Leabrook Estate Pinot Noir
Adelaide Hills
Leabrook were born out of a love for the great Pinot Noir growths of la Bourgogne. Following a proverbial pilgimmage to the illustrious Cote-d'Or, a quarter hectare of rocky soils was secured on the propitious Adelaide Hills, the aim being to construct a new world Pinot Noir of satin textures, solid palate weight and the softest, chamois tannins. Closely planted and lovingly husbanded, the precious vines yield an extraordinary quality of Pinot Noir. A mix of seasoned and new French oak barriques are employed to mature gracefully without dominating the fruit.

The closely managed Leabrook vines are always pruned hard in winter and trimmed throughout the summer, ensuring low yields of well exposed berries. Earlier picked grapes offer greater finesse and aromaticness, parcels picked later in the season are laden with bolder flavours and greater structure. Vinification techniques may vary according to the influences of the vintage, acid levels are checked and the mode of handling is determined as fruit is sorted at the winery. The aim is to construct a Pinot Noir with profound smoothness of texture, solid palate weight and the softest tannins. A selection of one and two year old French oak barriques are employed to mature components without dominating fruit.

Lethbridge Estate Pinot Noir
Geelong
Available in cartons of six
Lethbridge was originally planted to vine by Swiss immigrants circa 1874. Replanted and redeveloped in 1996, the site is managed to the biodynamic principles of Biological Farmers Australia. Real wine is the passion, wines which are the product of healthy vines and traditional vinification. A mixture of clones, including MV6 and 114, 115 and 777 are grown to a number of unique terroirs on the Lethbridge property. All blocks are picked and handled separately in order to construct a Pinot Noir with penetrative palate and engaging complexity.

All harvesting is done by hand, grapes are crushed and destemmed, a portion is included as whole bunches. Pre-fermentation maceration ensues for seven to ten days until a wild indigenous yeast fermentation ensues. The musts are vinified in small open 500 litre vats for a week at temperatures peaking to 31C, while being treated to pigeage four times daily. Fermentations are followed by several days of maceration for optimal extraction. Batches are pressed straight to a combination of new and seasoned French oak barrels to allow for gross lees contact. Following malolactic, components are racked twice throughout the maturation period before being bottled unfiltered.

Deep red colour. Intense bouquet of cherries and spice, mocha and smoked meats. A sweet cherry and briar flavoured palate with hints of clove. Offers excellent palate weight, a silky mouthfeel and fine integrated tannins. Lovely balance across the palate and a great long finish. Quality, without compromise, a European accented wine with the focus on balance and texture, made for enjoyment alongside good food.

From a precious parcel of Pinot Noir, picked off an isolated block of cane pruned vine, the shallowest patch of soil in the vineyard, which keeps vine vigor low, bunch size down and berry size small. The grapes from this block have a high skin to must ratio, intense colour and intensity of concentration. Grapes are gently destemmed, a third are included as whole bunches, into open top fermenters, hand plunged twice daily to extract tannin structure and deep colour. Upon completion, batches are pressed into a selection of new and seasoned, Sirugue and Bossuet, Allier and Chatillon forest French oak barriques, for malolactic and a term of maturation, bottled unfiltered and fined. Alcohol 15.0%

Lightfoot Sons Myrtle Point Rose
Gippsland
Myrtle Point Vineyard was established in the 1990s, after a soil mapping of the region identified tracts of precious Terra rosa over limestone substrate. The fortuitous soils are enhanced by the temperate growing seasons to form a mesoclime, very like the splendid terroirs of La Belle France. Ferments through the action of Rose specific yeast, retain the precociousness of Pinot Noir, just picked from the vineyard, while infusing into the blushing pink wine, fruity fragrances and a redolent, ripe berry palate.
