The vines on Short Row block are planted for optimal light exposure, translating into yields of the most flavoursome Shiraz grapes. Fruit is vinified on skins for seven to ten days in open fermenters prior to pressing, the majority is treated to a spell of oak barrel fermentation. Parcels are matured in varying proportions of new and one year old French and American oak barrels for eighteen months. Components are selected for inclusion based on fruit intensity and richness, structure and refined integration of oak. While made to drink well upon release, like all good wine, Short Row rewards the enthusiast who will take the time to decant and set aside for breathing.

Shiraz is sourced from mature vines planted to the Isolation Ridge vineyard. The property sits on an undulating north and east facing slope on ancient duplex soils of gravel and loam over clay sub soil. Vines are trained to Scott Henry trellis, enhancing sunlight penetration of the canopy for optimal ripening. Fruit is vinified as long and as slow as possible, at temperatures not exceeding 30C in open pot fermentation tanks, allowing the cap to be worked by plunging and gentle pump overs. An extended maceration is employed for optimal extractions. The finished wine is aged in 500 litre French oak puncheons, contributing textural complexity without compromising the opulent natural fruit flavours.

Intense flavours of red cherries, chocolates and plum, complemented by savoury complexity and structure with subtle oak integration supporting the long and fine palate. An elegant, stylish and tightly knit wine that unfolds to reveal opulent flavours, savoury undertones and the dusty, earthy character of Frankland River.

Central to Gapsted's viticulture is the ballerina method of canopy vine management which allows gentle morning sunlight and soft mountain breezes to delicately ripen grapes. Harvests are separated into three parcels and handled separately. Flavours and texture are enhanced through extended plunging and pumpovers. The first component is vinified to retain concentration and intensity before being filled to new French oak at the end of primary ferments. The balance is transferred to a selection of new and prior use French and American oak barrels after completion of malolactic. Parcels are treated to an extended two year maturation before assembling into the finished wine. Alcohol 14.2%

Hands off winemaking, purity of fruit, unfined and unfiltered, a raw gem, the uncut version. In 1980 Paul and Jill Buttery purchased their first property on Tatachilla Road, a 38-acre vineyard of Cabernet and Shiraz with a limited supply of mains water. Over the years some of the original site was grafted to white varietals and has since been converted back to various clones of Shiraz. The incredibly low yields across the Uncut blocks have translated into an amazingly powerful wine. Minimally pruned vines, open ferments, gentle pressing and minimal fining and filtration, these are the maxims. A dozen or so Wiltipole sheep amongst the vines help reduce weeds and keep the grass mown around the place.

Deep crimson, purple hues. Satsuma plums, licorice, white pepper, black jubes, mocha, red cherry, hints of cinnamon and savoury oak. A complex web of flavours that traverse the palate. The front is dominated by a darker spectrum of fruits, blackberry, plums and blueberry. A definitive concentration of uncut Shiraz characters, yet elegant with a degree of restraint.
