Formed from grey Devonian slate, the soils are very deep with no underlying bedrock. Soils are very well drained yet retain sufficient moisture, a characteristic shared by many of the finest European vineyards. The Einzellage covers sixty seven acres, of which Egon Muller owns seventeen. These include three hectares of ungrafted Riesling vines planted in the last century. Kabinett is a very racy and austere wine, with superb mineral toned complexity and a steely edge of acidity, Riesling at its most ethereal.
