McLaren Vale makes august Chardonnay wines, multi dimensional, seamless and affable. Beresford planted their rootstock in the 1960s and now host some of the most auspicious Chardonnay vines. Bethany First Village Chardonnay
Barossa
Available by the dozen
Barossa makes a gentler style of Chardonnay. The Schrapel family had the foresight to sow Chardonnay vines long ago, the quality of fruit that grows from these old plantings is now outstanding. A fortnight of ferment is followed by two months of lees stirring battonage on sedimentery lees. Grapefruit, apples and pears to the bouquet, the palate flows with delicate flavours, bakery and butternut, golden apple, peaches and quince. Like all great Chardonnay, Bethany affords the opportunity to experience a growing complexity of remarkable richness as the wine breathes and continues to evolve.

Bidgeebong's vineyards are meticulously managed to yield grapes of optimum flavour and balanced acidity. The estate's Chardonnay vines in particular are some of the most fastidiously husbanded examples in the region. Parcels of Chardonnay are harvested and delivered promptly to the estate wineworks where they are crushed, inoculated and vinified to a fruit driven style, completely unwooded and unoaked. A combination of natural and controlled primary fermentation techniques are employed to construct a wine of great depth and complexity. Alcohol 12.5%

Bleasdale Adelaide Hills Chardonnay
Adelaide Hills
Available by the dozen
Adelaide Hills are but an hour's drive from Bleasdale but the style of Chardonnay grown to the cool ripening aspects of elevated, undulating hillsides is a world away from that grown to the Bleasdale property at Langhorne Creek. The Adelaide Hills style is distinctly crisper and more aromatic, one could say it even tastes chilled at room temperature. An extravagant course of barrel ferments, wild yeast vinification and lees exposure makes a richly textured Chardonnay wine with good colour, savoury vanillan aromatics and solid palate structure.

Bleasdale are the nation's most enduring family operated winery, established 1858 when Frank Potts planted his vines on the banks of Bremer River. He named his property after Reverend John Ignatius Bleasdale who advocated a sober, wine drinking community to the exclusion of hard spirits. A sound business case indeed. Sauvignon Blanc grapes are hand picked from choice Adelaide Hills sites and gently whole bunch pressed directly to French oak barrels. Fermentations are inititated by wild indigenous yeasts from the vineyard still present on the skins, followed by a regimen of lees stirring battonage and nine months maturation before bottling.

Light straw yellow colour. The big, steely nose displays complex aroma of stonefruits and citrus, almond, tapioca and meal. A creamy palate with layers of melon, nectarine and golden delicious flavours, a touch of biscuit and lemon/ almond notes before a crisp, drying and savoury fruit filled finish. A revitalizing style for contemporary palates, the Chardonnay of choice to enjoy alongside prawns or shitake chicken tortelli.
