Jim Barry Armagh Shiraz
Clare Valley
Outstanding Langtons Classification. Armagh is amongst the most venerated locations in Ireland. St Patrick built his stone church there on a site where a cathedral still stands. From fruit grown exclusively to one of Australia's most distinguished vineyards, named after the adjoining hamlet of Armagh, yielding less than two tonnes per acre. Armagh Shiraz has achieved extraordinary success and is regarded as one of Australia's great wines. Such is The Armagh site's suitability that minimal intervention is needed to produce rich and concentrated fruit of the rarest qualities. The contour planted, northwest facing vines are planted to grey sands over clay subsoil, is suitably dry farmed. Grapes are all hand picked and vinified in open top fermenters, treated to rack returns and pumpovers, followed by eighteen months in French and American oak and a year or two of bottle age.

Impenetrable, inky crimson colour. Elegant, brooding aromas, highly complex, cranberries and mulberry, boysenberry and mint, underlying rosemary and sage, cinnamon, cedar and black pepper. Firm tannin structure in support of red currant flavours, black cherries and blueberry over a background of truffles and turned earth. The length of flavour and power, while showing restraint and finesse, are what really set Armagh at the zenith of Shiraz.

Jim Barry Lodge Hill Shiraz
Clare Valley
Available in cartons of six
When Jim Barry first purchased the Lodge Hill property, his intention was to devote the entire area to white grapes. While Jim was conducting a soil analysis, he recognised his good fortune, discovering a very different profile on a small north facing slope. Warmer than the rest of the property, Jim decided it was the perfect place for premium Shiraz vines. His foresight lead to great triumph just before his passing, when Lodge Hill was awarded Best International Shiraz at the prestigious International Wine Challenge in London.

Jim Barry Wines draws some of the Clare Valley's most excellent Shiraz fruit from an august repertoire of mature vineyards. Lodge Hill itself is something quite special. It isn't just the climate and aspect that distinguishes this vineyard, terroir plays a major role. The soils here consist of forty to fifty centimetres of rich, chocolatey loam over almost vertically inclined rock sheets. The growing season is usually quite dry, but the fortuitous layout and composition of the site makes the vines resilient, yielding lavish Shiraz grapes with good flavours and varietal intensity. Following harvest and vinification, Lodge Hill is matured for a year or more in a combination of American and French oak barrels.

Deep, dark red/ black hues. Lifted aromas of mulberries and raspberry, coffee and kirsch. Mouthfilling flavours of bramble and chocolates, menthol and rosemary. A fine stuctural wine with delicate, sensual and ripe tannins. A wine that is ready for immediate enjoyment, the long, juicy finish, lingering and persistent, makes Lodge Hill highly suited to full flavoured red meat dishes such as ribeye or kangaroo.
