Lagavulin 16 Years Islay Malt 700ml
Lagavulin were established 1816, sharing their site with Kildalton Distillery which was founded the following year. They merged operations from 1837 until 1908, when the managers of Lagavulin decided to erect the Malt Mill Whiskyworks, after an altercation with neighbouring Laphroaig. The feud between the two rivals began when restless Peter Mackie headhunted and hired the Laphroaig Still Master. Lagavulin later came under control of White Horse which still includes an essential component of Lagavulin Malt to this day.

Bright red gold. A rich, sweet scent, sherry sweetness is quickly followed but the enduring Islay peat tang. After the opening burst of flavour comes a smooth fruit ripeness that complements the tang of salt in the background. The burst of peat that fills the mouth is quickly restrained by a sherry sweetness that slowly develops into spicy apple fruitiness. Very long and warming, lingering on the distinct tang of Islay.

In making Laphroaig, malted barley is dried over a peat fire, this intensely aromatic smoke, found only on Islay, gives Laphroaig its particularly rich flavour. There are three main ingredients for making Laphroaig, but the most essential influence are the people of Islay. Laphroaig is the story of a community. An uncompromising, tough and determined group of people who work to ensure that this defining whisky has always remained true to its origins. These origins can be found in Islay itself, its harsh climate and tough landscape have created a hardy people whose single mindedness and honesty is as distinctive as Laphroaig. You can sense two hundred years of loving care distilled into every bottle.

Dark honeyed hues. Pungent, earthy aroma of blue peat smoke, the sweet nuttiness of barley, the delicate heathery perfume of Islay's streams. Like the islanders it may seem a little aloof at first, but make the effort, broach acquaintance and we can guarantee you'll have a warm and genuine friend for life.
Laphroaig Quarter Cask Islay Malt 700ml
Laphroaig takes inspiration from the small casks used for Scotch Whisky in the 19th century and frequently transported across the Glens by packhorse. As the industry grew, they fell into disuse – bigger and more cost effective barrels became the norm, for maturation and transportation. However as single malt lovers may know, the relationship between the barrels and the maturing spirit is critical. Small cask size gives up to 30% greater contact with the wood, greatly intensifying the maturation process and enhancing the whisky.

Laphroaig has decided to recreate some of the Quarter Casks and the flavours they produce. Maturing Laphroaig Malts from larger style barrels are transferred into Quarter Casks. There then followed a further periods of maturation in Dunnage Warehouse No1. For greater authenticity, the whisky was barrier filtered, the method used in those far off days, and bottled at a higher alcoholic strength. The resultant Whisky is a surprise and delight. The additional oak influence creates a soft sweetness and velvety feel when first tasted, then the intense peatiness so unique to Laphroaig, comes bursting through. The finish is very long and alternates between the sweetness and the peat

Deep amber hues. Burning embers of peat in a crofters fireplace, sweet intense malt and lovely, refreshing citrus as well. Mouth-watering, mouth-filling and mouth-astounding: the perfect weight of the smoke has no problems filling every crevice of the palate, builds towards a sensationally sweet maltiness at the middle. Really long, and dries appropriately with smoke and spice.

Laphroaig Triple Wood Islay Malt 750ml
Laphroaig distillery has been an integral part of Islay's community for two centuries. While the full history of Laphroaig has been lost in the anals of time, folklore recounts a period of Irish settlement and distillation which was handed down to the locals. The earliest Islay Malts to be recorded were made in illegal pot stills and the small independent distillers were bootleggers. Through their isolation from the mainland and a rare combination of local ingredients, they refined a unique style which is recognized around the world as the distinctive Isle of Islay Malt.

Islay's history is a timeline which can be traced back to ancient communities. The granite hills behind Laphroaig are strewn with neolithic standing stones which were used to predict the seasons. The Johnston family established a farm here circa 1800 and contracted the Messrs Charles and Willie Doig to work on their distillery. By 1815, the success and reputation Laphroaig's exceptional quality of Malt had spread to Whitehall and the tax man had become alerted. Johnston & Johnston was founded in an attempt to legitimize the business and the legend of Laphroaig as a branded Islay Malt was born. The traditional distillation, ancient skill and absolute dedication to quality remains intact well into the 21st century.
