Grampians Estate has quickly established an iconic reputation for its cool climate peppery Shiraz. The small eight acre site is located south of the Great Dividing Range alongside Grampians National Park. The vineyard is planted to granite soils over sandstone, vines are cane pruned and grapes are hand picked with help from the local Moyston Willaura Football Netball Club. Rutherford is an exclusively estate grown and bottled wine vinified from hand sorted Shiraz grapes and treated to the full regimen of Methode traditionelle, followed by twelve months maturation in a selection of well seasoned French oak barrels, before a further two years resting in bottle on sedimentery lees.

Dark ruby colour, persistent purple mousse. Red and black berry bouquets with an overlay of white pepper. A full and flavoursome, mouth filling palate, medium bodied and elegent, exhibiting soft mouth feel with peppery spice undertones. Surely the most generous and effusive style of aperitif wine, without peer as conversation starter, a bliss alongside chocolate and cherry desserts.
Mount Langi Billi Billi Pinot Gris
Grampians

Pinot Gris vines were first planted at Mount Langi in the early 1990s. With altitudes and climes not dissimilar to the grape's original home in Alsace along the Valley Rhine, Grampians grown Pinot Gris is brimming with the baked pear and cool ripened lychee characters, kernel aromaticness and textural richness which make white Pinot wines so charming and persuasive. A match to bitey cheese and the freshest seafood, Mount Langi drinks magnificently alongside pork with apple dressing.

While the mesoclimes at Mount Langi are only marginal for grape growing, the estate's spectacular setting creates a unique environment that's ideal for producing wines of distinctive character. Neighbouring mountains Langi Ghiran and Cole create a cooling effect as chill winds tumble down and flow through the valley at night. As vintage approaches, the mountains shadow the vineyards before day's end, shortening the effective sunshine hours and prolonging the growing season for extended ripening. Parcels of Pinot Gris are crushed and cold soaked before vinification in controlled fermenters on light solids for two or three weeks. Early bottling preserves the lively fruit character and retains freshness. Alcohol 13.9%

Peach yellow hue. Lychee and stonefruit nose, lemon flower, lightly spiced pine nut and citrus pith. A solid palate, fine acid structure in support of creamy fruit flavours, pear and lychee characters dominate, fine acid builds length and contributes structure. Flint and minerality follow all the way to a clean and complex finish. Very food friendly and a superb aperitif wine just on its own.

The Grampians are notorious for drought conditions which take a very firm grip on the vines, giving them a shakedown of any water they might have and concentrating the flavours. Many of the vines are grown to higher altitudes, cold air tumbles down the mountains and chills the fruit throughout the ripening. Harvests of Shiraz exhibiting strong spice and pepper characters are set aside for Billi Billi. Grapes are treated to a cold soak on skins for a fortnight, inoculated to yeast strains Maurivin B and 796 for eight days vinification in traditional open top fermenters, hand plunged and transferred to a selection of new and seasoned French and American oak barriques for a year's maturation. Alcohol 14.2%

Deep, dense purple. Blackberry and dark cherry fruits, layered with oriental spice and complex cool climate characters. Palate shows rich plum and dark berry fruit characters alongside some spicy complexity. Terrific depth of flavours are all supported by fine tannins, for a medium bodied Shiraz wine with good length of palate. Smooth from top to bottom, Billi Billi aims to please with generosity of flavour, fine textures and silky mouthfeel.

The vineyards of Mount Langi are underlaid by unique soils rarely found anywhere in Australia. Solid granite has eroded over eons, leaving a granite topsoil over red clay loams, forcing the vines to struggle for their water, intensifying flavour and introducing great complexity. Pinot Gris is harvested, much of it by hand, off mature vines twenty years of age. Fruit is processed without any skin contact time to reduce phenolic uptake, inoculated to yeast type Maurivin 796 and treated to a fortnight of cool vinification on grape solids. Upon completion, a small component is sent to seasoned 228 litre French oak barriques for two months, before assembling into the finished wine. Alcohol 11.0%

Pale straw green hue. Pear fruit aromas, guava and exotic spice notes, ginger and hints of jasmine on the bouquet. A solid Pinot Gris, offering lemon sorbet flavours, pear juice and hints of ginger to the fore, a palate of great interest, layers of stonefruit and spiced floral elements, within a texturally rich mouthfeel, resolving on a finish of fine acid and great length.

Famous for their stately reds, Mount Langi are also well placed to make the nation's finest white. Always among the last vineyards in Australia to be picked, Mount Langi can look forward to the type of extended growing season which yields remarkable white wine vintages. Grapes are harvested off blocks of old vine, the youngest are in their fourth decade, some planted over a century ago. Fruit is crushed into controlled fermenters for inoculation to a high glycerol, Riesling specific yeast 796, for three weeks vinification on light solids at 15C. Upon completion, components are assembled into the finished wine for early bottling, to capture and retain the wonderfully fragrant Grampians Riesling characters.

Very light straw hue. Intense lemon and lime citrus nose, lanolin and floral notes, honeysuckles and a fragrant mineral edge. A palate of terrific fruit precision and splendid length, exquisitely clean fruit characters upfront, chalkiness and quartz, reined in by a lean yet juicy, crisp, tight acidity. Amazing balance throughout, the wine lingers on a prolonged, pristine finish.

Excellent Langtons Classification. A long and extended growing season means that the Mount Langhi property is one of the last blocks to be harvested in Victoria. Also of significance is that only the best berries are carefully picked off the precious old vines. The famous Langhi Ghiran is fermented in traditional open, shallow, concrete tanks, before ageing in a selection of the finest oak barrels. Langhi Ghiran is selectively hand picked from the iconic Langi Old Block, grown to granitic sand over red clay podzols, established 1963 to the Swiss Clone Shiraz. By hand selecting the choicest grapes from these old vines, the finest parcels can be marked for inclusion. This method leaves a considerable portion of grapes on the vine, but avoids any shriveled or unripened berries. Moreover, this process responds to the natural variation within the vineyard block caused by aspect, warmth and exposure to wind and sunlight. After a course of hand plunging over three weeks skin contact and fermentation completely to dry, Langhi Ghiran is matured in a selection of seasoned and new French oak barriques.
