Jim Barry seized the opportunity to acquire the heritage Penola cricket ground in 1950. The original pavilion was retained and vines were established around the cricket pitch. It endures as the spiritual home of the most memorable Coonawarra vintages. Tiny Coonwarrra is the source of Cabernet wines which are now generally recognised as being amongst the greatest in the world. The hidden geological treasure of porous limestone under the rich terra rossa soil creates the ideal cellar by storing water for later use. By virtue of these gifts from the earth, winemakers can place a distinctive signature on their Cabernet wine. The efforts of the Barry family have paid dividends, their Coonawarra property yields a wine of rare virtue. Small batch winemaking techniques are employed to create an icon Cabernet Sauvignon, full bodied and concentrated with profound structure. Extended maturation in a high selection of new French and American oak barriques.
 
Deep crimson ruby colour. Aromas of blackcurrant and cassis, cedar and cigar box, rosemary and sage. An abundance of red and purple fruits on the palate, blueberries, mulberry, cinnamon and clove. Fine grained, gravelly tannins, balanced with natural acidity, a lingering liquorice, cherry filled finish. A profound experience alongside succulent lamb recipes or Wagyu beef.

His legacy of superlative editions Cabernet Sauvignon endures, the finest of vintage from the Jim Barry Coonawarra estate vineyard at Kirribilli. Beautifully poised, lifted floral perfumes to start, blackberry briars and cassis, a measure of earthiness and forest floor complexity, a palate of magnificent breadth and length, the terra rosa savouryness and dark cherry tannins in support, as the fruit continues to ripen and bloom.

Excellent Langtons Classification. The consumate Cabernet, one of Australia's icon wines. John Riddoch brewed up Coonawarra's second vintage in 1896 under a woolshed which now ages barrels of Katnook Cabernet. The original Coonawarra Fruit Colony itself was headquartered in a limestone building which now serves as cellar door. Vines have been trained over the course of decades to extract maximum flavour from the long slow Coonawarra ripening, achieving harvests of Cabernet with ripe generous flavours and fine lingering tannins.

Coonawarra produces Cabernet wines with attractive ripe fruit flavours, generous palate structures and soft tannins. Katnook is home of the finest Coonawarra Cabernet, its vineyards, planted to prime Terra Rossa soils comprise two hundred hectares at the heart of this comparatively small and remote region, affording Katnook full licence to collate and assemble parcels of the finest fruit. Batch vinification takes place in closed static fermenters with regular pumping over. Upon completion, parcels are macerated for a week or two before transfer into a selection of seasoned and new 225 litre French and American oak barrels for thirteen months maturation. Alcohol 13.5%
 
Deep, dark plum colour, purple robes. Complex array of ripe fruit and sweet oak aromas, dark plums and blackberry, mulberry and cassis combine with subtle sweet vanillin and notes of chocolaty oak. A richly layered palate of dark berry fruits, black currants highlight the generous palate structure, combined with subtle sweet oak flavours and rich chocolaty notes. Fine lingering tannins complement the rich fruit flavours.

In 1890 John Riddoch established his Coonawarra Fruit Colony on a property called Katnook, one of Australia's great viticultural districts was born. Founder's Block is a natural progression for Katnook. The wines are genuinely focused on contemporary palates and lifestyle, honest, fruit driven and harmonious. Founder's Block may be for some, an introduction to Katnook Estate, they are also for many Katnook's devotees, their informal drinking wines. Parcels of Cabernet grapes are vinified into an approachable young wine, brimming with Coonawarra character. Finished with minimal oak, a component is aged in a selection of seasoned French and American oak barriques.
 
Deep ruby red, purple hues. An intense nose of blackcurrant and red fruits with lifted mint characters. A small amount of oak maturation lends deft notes of toast and sweet spice to the bouquet. The well structured palate expresses sweet berry fruit and light oak flavours. Ripe dark berries, plum and dusty mulberry characters abound with a hint of regional mint highlighting the lush palate flavours. Fine grained soft tannins add to the attractive lingering fruit.

Outstanding Langtons Classification. John Riddoch founded the historic Coonawarra Fruit Colony at Katnook in 1890. Odyssey was first released in 1996 to celebrate the centenary of Katnook's first vintage under an ancient Coonawarra woolshed. Much of Odyssey's fruit can be traced back to the original sites established by Riddoch over a century ago. The brilliance of its appearance in the glass, identifies the splendour of Odyssey, an abundance of fruit, luxury oak and substantive palate, make it a wine of the highest peerage.

Odyssey is made from small parcels of the most superior Cabernet Sauvignon, sourced from the oldest and most precious Katnook vineyards, hand chosen for their consistent yields of the finest Coonawarra fruit. The grapes from this elite coterie of harvests, are characterized by an intensity of flavour and refined tannins. Following a small batch vinification, Odyssey is treated to a regimen of extended barrel ageings to achieve a seamless integration of oak, tannin and fruit. The first term of fifteen months in mostly new French and American 225L oak barriques, is followed by a second extravagant thirty months maturation in a selection of mostly new, French and American 225L oak barriques.
 
Deep plum red, almost black. A complex and richly layered array of ripe fruit perfumes, dusty plum and mulberry, black olives, vanilla bean and chocolate mocha oak. A profusion of rich fruit flavours to the palate, black bramble and loganberries, ripe dark berries, red currants and spiced plums over a sound structure of sweet oak maturation characters, driven to a powerful, everlasting finish.

Cabernet Sauvignon has been the flagship of Leconfield since the first monumental release in 1977. The aim is to produce a Cabernet wine displaying depth and elegance where oak complexes and enhances the fruit but is not allowed to dominate. Following inoculation to saccharomyces cerevisiae, some components are treated to barrel ferments in predominantly French oak, the balance is held for an extended skin maceration before pressing, achieving the well established statuesque Leconfield style. Following completion of malolactic and a period of exposure to lees in barrel, Leconfield is treated to a year and a half in a high proportion of new French and American oak hogsheads.
 
Deep red, crimson hues. Augmenting the elegant cassis and blackberry fruit aromas, are scented cinnamon, nutmeg and cedar notes. Fine, medium bodied palate, showing the cassis flavours of traditional Coonawarra Cabernet. Fine velvety tannins balance the textured sweetness of fruit. A tight clean finish, approachable as a youthful wine, the elegance will complement continental inspired recipes.
Leconfield Sydney Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon

Sydney Hamilton was a highly accomplished oenologist who established the Leconfield brand in 1974, at the ripe old age of 76. His commemorative label is crafted from the top cut of Cabernet Sauvignon, hand picked off the original estate plantings, vinified in Sydney's favourite old fermenter, finished in a luxurious selection of completely new Dargaud Jaeglé French oak hogsheads and aged an extravagant twenty nine months. Dominated by opaque winegum, black cherries and cassis, draped in a robe of satin tannins, Coonawarra Cabernet of the highest order.

Majella Cabernet Sauvignon

Excellent Langtons Classification. One of the Coonawarra's most feted marques in Cabernet Sauvignon. The Majella property was originally acquired for the purpose of grazing lamb. Eric Brand of neighbouring Laira Vineyard offered to buy fruit from Majella if the land was turned over to Cabernet. The site was planted in 1968, much of the vintages that followed went to Wynn's, but it was not until 1993 that Majella vinified and bottled its own estate labelled wine. The inaugural release was enthusiastically received and Majella have never looked back.

The Lynns have lived at Penola for over four generations, a merchant family, they ventured into grazing. They met with success for their prize Merinos before extending the operations to raising lamb on a piece of choice Coonawarra terroir. Viticulture was the last thing on their minds. The site is now one of the most precious Cabernet vineyards in Coonawarra. Grapes are harvested and brought to the Majella estate wineworks. Fruit is treated to a cool fermentation over the course of several days before transfer to a selection of 300 litres French oak hogsheads for completion of primary ferments, a course of full malolactic and an extended maturation of eighteen months.
 
Deep, magenta colour. Cherries, choc mint and blackberries, hints of eucalyptus and vanillin oak. Fruit on the attack, structured with layers of flavour, an elegant, medium bodied style. Rich with ripe dark fruits and well weighted, grainy tannins. As ever the finish is long and lingering, a Coonawarra Cabernet of substance and style that will stand the test of time. Varietal definition is its strong point, the tannins are refined, brains, beauty and style, it's a real winner.

Mr Riggs comes to Coonawarra. He knows from good red wines after tours of duty amongst the illustrious Cabernet vineyards of Napa Valley and Bordeaux. He now takes his pick from the choicest sites in the land. A collation of parcels from the Thomas and Harrison Weatherall vineyards in the northern precincts of Coonawarra, fermented on skins and pressed to a selection of new and seasoned oaks. Intensely bright, floral and fragrant with lovely length on the palate, the Cabernet of choice to accompany char grill or juicy roast.

The Parker Estate Vineyards at the southern end of Coonawarra, were established 1985 on rich Terra Rosa over limestone soils. Parker have achieved a remarkable reputation within Australia and throughout the world of wine, wherever great vintages are revered for their integrity and continuity of excellence. Commercial constraints played no part in the development. John Parker was driven by a passion to create the First Growth of Coonawarra Cabernet.
