$2299each $275DOZEN EACH DOZEN Vineyards at Pizzini are researched and operated with a great emphasis placed on clonal management regimes and vine trellising. The aim is to strike better balance between number of vines per hectare, type of trellising, soil types and land aspect so that the vineyard is better able to produce quality fruit with a concentration of flavour. Vines are planted to the gentle undulating slopes of King Valley as well as the second terrace flats leading down to King River. The relationship between Merlot, climate and conditions of the vineyard are very complex, Pizzini have found the right combination and have honed their vines to produce a mouthfilling Tuscan style of Merlot.

Rich plum red in colour. The nose has lovely hints of plums and savoury spice, mulberries and anise with leather notes and earthy undertones, evolving fragrances of dried herbs and dark chocolate. The palate is soft, round and very generous. Tightly structured with good length on the back palate and a fleshy, juicy middle. A rich, round but firm tannin structure, good oak and finally, excellent length towards the finish.

Pizzini operate vineyards on the gently undulating slopes and terrace flats of King Valley which lead down to the river. Wine impresario Gary Crittenden was instrumental in assisting Alfred Pizzini to source their Sangiovese rootstock. Pizzini are all about showing the robust yet approachable side of Sangiovese, it's made for drinking day or night. The palate is classic Sangiovese in that it bursts to life with vibrant, crunchy cherry flavour and delivers just enough savoury tannin to get the appetite firing. Match it with fine Italian cuisine and piquant Asian faire.

$2799each $335DOZEN EACH DOZEN Alfred and Katrina Pizzini's vision was to establish a winery which can deliver fine Italian varietal wines within the context of King Valley. Sangiovese is one of the more tannic, firmly structured Italian red varietals. It has indeed found familiar surrounds and a happy new home in the elevated aspects of Victoria's King Valley. Since planting their first Sangiovese vines, Pizzini have introduced seven new clones to seven vineyards, which translates into better wines. Identifying unique sites which are favourable to Sangiovese and determining the specific clones to match the terroir are critical. Vines are trained to encourage the fruit to reach full physiological ripeness and flavour maturity with a balance of tannins.

Dark garnet red hue. Vibrant and fresh nose with lifted plums and spice, cherry and ripe red berries before herbal and savoury characters over delicate background oak. A smoky streak with bracken, woody spices and fresh, earthy complexity. The palate offers lovely chalky tannins that line the mouth with fresh, vibrant acidity. Persistent flavours of plum, spiced cherries and earthy tones continue to the lingering, clean and balanced finish.
