From vineyards around the towns of Mazan, Moimoiron, Villes sur Azon, Puymeras and Saint-Didier on the southern slopes of Mont Ventoux, where the average height above sea level is three hundred metres. The soils can vary according to altitude but consist for the most part of deposits left around the base of chalky Mont Ventoux by receding seas of the tertiary period. Rich, red mediterranean soils are blended amongst the chalky debris and round stones. Vinification is adapted slightly to suit each grape variety. Nearly all parcels are lightly crushed and treated to a traditional extended fermentation in 150 and 300 hectolitre concrete vats, before ten months maturation in a combination of vats and large oak barrels.

Deep cherry red colour. The nose is rich and spicy exuding ripe fruit aromas The palate is well balanced with notes of red berries, cocoa and plum, supported by hints of background oak, a good solid red wine finishing with soft and pleasant tannins. Made to be enjoyed young, can accompany a wide range of flavoursome foods and is immensely satisfying just on its own.

Ladies Who Shoot Their Lunch Shiraz
Strathbogie
Available in cartons of six
An exclusively Strathbogie Ranges Shiraz, most of the grapes come from Rocky Hill Block at Whitegate, with a further component from Block 6 at Upton Run. The magic of this wine evolves while ageing in a collection of very old, large English oak casks. These barrels are home to a hundred years of bugs and bacteria which impart complexity, allowing the wine to breath, integrating fruit and taming the tannins. A beguiling wine of striking colour and elevated aromas, pristine fruit and a persistent, flavourful finish which conjures up images of wilderness and game.

Shiraz is inoculated to various yeast strains and vinified at 23C under swept arm fermenters, which tend to develop vibrant perfumes and gripping tannins in the finished wine. A number of ferments create a shallow cap for good extractions. AWRI796 is a neutral yeast which permits the grape and terroir to express itself. Enoferm Syrah is a high glycerol producer which contributes mouthfeel while enhancing the bouquet, contributing violets and black pepper. Upon completion, the majority of components spend time in large, well seasoned 5000 Litres English oak casks. The balance is treated to maturation in a selection of seasoned and new, French oak hogsheads and puncheons.

Deep red, youthful, purple at the rim. A well perfumed wine with highly aromatic nose exhibiting violets, pepper and spice. Restrained chocolate oak behind a complexity of dried fruit characters. Rich, dark fruit flavours on the full bodied palate, concentrated and offering very good length.

The Follett family vineyard was established in the 1880s by Arthur John Follett, great, great grandfather of today's winemaker. The site is surrounded by majestic river red gums which infuse the grapes with eucalypt characters. Lake Breeze selects only the best 25% of fruit from the older vines for its estate releases, a limited crush of only two hundred tonne. The old vines, which are dry grown, rely on winter flooding of the Bremer River, to carry the vines through the dry summer months, as Langhorne Creek receives very little rain. Bernoota is vinified on skins in open static fermenters for a week, followed by twenty months maturation in a combination of American and French oak barriques.

Deep scarlet colour. Bernoota shows dark fruit characters of blackberry and plum with a hint of spice, cigarbox and smoke. It's lifted aromas carry a heady whiff of exotic spice, leading on to a juicy palate underpinned by smooth, smoky vanilla/ coconut oak and firm, pliant tannins. This is an impressive wine with persistent dark berry characters and genial acids, seamlessly adjoined into a full bodied, complex wine of great poise and solid structure.

A full bodied Cabernet Sauvignon wine from fruit picked off fully mature vines, forty years of age on the Follett family property. The dry grown vines rely on winter flooding of the Bremer River, vital to carry things through the dry summer months, as Langhorne Creek receives very little rain. The finished wine is matured in a combination of French and American oak barriques for twenty months prior to bottling after minimal filtration.
