Myrtle Point Vineyard always yields an exceptional harvest, the smaller bunches and tightly packed berries of this exquisite patch however are something that's even more special. From a precious parcel of Pinot Noir, picked off an isolated block of cane pruned vine, the shallowest patch of soil in the vineyard, which keeps vine vigor low, bunch size down and berry size small. The grapes from this block have a high skin to must ratio, intense colour and intensity of concentration. Grapes are gently destemmed, a third are included as whole bunches, into open top fermenters, hand plunged twice daily to extract tannin structure and deep colour. Upon completion, batches are pressed into a selection of new and seasoned, Sirugue and Bossuet, Allier and Chatillon forest French oak barriques, for malolactic and a term of maturation, bottled unfiltered and fined. Alcohol 15.0%

Uncompromising standards of viticulture are at the heart of Myrtle Point, vines are all shoot thinned and trimming, a course of leaf plucking in the lead up to Christmas opens up the canopy and permits ample sunlight. Harvests of Pinot Noir are destemmed into open fermenters for vinification through the action of wild yeasts and cultured strains. A parcel is included as whole bunches for carbonic maceration. Batches are hand plunged two to three times daily until completion, followed by pressing into a combination of seasoned and new, Sirugue, Damy, St. Martin, Bossuet and Mercurey French oak barriques and hogsheads for maturation. Bottled unfiltered and unfined. Alcohol 13.4%

Lightfoot Sons Myrtle Point Rose
Gippsland
Myrtle Point Vineyard was established in the 1990s, after a soil mapping of the region identified tracts of precious Terra rosa over limestone substrate. The fortuitous soils are enhanced by the temperate growing seasons to form a mesoclime, very like the splendid terroirs of La Belle France. Ferments through the action of Rose specific yeast, retain the precociousness of Pinot Noir, just picked from the vineyard, while infusing into the blushing pink wine, fruity fragrances and a redolent, ripe berry palate.

Fashioned to piquant de Provence styling, grapes are gently destemmed and crushed by gravity through the press, treated to four hours cold soak for just the right amount of pigment without any uptake of heavy tannin. Batches are coolly fermented through the action of a Rosé specific yeast strain, followed by early bottling to retain the fresh vibrancy of pink Pinot Noir. Alcohol 12.9%

A vibrant, soundly structured palate in fresh and delicate Rose styling, elegant and delicious, lined with cool climate fruit characters before a crisp, drying finish. Pruning begins in earnest at Yering Station as the vineyard team take aim at providing optimal sunlight for the berries while limiting crop yields to produce a more intense wine. Parcels of Pinot Noir clones MV6 and 777 are selectively harvested and hand picked off mature vines up to fourteen years of age, planted to choice Yarra Valley sites. Fruit is sent to a mix of open and rotary fermenters and treated to a week or two of skin contact macerations before inoculation to cultured yeast type Lalvin BGY. Batches are fermented to dryness over the course of a week or two, followed by completion of malolactic and nine months maturation in a selection of seasoned and new 228 litres French oak barrels.

Bright, red cherry colour. Lifted perfume of violets and lavender, allspice intertwined with gamey, briary red and black cherry fruits. A soft and juicy palate exhibiting a lovely mix of elegant fruit, savoury spice and earthy undertones, a finely textural Pinot wine complimented by subtle vanillin oak and supported by supple tannins before a long and lingering, velvet lined finish. Match with rare duck breast, tuna escalopes or gruyere.
