The Ingoldby name has been associated with McLaren Vale agriculture for over a century, however it was not until the late 1960s that Jim Ingoldby put the family name on a label. Since that time, Ingoldby have released a profound succession of award winning wines. Harvests of Chardonnay are pressed off skins, half the juices are fermented in seasoned French oak barrels, treated to lees battonage and malolactic for added complexity. Some batches are matured six months in oak barrel, the balance is vinified and held in fermenters to retain freshness. Components are assessed to determine the optimal balance of bright lifted fruit flavours and leesy oak complexity before assembling into the final wine.

Pale straw in colour. Lovely intense stone fruit characters of nectarine and peach, beautifully integrated with nut and nougat aromas, fresh honey butter legs around the rim of the glass, all supported by well balanced oak. A creamy palate offering lovely fresh characters, zestyness and excellent length. With just the faintest touch of oak, the focus is on clean citrus fruit, with nice texture and length of flavour on the back of the palate.
Jim Barry Assyrtiko
Clare Valley
Available in cartons of six
The enduring tradition of Jim Barry wines is based in no small part to the family's peerless excellence in matching grape variety with terroir. Peter Barry first tasted Assyrtiko while on holiday on the Greek island of Santorini, it reminded him of Clare Valley Riesling, albeit within a style he had never imagined. Barry imported cuttings for re planting on the illustrious Lodge Hill Vineyard. Floral aromatics, pear notes and lime, a great concentration of flavour, wet stone and minerality running the length of palate, refreshing line of acidity and lively feel, fine chalky textures.

One of Australia's most prestigious wine regions, famous for Riesling, yielding harvests of generously flavoured fruit. Lodge Hill vineyard is one of the highest points in Clare Valley. Jim Barry's original intention was to devote the entire Lodge Hill property to Riesling. Soils are brown loam over a layer of clay and slate bedrock that's about 900 million years old and has cracked just off the vertical so that water can drain freely through it. It's a soil that nourishes the vines adequately, but makes them struggle just a bit. Grapes are harvested throughout the cool of night at optimum ripeness, characterized by high natural acidity, intense citrus flavours and floral notes, attributable to the property's higher altitudes.

Crystal straw, green hues. Rich and lifted bouquet, pink grapefruit and citrus lime, a hint of spice reveals its Lodge Hill provenance. The palate is dry and mineral, enhanced by a zingy natural acid backbone, flavours of mandarin, white peach and strawberry at the fore, immense length and intensity of flavour, before a crisp, zesty kabinett style of finish.

Sourced off some splendid old vines, grown to one of Watervale's finest sites, the Stanway family's Slate Creek Vineyard Cuasin na Sleina, planted in the 1970s along a northeast southwest orientation to deep, red clay loam over limestone soils with pockets of slate at 350 metres above sea level. Grapes are harvested throughout the cool of night, each block being picked and processed separately, delivered promptly to the winery and crushed, destemmed and chilled prior to a gentle pressing. The free run juices are cool fermented followed by racking and stabilisation prior to a light filtration and bottling. The wine is handled as expeditiously as possible to retain Riesling's essential character and elegance.

The palate will reward those with a penchant for an elegant and refined Riesling, lime juice and lemon zest are complemented by mineral and slate characters. A wonderful example of intense, pure Clare Valley Riesling from the estate's Ackland Vineyard at Watervale. Good growers on elevated slate sites from a little further north in the Clare Valley also contribute fruit. All the grapes are hand picked and gently crushed, only the best free run juices are retained. Knappstein is made with minimal intervention to preserve purity of fruit expression. Juices are cold settled prior to a long fermentation with neutral yeast at low temperatures, all the way to dryness, lasting between fourteen and eighteen days to preserve the delicate flavours and aromas. Upon completion the wine is racked off yeast followed by a light filtration prior to taste trials and assemblage.

Straw lime colour. Lifted citrus aromas with distinct notes of slate and spice. The palate displays classic Watervale characters of lemon and lime with a fine mineral structure. Showing wonderful depth of flavour, a distinct delicacy and liveliness. The natural acid level provides the wine's backbone and palate line and is perfectly balanced even in the wine's youth.
