Art Series continues to be a collector's wine and to command lofty prices at auctions the world over. So what is it that gives Leeuwin Cabernet its ethereal qualities and makes it stand so far above the rest? Great wines are born in great vineyards, at Leeuwin the viticulturist and winemaker work hand in hand throughout the entire process, combining their skills to create wines of distinction. Major focus is placed on the confluence of climate and soil, viticulture and vinification are as of one. Closely monitored ferments, Bucher Pneumatic presses and a cellar of imported French oak barrels are called upon to ensure that the fruit is transformed into the most stately Cabernet wine.

Deep garnet colour. Striking blackcurrants and cherry scents combine with aromatics of fragrant violets, bay leaf and anise, clove and dried tobacco. Oak is very fine and pencil like creating an overall complex and fragrant nose. A well appointed palate showing direction, balanced with fine texture, exhibiting plump dark forest fruits. Dried sage, coffee bean, slight char and anise rise to a finish which is characterized by structural cocoa powderlike tannins.

Leeuwin Estate is family owned and operated, one of the founding wineries in Margaret River, it consistently produces wines that rank amongst the world's finest. Following an extensive search for the area most suitable to produce the best varietal wines in Australia, American luminary Robert Mondavi, identified the future site of Leeuwin vineyard in the early 1970s. Originally a cattle farm, Leeuwin Estate evolved under the stewardship of Robert Mondavi as mentor and consultant. Maintaining a team of highly skilled and dedicated winemakers, now under the direction of two generations of the founding family, Leeuwin is renowned internationally as one of the world's great winemaking estates. The granitic island where Leeuwin vineyard is located, has weathered over millions of years and provides ancient free draining gravel soils, which are highly complementary to the culture of the vine, as well as promoting great finesse in the wine. Leeuwin's rainfall is dictated by the Roaring Forties which move north in winter and south in summer. With oceans on three sides, fluctuating water temperature by two degrees between summer and winter, the district has its own microclimate. Leeuwin's vineyards are therefore protected from extremes of temperature, frost free during the critical spring growing period. An average year in Margaret River equates to vintages Bordeaux can enjoy only occasionally.

Fresh vibrant pale straw, lime green edges. Bouquet shows lemon sherbet and lime, green pineapple and crisp golden delicious apples. The wine's textural component is immediately evident as bright and lively across the palate from the barrel fermented portion. Great intensity of flavour with lemon and lime the most dominant before a refreshing finish of green apples. Fine racy acidity, a very long, lingering finish.
