Woodstock Collett Lane Cabernet Sauvignon
McLaren Vale
Available in cartons of six
William Louis Townsend was granted a Crown Lease in McLaren Vale circa 1905, he made it his home, establishing the original vineyard. It has been known as Woodstock ever since. Doug Collett A.M developed a taste for wine while flying Spitfires over the vineyards of Europe. He was inspired to study Oenology at Roseworthy Agricultural College and graduated to manage Australia's biggest wineworks at Berri Estates. Collett acquired the Woodstock property in 1973, establishing Cabernet vines adjacent to the Stocks in 1988.

Woodstock are made to an elegant yet generous style. In the vineyard, the key is to manage leaf canopies carefully ensuring only the best fruit is produced. The number of leaves are reduced to ensure perfect ripening of berries, permitting good exposure to sunlight and air. Yields are deliberately kept low for good flavour concentration. The best Italian crushers are employed for their gentleness and ability to modulate according to taste. The finished wine is treated to eighteen months in a selection of small, seasoned and new French and American oak barrels, enhancing without dominating the palate, retaining strong varietal expression as complimented by soft, toasty flavours. Alcohol 15.0%

Deep black purple hues. Bursts of blackcurrant, violets and choc mint, licorice, black olives and bay. The palate is full and rich in flavour, lush dark berries coat the mouth while savoury tannins and supporting cedary oak form the structure to encase the fruit as it lingers, retaining the bramble and chocolate savouryness which are so articulate of McLaren Vale Cabernet.

The average age of vine, called upon to make contributions for Black Label, is a courtly thirty to forty years, these seasoned old veterans yield a more traditionally Aussie style of Cabernet Sauvignon, very much in the fashion of the 1980s. Crafted from harvests of tiny, redolent, impenetrably black hued grapes, parcels are collated from the choice of Wynns estate vineyards, proven to be worthy of the long lived and enduring Black Label style. Following vinification and malolactic, components are transferred to a selection of seasoned and new oak barriques, hogsheads and larger format oak vats for an extended, fourteen months maturation. Alcohol 13.5%

A deeply coloured wine with vibrant purple hues. Black cherries, blackberry and bramble aromas intertwine with scents of tobacco and dark spice. Fragrant, bright and pure palate exhibiting blackcurrants, coffee and violet notes. A core of dark fruit runs through the palate, defining Black Label as a powerful expression of ripe Cabernet Sauvignon. Supple tannins coat the palate and frame all the elements to create a focused, elegant and classic Coonawarra.

Wynns John Riddoch Cabernet Sauvignon
Coonawarra
Available in cases of 6
Excellent Langtons Classification. John Riddoch is made in small quantities from the best fruit grown to the estate's extensive plantings of Cabernet Sauvignon. Conceived as a flagship wine for the Wynns portfolio, it carries the name of the Coonawarra's founding father into the 21st century. Arguably richer and more concentrated than any other Coonawarra, made only in years when Cabernet Sauvignon of extraordinarily high quality is available, less than one per cent of the most superior estate grown grapes are destined for inclusion into John Riddoch.

Wynns may be one of the oldest and most distinguished winemakers but there have been changes. Small fermenters, ranging in size from two to ten tonnes, enable the team to keep small vineyard parcels separate in a way that was just not possible before. Access to better quality oak has also made an influence. John Riddoch is a regional flagship from older blocks planted on their own roots in the 1960s and 1970s, cropped at a very low one or two tonnes per acre. Fermentations take place immediately after crushing over a period of five to eight days, after which the wine is pressed off at dryness, followed by fifteen months maturation in a balance of new and seasoned French oak barriques.

Dense, dark red colour with youthful purple hues. John Riddoch broods in the glass before opening up to dark cherry, mint and rich chocolate notes. A solid but stylish palate with the classic ripe Cabernet flavours of black cherries, dark forest fruits and subtle violets. Framing, fine, structural tannins are matched by rich dark, linear fruit. Subtle, fragrant French oak enhances the texture and lingers well after the last mouthful. Long and solid, a memorable experience immediately upon release, yet renowned for it's amazing cellaring potential.

Wynns are synonymous with Coonawarra and Cabernet Sauvignon. It is the region's great affinity for the Cabernet grape which prompted Melbourne wine merchants Samuel and David Wynn to purchase the original John Riddoch plantings and wineworks in 1951, re establishing the property as Wynns Coonawarra Estate. Samuel and David were inspired by the unique qualities of Coonawarra wines, their richness and intensity of fruit character, to build an independent identity for the entire region. Following a traditional vinification and rigorous selection to determine the final assemblage, The Siding is treated to a year's maturation in a mix of seasoned and new French and American oak barrels.

Bright vibrant with vivid purple hue. Concentrated black cherry and olive bouquets with defined blackcurrant and subtle choc mint, supported by hints of violets and aromatic dried herbs. Abundant palate exhibiting classic varietal and regional characteristics of red cherry, mint and dark berry flavours. A perfect integration of soft grainy tannins and subtle toasty oak create a vibrant wine with excellent length.
