145 - 156 of 231 South Australian Old Vine
Pewsey Vale 1961 Block Riesling
Eden Valley
Available in cartons of six
The Pewsey Vale property was first planted to Riesling by Joseph Gilbert in 1847. The site was later purchased by well known grazier Geoff Angas Parsons, who in 1961 invited his friend Wyndham Hill Smith to jointly develop the historic vineyard. They believed the site could produce delicate Rieslings in the Germanic style. High in the Eden Valley's low fertility, grey and sandy loam soils, a prolonged ripening late into the cool autumn season develops recognizably consistent flavour profiles, today known as classic Pewsey Vale.

Over a century and a half of wines have flowed from the superlative Pewsey Vale vineyard. From a clone planted in the Eden Valley during the 1800s, traceable to some of the original vine cuttings brought into Australia by James Busby. Any new plantings are propagated from the original vines. Pewsey Vale is not an easy vineyard to manage. Lean and hungry soils which limit the vigour of the vines, the high altitude and the vineyard's specific microclimate have necessitated the adoption of specialised viticultural management. The property itself is an idyll of gently undulating hills, fifty hectares of which are under vine, nestled close to Pewsey Vale Peak, just west of Eden Valley town centre.

Pale straw, green hues. Intense fruit aromas of talcum, crushed stone and lemon lime fruit with a hint of overlaying dried herb. The palate shows great length and depth with lime, a hint of white flowers and fresh rosemary, finishing with a fresh natural acidity that balances the intensity and minerality. Flavours evolve elegantly, toast, orange blossom and honey can be expected, while retaining the classic fresh citrus lift and palate weight of Pewsey Vale.
Pirathon Gold Shiraz
Barossa
Available in cartons of six
The five most most exclusive parcels of old vine Shiraz, a secret component of the Barossa's most memorable vintages, hand picked off the De Fazio and Hillview vineyards at Belvidere and Moppa. Batches are crushed into traditional open top fermenters for a week of pumpovers, gently pressed into an extravagantly high proportion of new French oak hogsheads for two years maturation, followed by the final assemblage, unfiltered and unfined. Magenta black, powerful and intense, bramble berries and savoury cedar oak, licorice and dried fig, a mere two hundred cases are made.

In 1892 Alexander Johnston purchased ninety seven hectares of rich farmland southeast of the fledgling village at McLaren Vale. Today, Pirramimma's mature vineyards consistently yield the region's finest Cabernet. The comerstone philosophy is to produce estate wines from home grown fruit, ensuring that the highest quality standards are met. Harvested from vines grown on original root stock, grapes are picked throughout the cool of night from the Pethick Road block, a well balanced terroir planted in 1967. Primary fermentation in the original Pirramimma concrete vats is followed by twenty four months in a selection of new and prior use American and French oak barrels.

Deep black/ brick red colour. Lifted blackcurrants, violets and mint dominate the bouquet, bramble notes and hints of mocha oak. The palate shows intense briar and blackberry, red currant and black cherry flavours over hints of quince and structured, toasty oak. A lingering, currant and blackberry filled finish, on a length of malleable, licorice tannins. Match to the finest beef or gourmandise game.
Pirramimma White Label Old Bush Vine Grenache
McLaren Vale
Available in cartons of six
The most exquisite bunches of McLaren Vale Grenache are selectively hand picked off dry grown vines planted to Pirramimma's oldest productive site, the famous Prisoner of War block planted in 1944. A further component, picked off Pirramimma's Katunga block, established 1968, contributes complexity, structure and depth. The assembled wine displays an elegantly perfumed nose of cherry, rose petal and chocolate spice, while the palate is laden with sweet spicy raspberry, fruit cake and black plum flavours, enhanced by savoury subtle oak.

Grenache has taken very well to the balmy Mediterranean climes of McLaren Vale. Hand picked grapes are crushed and treated to a traditional vinification in the Pirramimma property's original open concrete vats. Following a course of daily pumpovers to extract optimal flavours, colour and tannin, the completed ferments are drained and the must is passed through a tradional hand operated basket press, returned and moved to a selection of American oak barriques for an extended maturation of two to three years. A selection of older oak mellows and integrates the tannin and fruit character while maintaining the distinctive personality and charm of dry grown McLaren Vale Grenache.

A deep red velvet taffetta colour. Violets, black currant and black fruit perfumes, animate cedar characters and hints of strawberry behind pepper and raspberry notes. A palate of festive pudding, parched red berries and bramble, toffee apple and prunes over supportive hickory oak and gritty, old world tannins. A delicious drink for all enthusiasts of the Aussie Rhone style of red wine, showing fruit, oak and fine grain tannins in complete harmony.

Reillys Old Bushvine Grenache
Clare Valley
Available in cartons of six
Gratefully Grenache driven, delicately open fermented and gently basket pressed, vinified exclusively from fruit grown to vines planted in 1919 by a returned serviceman, who'd been granted the property as part of an ANZAC resettlement scheme. Being bushvines, they grow low to the ground and are untrellissed. Grapes are all hand picked, as modern harvesters cannot collect the fruit, ensuring inclusion of nothing but the highest quality berries.

In 1856, an Irish cobbler named Hugh Reilly arrived in the tiny Clare Valley township of Mintaro. Over the next ten years, Hugh converted the stone barn that had been his home into a cottage. Reilly's Cottage served as the local Cobbler's Shop at the centre of the bustling town, which had boomed with the discovery of slate in the area. Almost 140 years later, the cottage has been restored to its former glory, the home to Reilly Wines. The Grenache vines are ninety years of age, dry grown and cropped at 1.5T/acre. Parcels are inoculated to yeast strain AWRI 796 and treated to an open fermentation for ten days, followed by up to two years maturation in a combination of French and American oak hogsheads.

Deep dark red/ purple colour. Aromas of spicey blueberry and nutella, chocolateyness and violet, hints of ribena and mint. The palate is remarkably satisfying, with never a dissenter to this lovely wine, it pleases all comers. Serve with beef pot pie, olive and wild mushrooms.
