Bleasdale have taken their pick of fruit from the finest vineyards planted to loamy, low fertility sands which are ideal for Pinot Gris. After a quick trek back to the Bleasdale wineworks, fruit is treated to a prompt vinification and early bottling to retain the vitally luminous expression of Adelaide Hills Pinot Gris.

$2099each $251DOZEN EACH DOZEN Bleasdale have been central to Langhorne Creek viticulture for a century and a half, but the estate's association with Adelaide dates back to 1836 when migrant Frank Potts began colonial life as a boat builder. Parcels of Pinot Gris, picked by hand off good Adelaide Hills vineyards, are selected by Bleasdale on the basis of vine maturity and fruit ripeness, consistency of quality and good character. Grapes are whole bunch pressed into a combination of fermenters and seasoned French oak puncheons for a brisk vinification and course of lees stirring battonage, followed by a brief spell of maturation. A timely bottling captures and locks in all the fresh, brightly lit, pear and spice characters of Pinot Gris.

Pale light straw hue. Nutty spice and dainty orange blossom nose over supple hints of barrel ferment, lemon, apples and pear. A well rounded palate, generous with stonefruit flavours while exhibiting fine balance between green vegetable characters, ripeness and crisp acidity. The delicate Bleasdale shows all the spice and perfume expected of slowly ripened Pinot Gris. A stylish aperitif alongside nibbles and oysters, a very good match to poultry and rice vermicelli.

A fresh and crisp wine, minimally handled, permitting the Margaret River fruit to speak, framed by a judicious influence of leesyness and oak.

The highly favourable mesoclimes are further tempered by prevailing winds from the Indian Ocean which deliver excellent ripening conditions throughout the growing season. Hand picked throughout the cool of early morning, whole bunches are treated to a gentle press for extraction of the purest free run juices. The inclusion of light solids in the ferments contributes texture, aromaticness and complexity. After several months ageing on yeast lees, components are assembled and bottled unfined.

Brilliant pale straw with a light green hue. Ripe aromas of lychee and pear, paw paw and apple gala, mango and tropical fruits. Time spent on yeast lees has added white bread notes, barrel ferments in large format French oak has infused luxurious complexities. A richly flavoured palate brimming with lychee and pear, ripe apples and stonefruit, which continue on to a long, dry and refreshing finish.

The historic goldfields at Beechworth are now delivering a different type of gold, in the form of suave white wines with panache and style. Pinot Gris has taken well to the cooler climes and mineral rich soils atop the steeply sloped aspects. The Indigo property is the most prominent vineyard in the area, trained for decades by local growers to yield vintages of the finest fruit. Brokenwood have taken the pick of crop, fashioned into the essential accompaniement for all fresh and evocative fare, white meat recipes, tapas and terrines.

Parcels harvested off Indigo Vineyard are crushed, drained and chilled for a term of term of cold soak, as the juices are transported back to the Brokenwood wineworks in Pokolbin. Batches are filled to fermenters, a smaller parcel is treated to oak barrel for a course of vinification, upon completion, components are racked for assemblage into the finished wine.

Pinot Gris is sourced from Ants Nest Vineyard, high up on a ridge overlooking Marlborough's Waihopai Valley, where Catalina Sounds have taken a very hands on role to husbanding vines. The team are devoted to fashioning highly expressive wines that stand the test of being fully approachable when young, whilst carrying the palate weight and quality of fruit to mate with fine faire and develop in the short term. Catalina Sounds exudes bright varietal characters of peaches and nut with the distinctive luscious lychee expression of Marlborough.

Winemaking tis non interventional, the fruit must be allowed to express itself. The wines are meant to be food friendly and unpretentious. Pinot Gris vines are grown to clay soils rooted on the ridge line, they impart minerality, fruit density and finesse to the structure. Grapes are predominantly hand harvested and whole bunch pressed. A variety of fermentation techniques were employed, some parcels are quickly vinified at warm temperatures in oak puncheons in order to build a savoury profile. Others are held in chilled fermenters to preserve aromatics while building richness.

Goldish lemon hue. Lifted honey and pear, apricot and orange blossom aromas. Rich, full and luscious palate with honey, lemon and poached pear syrup characters that coat the mouth. The tang of citrus sorbet accompanies the fruit, it's a wonderfully complex wine, yet easy to appreciate. The palate is rich yet supple, combining tastes of pear and apricot with a clean and dry finish.

A seamless single vineyard co ferment of three wonderously perfumed whites, a third each of Riesling, Traminer and the abstruse Kerner Weißer Herold, a bespoke Riesling Trollinger hybrid. There are few places with the exceptional excellence of terroir to sire such a graceful bouquet of aromatic varietals. The eminent Fechner brothers block at Moculta is fortuitously mineral rich, gently strewn with marble and chalk shards for the infusement of grapes with lively lychee and fragrant florals. Its marvelously poised and elegant structure, lustrous with minerality and lingering with honeysuckle hazel delights.
