Shiraz is sourced from a single vineyard at Kingsvale south of Young, planted to wind swept altitudes at 500 metres above sea level. Red sands and cracking clays, basalt and decomposed granite soils, working in concert with the chilly continental climes, yield harvests of remarkable complexity and defined regionality, contributing intense, bright red fruit flavours and piquant black pepper notes to the wines. Grapes are completely de-stemmed, inoculated and treated to a very gentle regimen of pneumatic pumpovers throughout the vinification, allowing berries to remain whole and undamaged. Upon completion, components are filled to a selection of 225 litre French oak barrels for maturation.

Deep red with red hues. Spicy black pepper, whiff of dried herbs, blackberry aromas with floral notes. Sweet attack then concentrated dark berries, medium bodied with chewy tannins and persistent acidity. The support of profoundly integrated oak and seamless tannins keep the bold weight of fruit in check, finishing long, firm and savoury.

Helm Canberra Cabernet
Murrumbateman
The Canberra district is well known for its temperate climes, briskly invigorated by the salty ocean breezes known as Bateman's breath, its surrounds are so very similar to the venerable viticultures of Bordeaux. Ken Helm planted Cabernet Sauvignon vines here in 1973, coddled since establishment and husbanded by Helm, they yield the most exquisite harvests. An old world style of winemaking encourages the fruit to speak for itself. Matured two years in a luxuriously high proportion of new French oak, a bed of firm ripe tannins underpin a compelling construct of our nation's, most capital Cabernet.

Helm Premium Cabernet Sauvignon
Murrumbateman
Cabernet Sauvignon has always been a speciality of Helm. A trip to Bordeaux inspired winemaker Ken Helm and grower Al Lustenburger to perfect the most profound constructs of Cabernet Sauvignon. The Canberra district is perfectly suited to growing this noble grape, as the mesoclimes, so similar to those of Bordeaux, are influenced by trade winds during summer which carry a whiff of sea salt and stimulate the vines. Helm's inaugural vintage immediately attracted praise from the industry press and claimed significant wine show awards.

Helm is a family owned operation, one of the first commercial wineries within the Canberra district. Ken Helm and daughter Stephanie are a father and daughter team, the fourth and fifth generation descendants of migrants from the Rhineland who established vineyards near Albury and Rutherglen in the 1860s. Papa Helm has been involved in the development of the National Wine Show, Cool Climate Wine Show, Wine Press Club of Canberra and numerous promotional events for the Canberra region. Helm craft their Cabernet Sauvignon in the statuesque style of the great Medoc growths. The finished wine is released after two years maturation in a selection of seasoned and new oak casks.

Deep garnet red colour. Bramble bouquet with hints of loganberry, violets and licorice over lightly smoked oak. A finely balanced and elegant wine with the richness of berry fruits and butterscotch flavours deriving from two years maturation in oak casks. Fine tannins provide another dimension to the wine. A long, dark fruited finish with lingering notes of savouryness, cassis and dusty Medoc oak.
