Whitehaven pride themselves on their quality of fruit. Vines are trained to three or four canes on a vertical trellis. Balanced pruning, shoot thinning, tucking and trimming are used to achieve an open, healthy canopy and clean fruit as the cool nights serve to retain acid freshness and delicate flavours. Grapes are immediately with minimal contact on skins. After settling, the clear juices are vinified in fermenters at very low temperatures through the action of select yeast strains to preserve the distinctive Marlborough varietal characters.
 
Crystal clear, straw hues. Vibrant white currant, nettles and gooseberry aromas around a core of persistent grapefruit. Some pungent herbaceous and capsicum characters fill the background. The palate is full and vibrant, fresh nettle, gooseberry and tropical fruit flavours abound, lingering on the long, clean acid finish.

Vineyards are harvested throughout the cool of morning to ensure the least damage to delicate fruit flavours. The grapes are processed within hours of arrival at the winery, skins are separated from juices, pressed and re-introduced with the free run for a period of cold settling. Individual vineyard parcels are fermented separately in tank after inoculation to a variety of neutral and aromatic yeast strains selected specifically to enhance the distinctive natural expressions of each individual site. Following a cool tank fermentation the wines are racked off gross lees and allowed to sit on light lees prior to assembling into a wine with aggressive Sauvignon Blanc characters, herbaceousness and tropical.
 
Soft in colour with green hues. Tropical and citrus fruits along with attractive herbaceous/ varietal characters on the nose. Gooseberry and apple dominate, whilst other crunchy orchard fruits are present, pear and nashi, melon with citrus, limes, floral notes and vegetable. The palate is generous and fruit driven with classical Marlborough acidity giving a fresh, clean palate and passionfruit finish.

Very light straw hue. Snap peas and lemongrass, ripe tropical notes of lychee and nashis, kiwi and thyme. A solid palate of green vegetable flavours, herbaceousness and snow pea, supported by wet tropical fruit flavours, bananas and pandan, over a length of juicy citrus acidity, all resolving on a cleansing, crysal clear, mouthwateringly dry finish.

From fruit picked off the middle and upper terraces of Marlborough's Blind River vineyard, the higher the blocks, the deeper the slope, as poorer soils toward the summit yield thinner crops for a Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc of amazing minerality. Marlborough's Blind River vineyard is auspiciously planted to a very special aspect of gentle slopes on sandy loams and clay over gravel subsoil, naturally free draining for good vine health but restricted vigor. Mission Estate is made from the higher blocks, from a harvest of low crop loads, left to hang out for extended ripeness and richness in the fruit. Parcels are crushed and permitted minimal skin contact, only the exclusively free run juices and light pressings are retained for ferment at cooler temperatures through the action Sauvignon Blanc specific yeasts. A rigorous selection includes the finest batches for assemblage into the completed wine.

Vineyards which produce fruit exhibiting the most exuberant regional expressions are located at the cooler western parts of Wairau Valley. The free draining soils and extended ripening conditions suit the style of Sauvignon Blanc which is Momo. Seresin Estate are very close to the land and soils which grow their fruit. Adherance to principles of environmental sustainability means organically grown, hand tended grapes, raised on a cornerstone of working in harmony with nature. The Sauvignon Blanc is picked in the late evening and early morning, at the close of the long Wairau Valley summer, to ensure the fruit comes to the winery cool. Minimal intervention allows the layers of flavour to evolve, the grapes are quickly pressed to capture the personality of the locality. The juice is fermented at a lower temperature, again to retain these characters, then allowed time sitting on yeast lees to give greater palate depth and complexity.
 
Bright yellow green hues. Aromas of citrus and spice, passionfruits, currant and lime, herbaceousness and a notes of chalky minerality. The palate is textural and rich, subtle notes of lemon zest and passionfruit, tropical fruits and cool ripening characters are supported by refreshing acidity before a lingering, crisp and dry finish. Delicious as a refreshing aperitif with all types of seafood and summer salads.

For a wine that relies on lifted, zesty fruit notes as this one does, the final assembly sits very close to perfect. Ribbon Vale's fruit produces a different style to that grown at neighbouring Moss Wood. Sauvignon Blanc brings major aromaticness to the wine, the Semillon component contributes heightened flavour profiles. Ribbon Vale is vibrant and juicy, pristine and finer than most variants of the blend. Flavour builds in the glass before a finish that is refreshingly crisp with zippy acidity and an aftertaste that's long and fruitful, dry and lingering.

All fruit is hand picked, grapes are destemmed and chilled, pressings are kept separate and cold settled for two days. Juices are racked off lees and warmed to 18âÂC for inoculation with pure yeast culture. Batches are fermented to dryness, racked and adjusted for acidity and sulphur dioxide. Components are assembled and filled to a selection of 225 litres French oak barriques. After three months of age, the oaking adds palate richness and a measure of exciting minerality which beautifully frames the greener nature of Sauvignon Blanc. All parts are rack and returned into the finished wine at the end of October, bentonite fined for protein stability and sterile filtered before bottled.
 
Light to medium straw hue. Lifted fruit aromas of gooseberry, passionfruit, lychee, lemon sherbet and cheddar cheese - very bright and fresh. A palate of some impact, crisp acidity, juicy lemon, passionfruit and gooseberry flavours, showing full body and very clean finish, sans astringency. Great texture, long flavours, clean and fresh without any phenolics.

Completely oak barrel fermented Sauvignon Blanc, in the style of the fashionable Californians who coined the term Fumé Blanc while in search of the ultimate, titillatingly, dry white elixir. A firm press of grapes for textural sauvage and phenolic grip, is followed by vinification at higher temperatures on gross solids for complexity and charm. Deeply oyster shelled bouquet, brimming with smoky florals, calico and bouquet garni, its juicily drying palate, resolving on a finish of crystaline jube, wet pebbles and savouriness of grilled smoky nuts.

Harvests of the finest Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc are treated to the most exacting regimens, a final quality control is applied at the blending stage to ensure that only the finest parcels are bottled under the Mount Riley label. A collation of several vineyards is assembled from the better viticultural precincts of Marlborough, the majority sourced from within Wairau Valley provides the distinctive Mount Riley style, a further component from Awatere Valley adds structure and complexity. Grapes are crushed and destemmed prior to pressing. Vinification is initiated in temperature controlled fermenters through the introduction of Mount Riley cultures, to preserve the lifted aromatics of Marlborough fruit. Alcohol 13.0%
 
Light yellow straw hue. The bouquet is powerfully aromatic with layers of tropical fruits, capsicum and racy gooseberries. Pungent capsicum, grapefruit and stonefruit aromas are complimented by clean cut grass and mineral notes. Auspiciously centred around the felicitious township of Bannockburn, an area of terrestrial and climactic extremes, Mt Difficulty are a co operatrive of Central Otago's most distinguished growers. Assembled from a compilation of parcels Sauvignon Blanc, picked off the Templars Hill, Mansons Farm and Saffron vineyards, a tenth of the wine is treated to ferments in pre loved oak barrels for a touch of Fumé Blanc. Redolent of lime, quince and pungent hay, four months weekly stirring on gross lees has added serious palate weight while infusing optimal varietal richness.

Parcels of fruit grown to the finest sites in Central Otago's Cromwell basin are hand harvested in top condition and processed in a reductive manner, juices settled overnight and racked clean the following morning. Inoculated and vinified at cooler temperatures to maximise varietal character. Essential to the character of wine is a diversity of terroirs and microclimes. The nature of soils being of particular interest, assembling parcels with the greatest synergy are central to the production of a Roaring Meg perfect balance.
