The greater Marlborough region has two distinct mesoclimes which grow unique styles of Pinot Gris. Vines planted to good sites in Awatere Valley are stimulated by low rainfall and strong coastal winds, intense sunshine yet cool nights. Wairau Valley offers an abundance of sunshine, long autumns and crisp cool winters. Both yield harvests of world class white wine grapes. Drift take their pick of each, to create a wine with wonderful roundness of palate, a vibrant yet elegant expression of Marlborough, replete with the essential elements of Wairau and Awatere Pinot Gris.

$2899each $347DOZEN EACH DOZEN Parcels of Pinot Gris are separately harvested from fine vineyards in the Awatere and Wairau valleys. Fruit is crushed, chilled and lightly pressed, batches are cold settled and racked into fermenters, inoculated to choice yeasts and vinified at cool temperatures to retain optimal fruit character. Batches remain on lees for two weeks to add complexity and textural richness, before assembling into the finished wine, followed by stabilising and early to bottling to retain Marlborough vivaciousness.

Light peach yellow hue. Subtle aromas of tropical fruit, dried pears and sweet spice, complimented by hints of cinnamon and red apple. A lusciously full flavoured palate, brimming with apple and pear juice flavours over subtle lychee notes, almonds and and light spice, lingering at the finish with crisp flavours and refreshing acidity.

The cool nights and ample sunshine extend the ripening period, perfect for concentrating flavours and intensifying the aromatics. Grapes are carefully selected from splendid vineyards in the Wairau and Awatere Valleys. Grapes are immediately pressed with minimal skin contact to preserve the sensational complexity and funk of Marlborough Pinot Gris. Exhilarating and fresh, to serve slightly chilled alongside scallops and oysters, grilled fishes or soft wet cheese.

The ripe core of fruit from a vineyard just north of Murrumbateman Village at 630 metres above sea level on an ancient de-composed granite belt, running along both sides of Barton Highway. A propitious site for realizing yields of Pinot Gris with intensely lifted fruit characters and judiciously juicy acidity. Her striking coral pink hues precede a mouthfilling style of smashed strawberries, poached pear and soft white peach.

Mature Pinot Gris vines planted to alluvial gravel soils on Martinborough Terrace allow grapes to ripen wonderfully, yielding parcels of powerful, opulent fruit which are treated to barrel fermentation techniques for the creation of a rich, French inspired Pinot Gris. A faithful expression of Martinborough's unique terrior, the touch of residual sugar has enhanced the distinct fruit characters for which Pinot Gris is so renowned. Complete malolactic and lees stirring has enhanced the texture and mouthfeel allowing the juicy palate to match most entree dishes.

$2999each $359DOZEN EACH DOZEN Escarpment aim to produce the very best of tomorrow's definitive new world wines. Complexity, texture and structure are key words and motivators. Escarpment was established in 1999 as a joint business venture between Village Roadshow's Robert and Mem Kirby with Larry and Sue McKenna. Situated just 5 kilometres east of Martinborough village, twenty four hectares of distinctive alluvial gravel, terraced land stretches out along the banks of the Huangarua River. Pinot Blanc and Pinot Gris represent a substantial proportion of the white grape selection. While the majority of these grapes are grown on site, Escarpment also sources components of Pinot Gris from the local Station Bush property.

Light apricot hue. Bouquet of florals, nuttyness and ripe, complex fruit. A palate of ripe pears and white nectarine, long, textural and delightfully soft texture before a lingering and memorable, commanding finish. Inspired by the lush fruitiness of the Italian classic Moscato d'Asti, Gapsted is a blend in name and in style, of the piquant Traminer Musque grape and the wickedly luscious Frontignac Muscato bianco. Traminer is sourced from Whitlands Vineyard, grown to the higher, elevated aspects of Valley King, picked early to retain freshness and lively fruit character. This slightly spritzy Moscato drinks well on its own but also suits a range of lighter desserts such as pannacotta or soft cheese, dried fruits or peach almond recipes.

$1999each $239DOZEN EACH DOZEN The Gapsted team live and work in the heart of the King and Alpine Valleys of Victoria’s high country. The vibrant Alpine fruit characters of Traminer are a result of cool breezes and snow run off in spring, which provides abundant clear, fresh water to the Whitlands vineyard. The cool ripening conditions prevent high levels of transpiration, allowing the Traminer to retain natural acids, sugars and lifted fruit flavours. A very slow, and cold controlled ferment at seven degrees for five weeks, ensured retains fresh crisp varietal characters. Fermentation is stopped at six degrees of baume by chilling the wine and fining. Some naturally occurring CO2 is retained in the wine for a light frizzante style. Alcohol 6.5%

Bright pale straw hues. Exotic florals with hints of middle eastern spice, aromas of rose petal and spicey musk, pears and turkish delight. The palate is alive with fresh peaches and grape, an intensely flavoured wine with florals and five spice, generous and poised. Sweet but not cloying, light fizz tickles the palate and finishes refreshingly clean, with a superb lingering fruit finish. A match to fine cheeses, fresh fruit and your favourite desserts.
