secured on the propitious Adelaide Hills, the aim being to construct a new world Pinot Noir of satin textures, solid palate weight and the softest, chamois tannins. Closely planted and lovingly husbanded, the precious vines yield an extraordinary quality of Pinot Noir. A mix of seasoned and new French oak barriques are employed to mature gracefully without dominating the fruit.

The closely managed Leabrook vines are always pruned hard in winter and trimmed throughout the summer, ensuring low yields of well exposed berries. Earlier picked grapes offer greater finesse and aromaticness, parcels picked later in the season are laden with bolder flavours and greater structure. Vinification techniques may vary according to the influences of the vintage, acid levels are checked and the mode of handling is determined as fruit is sorted at the winery. The aim is to construct a Pinot Noir with profound smoothness of texture, solid palate weight and the softest tannins. A selection of one and two year old French oak barriques are employed to mature components without dominating fruit.
