A mostly Old Vines Grenache, redolent with lifted aromatics and dulcet fruit flavours over a length of refined, sandy tannins. Shiraz contributes red berries, spices and palate weight, Touriga brings pungency, plum pudding, dried herb and floral notes. Mataro adds textural tannin structure and the perfumes of Provence. SC Pannell GSTM is so much more than the sum of parts, a complex and edifying old world recipe of grapes, fashioned to a style which will enthuse and delight all true red wine zealouts.

$3299each $395DOZEN EACH DOZEN A rich McLaren Vale cépage, two thirds Grenache, a fifth of Shiraz, the balance in Touriga and Mataro. All parcels are hand harvested, crushed and traditionally vinified in small open top vessels to optimise flavour, colour and tannin extraction. Temperatures are kept between 15C and 35° over the course of a fortnight, as fermenting caps are treated to a course of hand plunging and pumpovers. Upon completion of ferments and malolactic, batches are transferred to a selection of well seasoned 500L French oak puncheons for several months of age.

Dark ruby colour. Lifted fruit notes of cranberry and cherries, interwoven with lovely dried spice, cumin, lavender and graphite. A highly flavoursome, medium bodied wine, its silky palate of ripe berry, dark olive and sweet fruit flavours is supported by a fine length of integrated tannins, culminating on a balanced, lingering finish. A splendid synergy with good food.

Rioja Alavesa lies to the south of Basque country, not too far from the famous running of bulls at Pamplona and an easy drive from Bay of Biscay. Bodegas Solar Viejo are at the heart of Denominacio d'Origen Qualificada Rioja, very near the place where Celtic Iberians settled over three millenia ago. The area is full of history and folklore, gastronomy and good wine. The team at Bodegas Solar Viejo have maintained a strong relationship with local wine growers for generations, reserving the pick of crop for Crianza Temparanillo.

$3199each $383DOZEN EACH DOZEN The Tempranillo of Rioja Alavesa are enjoyed throughout the world. The quality of Rioja Alavesa Tempranillo is due for the most part to a fortuitous confluence of terroir and clime, clay calcareous soils, a highly favourable semi dry growing season and protection from north winds by the Sierra de Cantabria. Bodegas Solar Viejo was established 1937 within the medieval town of Laguardia. Tempranillo wines share a long history with the ancient hamlet and almost all the town's buildings have their own underground wine cellars. It is here that old world winemaking traditions meet state of the art oenology, translating into a perfectly integrated Tempranillo wine, after a term of ageing in a selection of seasoned oak barrels.

Deep garnet red. An engaging nose of complex red fruit aromas, tomato and five spice before notes of vanilla and caramel oak. A soft palate showing Tempranillo liquorice characters, followed by fine fruit flavours and light balsamic notes. The tannins are balanced and fine, supported by ripe dark berry acidity, the finish is elegantly oaked. To accompany hard cheese, casserole or barbecued meats.

A unique but decidedly Aussie cépage of Eden Valley Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz, fortified by the inclusion of Barossa Tempranillo. Len Pumpa was a grower of Prussian descent, he persevered throughout the lean years of Australian viticulture, at a time when table wines were unfashionable and grape growing was an unviable labour of love. The wonderful endowment of grand old vineyards now managed by Sons of Eden, are due in large part to the selfless toil of Pumpa and his devotion to the vine.

$2399each $287DOZEN EACH DOZEN A collation of hand harvested fruit, picked at complete physiological ripeness, the Shiraz off vines over fifty years of age, grown to splendid sites at Moculta and various altitudes on Valley Eden, a component of Tempranillo from Light Pass in Barossa contributes backbone and complexity. Bunches are destemmed into small one and two tonnes fermenters, treated to a regimen of hand plunging and pumpovers. Vinified to dryness and treated to several days maceration, batches are pressed off into a selection of seasoned and new French and American oak hogsheads, for fifteen months maturation and the final assemblage, clarified through rackings and bottled without fining or filtration.

Bright scarlet colour. Lifted red cherry nose, pepper and plums, strawberries, leather and spicy cassis notes. A soft velvety palate, textural, layered with great length of flavour, black fruits and morello cherries are seasoned by tomato leaf savouryness, supported by fine, pliant tannins and framed by a trim of warming, spicebox oak.

A complex Rhone-style expressing the profound characteristics delivered from great old vine vineyards. Low yielding and hand tended, they deliver a quality of fruit that's worthy of the old world's most prestigious growths. A rich and effusive cépage of Mataro and Grenache, Shiraz, Carignan and Cinsault are matured in selection of large format 500 to to 3000 litres French oak barrels to develop a complex vinous flavour base while preserving fruit freshness, enhance the exciting varietal complexity and preserve the vital tannin edge.

$3399each $407DOZEN EACH DOZEN The majority of Shiraz comes from high country vineyards near the Barossa foothills and the Eden Valley. Mataro and Grenache, Carignan and Cinsault are sourced from warmer, lower altitude sites on the Barossa floor. It's the lighter textured quartz and sandy topsoils that produce more perfumed, delicate aromatics and give finesse. Some grapes are off vines as old as sixty years, most Grenache is about thirty years, while some of the Shiraz and Mataro can be from vines that are well over a century old. Winemaker Peter Schell is isolating the finest parcels in the Barossa and Eden Valleys, getting a handle on these old blocks and their different characteristics, capturing and preserving what they have to offer.

Bright, dark scarlet hue. An appealing and intriguing aromatic spectrum that includes fresh red fruits, cherries, raspberry and plum skin over savoury secondary characters, fresh earth, roasted nuts and herb. A lovely subtlety and complexity on the fresh and lively palate, plum skins and red currant, smoke and dried herb, mineral notes line the palate. Savoury secondaryness on the finish, drying tannins make Esprit a classic wine for the table.
