Vasse Felix enjoys near perfect conditions for viticulture. The Mediterranean climate features mild, wet winters and warm, dry summers, ideal for the growth of high quality fruit. Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc flourish in these climes, developing distinctive regional characters not found anywhere else in Australia. Ripening conditions provide the varietal definition and aromatic qualities which make Margaret River so unique. Grapes are picked to modest levels of sugar baume, capturing fine aromas, crisp primary fruit flavours and good, clean acid structure. The juices are fermented under cool conditions with specially selected yeasts, completely unoaked to preserve the vitally crisp bouquet and flavours.

Bright pale straw, fresh green hue. Lifted citrus aromas are supported beautifully by nuances of passionfruit with hints of yellow rose, orange and lemon rind. The palate is zesty and vibrant, with fresh fruit sweetness adding a juicy succulence to the pure fruit characters. The crisp acidity provides great length to the wine, while flavours of freshly cut grass, citrus and passionfruit add further intensity.

Vasse Felix have always been well positioned to produce the finest Margaret River Chardonnay. Sultry maritime climes are ideal for the early ripening varietal. The grapes are smaller than normal, sugar ripeness is accelerated, natural acid levels are always fortuitously favourable to the bright expressions of fruit. Grapes are all harvested by hand, chilled and gently whole bunch pressed, followed by an unclarified, wild fermentation through the action of natural indigenous yeasts in fine French oak barriques, a course of malolactic, battonage and lees stirring derive texture, richness and complexity. Components are treated to nine months in oak before the final assemblage.

Pale lemon, greenish hues. Fruit and savoury elements from natural, barrel ferments entwine within intricate fragrances, light notes of pineapple skin, green apples and apricot, fresh lime and lemon glaze, granita biscuit, lightly toasted almond and clove oak spice. Succulent and juicy palate, fresh and vibrant with delicate fruit flavours, fresh pineapple and green apple, a hint of lemon cheesecake before a dry, lemon biscuit, citrus pith finish.

Half the grapes are hand picked and whole bunch pressed, the balance picked in the cool of night, preserving vibrant fruit character. Parcels are pressed off and the free run juices separated before settling overnight, racked to an extravagant selection of mostly new French oak barriques with varying levels of solids, achieving intense barrel ferment characters and palate weight. All batches are fermented wild without any added yeasts or malolactic to retain splendid natural acidity, stirred throughout nine months maturation, allowing the lees to impart further complexity to the texture and palate weight. The best barrels are identified and assembled into the final wine.

Vasse Felix Sauvignon Semillon
Margaret River
Praise the virtues of Margaret River's most suave, stylish and stimulating oenological accords! A portion is fermented and matured fourteen weeks in new barriques, adding an amazing complexity to the core of fruit, infusing a delicate influence of very fine grain tannins and the unique spicy vanillin characters of French oak. The aromatic and textural complexity of a Semillon Sauvignon style has been enhanced by retaining extra solids in some of the parcels. A small contribution from Sauvignon Blanc fermented entirely on skins has added a unique savouryness.

Grapes are hand harvested to modest baumes and natural sugar profiles. Picking at such levels creates a wine with sufficiently low alcohol, displaying a balance and delicacy that is often lost in Australian Chardonnay. The fruit is immediately taken to the winery, cooled overnight and whole bunch pressed. Components are barrel fermented in a combination of new and prior use French oak (Latour, Dargaud & Jaegle, Seguin Moreau and Cadus). A third of the parts are inoculated for a course of malolactic, building texture and introducing creamyness while lowering the natural acidity. Voyager is treated to regular battonage over the course of several months in French oak barriques.

Pale straw hues. Delicate aromas of white flower, citrus and nectarine over subtle flinty notes. Plenty of nutty flavours and mealy notes from the lees stirring and quality French oak, ripe stone fruits, tropicals and dried pear. Lovely soft creamy textures dominate the palate, a wonderful purity of fruit is perfectly countered by a savoury, mineral edge.

The application of simple vineyard philosophies is more important to making a great Chenin Blanc than introducing new techniques. Basic vineyard principles which remain universal are a good terroir and minimal intervention. The management of vines at Voyager Estate focuses on canopy maintenance, low bud numbers and small bunches. Clonal selection means finding the perfect match for each soil. Chenin Blanc is sourced from three estate blocks, grapes are immediately pressed, juices are cold settled, racked and inoculated with yeast QA23. After two to three weeks vinification at 15ËšC, batches are held on yeast lees for a month and regularly stirred to enhance textural richness. Alcohol 13.5%

Light straw colour. Aromas of tropical fruits, grassy herbaceousness with fresh notes of citrus and red apples. Rich tropical fruit flavours of lychee and paw paw with hints of citrus and red apple create a fruit salad styled palate. Voyager displays lovely fruit weight and texture with a hint of sweetness balanced by fresh natural acidity.
