Gnangara Sauvignon Blanc
Manjimup Pemberton
Gnangara, pronounced nan-gara, is a reference to the underground spring which nourishes much of the fertile region surrounding the original Evans & Tate wineworks. The perpetually replenished vines yield grapes with great flavour intensity and natural acidity, particularly from sites around Manjimup and Pemberton. The freshness of lime zest comes from Manjimup, Pemberton contributes vital slatey and grassy characters.

Sauvignon Blanc, principally from Manjimup and Pemberton, a pure varietal wine of intensity and concentration. The cool maritime nights and favourable ripening seasons stimulate the vines to develop pungent characters and electrifying acids in the fruit. Grapes are picked throughout the cool of night and lightly pressed. Juices are cold settled in tank at 10C for two days before being racked, warmed to 17C and inoculated to choice strains of yeast for a cool fermentation. Upon completion, portions are kept on light, fresh yeast lees for up to three months. Components are assembled and lightly fined, stabilised and filtered, minimal handling retains the attractive primary fruit qualities of the Gnangara style.
 
Brilliant pale yellow hue. Intensely varietal with layers of lime zest, fig, passionfruits and cut grass. Dry and beautifully refreshing, especially when slightly chilled. The freshness of lime zest comes from the Manjimup component, Pemberton contributes slatey, grassy flavours. From ultra premium vineyards in Wairau valley, chosen to reflect the vibrancy and clean fruit flavours of the very finest Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. A close husbanding of vines combined with careful canopy manipulation, leaf plucking and shoot thinning, yields harvests exhibiting consistent ripeness. Flavour development is aided by cool nights during the critical ripening period leading up to harvest. Fruit is treated to a cool vinification in controlled fermenters to retain freshness and regional charm. Selections of yeasts are chosen to build subtle complexity, the wine remains on yeast lees several months to build body, texture and mouthfeel.

The Grant Burge team have selected harvests of Sauvignon Blanc from splendid Eden Valley vineyards on the basis of vibrancy and retention classic fruit profile. Sauvignon Blanc is crushed and de stemmed, Semillon is de stemmed and pressed, a portion as whole bunches. Components of Semillon are barrel fermented in seasoned French oak while treated to a course of lees stirring battonage. The balance of Semillon Sauvignon Blanc are vinfied for two months at low temperatures in fermenters to maximise the retention of fresh varietal flavours. The barrel ferments are matured on sedimentery lees, to impart additional texture and richness.
 
Lemon green hue. Lifted aromas of citrus and melon, delicately interwoven with subtle herbaceous notes. The palate is fresh and lively, ripe tropical fruit flavours, zesty lime and a soft creamy lemon curd finish. The time spent by Semillon on lees has rounded the palate, adding an extra dimension to the wine. 5th Generation is best enjoyed young, the perfect match to crustacea and fresh fishes.

A wine of limited production and suitably high demand, fashioned from the distinguished vineyard of Dennis and Val Kraft at Tanunda, which consistently delivers an impeccable quality of fruit with balance and definition. Vines are fully mature and well into their fourth decade, they perform magnificently every vintage, yielding a big, exotic tropical fruit style of Sauvignon Blanc with firm structure. In some years, a component of Adelaide Hills fruit is included, to enhance the Barossa refinement with a dollop of cool climate steelyness and vegetal.

Fruit is harvested throughout the cool of night, grapes from the distinguished Kraft vineyard always ripen fully to develop vibrant fruit character while maintaining fine and clean, natural acidity. Parcels are crushed and drained through a tank press, the free run juices are cold settled forty eight hours before racking off gross lees. Separate batches are transferred to fermenters, in some years a portion may be vinified under new French oak. Ferments are carried out at low temperatures to retain freshness. Upon completion, batches are held on yeast lees for several months to build texture, before assembling into a wine which expresses the outstanding character and refined balance of Kraft Vineyard.
 
Pale golden hue. Vibrant green melon, fresh tropical fruit and subtle passionfruit aromas, complimented by delicate floral. The palate is round with crisp fruit flavours, grapefruit, honeydew melons and varietally characteristic green herbaceous tones. The clean fruit flavours are enhanced by refreshing lemon citrus and crisp acidity leaving a lingering and satisfying finish. Block 1 is a steep gravelly slope of old, dry grown Semillon Sauvignon vines, amongst the first ever planted in Margaret River, yielding a very small crop of the most articulate Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc with a depth of flavour and intensity rarely seen. Only the purest free run juice are treated to a rich course of barrel ferments in seasoned French oak, followed by a term of eight months maturation. Lemony mineral, mesmerizingly complex with underlying toastyness, an amazing palate extension of gooseberries and lychee lingering to a clean ultra dry finish.

This scrumptuous wine is a tribute to the nearby historic Lenswood Coralinga homestead and surrounding apple orchards. The vineyard has a steep north to east facing slope, and the vines here grow vigorously, flowering generously and in general setting healthy crops. At 550 metres, Lenswood enjoys higher rainfall and humidity at the right time of year, cooler temperatures to retain high natural acidity and still enough sunshine to fully ripen grapes. Fermented in tank and bottled post vintage, unaged and unoaked to preserve the wine's superior fruit characters. Lenswood Coralinga captures the exotic aromatic qualities of Sauvignon Blanc grown to an exceptional Adelaide Hills site.
 
Pale yellow green hue. Sweet, delicate floral aromas of passionfruit, gooseberry and tropical fruits are punctuated by notes of fejoa and white currant. The palate is rich and minerally with intense flavours of citrus, gooseberry and tropical fruits, and just a hint of anise and caraway, the finish is clean, crisp and lingering.
