Amisfield Pinot Noir
Central Otago
Available in cartons of six

Amisfield RKV Reserve Pinot Noir
Central Otago
Available in cartons of six

Grapes are all hand picked, some whole bunches are included and a component of the wine begins its ferment amongst the vines. A month of cold macerations and natural indigenous yeast vinification is followed by a gentle press into a selection of seasoned and new French oak barriques for completion of malolactic, a judicious term of age, rack and return, before bottling, unfiltered and unfined.

Deep dark beetrot red. Complex bouquets, layers of dark berries and red fruit intertwine with delicate spice. The palate exhibits marvelous power and restraint, a lineal backbone of vibrant acidity in support of a broad mouthfilling, textural canopy of savoury varietal fruits, fine black velvet tannins in support, simply an action packed palate before a lengthy, undulating finish.

The Badia a Passignano vineyards near Sambuca Val di Pesa are planted to the best Sangiovese clones taken from very old vineyards at Tignanello. After destemming and a soft crush, grapes are treated to a maceration where indigenous yeasts activate fermentation. After a delicate pumpover and delestage, the fermented must remains on skins for a fortnight. At the end of year, batches spontaneously complete malolactic in a selection of new and seasoned French and Hungarian oak barriques. Component wines are then assembled and returned to barriques for a year's ageing. Barrels are then sampled before the finest are bottled under the Badia di Passignano label and aged for a further year.

Intense ruby red color. Scents of red fruit, licorice and ripe blackberries. The palate is well balanced and complex with good acidity and elegant fruit flavours. A highly stylish wine, palate filling with smooth tannins and distinctive flavours before a long, lingering finish. Well rounded, exhibiting the characteristic integrity of the region.

After destemming the parcels of grapes and a gentle press, the musts are gently moved to fermenters for maceration. A regimen of pumpovers and delestage is employed throughout the vinification. Sangiovese maintains contact with skins for approximately twelve days, Cabernet for a little over two weeks. By the end of year, batches are treated to a spontaneous malolactic in a selection of 225 litres, second and third use oak barriques, followed by fourteen months maturation in small oak barrels. The great potential of the young components is determined through a barrel by barrel sampling to assemble the final wine, bottled and aged for another year before release.
