The finest grapes are selected from a single elevated block within the vineyard, grown to tough ironstone based soil types. Fruit is inoculated and vinified in traditional fermenters, followed by two years maturation in a selection of new and seasoned, exclusively French oak hogsheads. A mere few hundred dozen are produced annually. Decant before service to remove harmless crust.

Deep red colour, purple hues. Concentrated dark cherries, soft leather and shoe polish, all in a very good way, smoky, slightly charry oak. Coffee beans, chocolates and leather, cigar leaf notes over soft tannins, structured with refined acidity and exquisite balance. Dry finish and excellent length, an outstanding expression of McLaren Vale which lives and breathes to be mated alongside fine cuisine.

Against a backdrop of historic winery buildings and ancient vines, watered by a crystal clear spring fed stream called Honeysuckle Creek, the Taylor family handcraft one of Australia's most eminent Cabernet wines. Since 1892, St. Andrews Terra rossa soils have produced wines of rare excellence, the original winery still stands today. Grapes are harvested from Blocks A60, A70 and A10 of the St Andrews Vineyard, quickly and gently de-stemmed, keeping berries intact. Following a cold soak and fermentation, St Andrew is pressed to a high proportion of new prestige French oak barrels for completion of malolactic, rack and returned for eighteen months maturation.

Dark red with a faint brick red hue to the edge. Bold lifted varietal aromas of cassis, ripe black cherry and aniseed. These are matched with lashings of chocolate, cedar and cinnamon from the French oak maturation. A concentrated wine with a fleshy palate and vibrant fruit flavours of cassis and blackcurrant. Generous and beautifully ripened yet retains the poise and elegance of great Cabernet Sauvignon.
Teusner Albert Shiraz
Barossa
Available in cases of 6
Albert is the namesake of Teusner's grandfather, commemorated for his tireless hard work and commitment. Grapes are crushed into open fermenters and treated to a regimen of twice daily pumpovers before heading to a selection of new and seasoned French oak barrels for eighteen months maturation. Treated to a painstaking vinification technique, portions of the active juices are taken off daily to ferment in new French oak barrels which are used to mature the finished wine. After twelve hours, juices are returned to the ferment and replaced by a fresh batch, allowing better integration of new oak into the wine. Upon completion, barrels are classified and the final wine is determined, components are assembled and returned to barrel for a further term of integration before bottling without fining or filtration.

A very deep colour reflects the intensity of wine. Concentrated, opulent aromas of blackberry, satsuma plum, black cherry and cassis burst from the glass. Soft, supple and velvety tannins in support of dark chocolate, licorice and polished leather. Intense but showing great tension between the ripe fruit, melt in the mouth tannins and bright acidity, Albert finishes with great length and aplomb.
Teusner Avatar Grenache Shiraz Mataro
Barossa
Available in cartons of six
Half Grenache with the balance of Shiraz and Mourvedre, grown to some fantastic old vine stock, most are a century of age, treated to a spell in well seasoned barrels. The oak influence is minimal, serving to complex and mature the wine rather than to impart flavour. So marked must be the profile of fruit to make the cut for Avatar, that initial classification of the components takes place immediately after vintage. Well balanced and round, a wine of earthy, savoury complexity, displaying ripe fleshy fruits, bramble and licorice spice.

The operations at Teusner are focused on exceptional wines, by being very selective about the quality of grapes, grown to old, well maintained vineyards. The sources are predominantly family and close friends. Parcels that are recognized for their suitability to barrel age are held back, as individual components, for a year before assembling. Grenache and Mataro are picked off some stately old vineyards in Ebenezer. Shiraz hails from younger but mature vines at Williamstown. Components are treated to several days of cold soak, followed by ferments peaking at 28C. Upon completion, batches are filled to a selection of seasoned oak puncheons and hogsheads for a year's maturation.

Scarlet red, darker robes. Aromas of deep set plum and dark berry fruits leap from the glass, Asian spice, roasted meats and earth, licorice and dark chocolate. The palate displays excellent texture with ripe plum and blackberry fruit, five spice, mocha chocolate and licorice. The generous, supple fruit flows over to a prolonged finish, clean and well balanced, with ripe, fine grained tannins over a seam of bright acidity.
Teusner Dog Strangler Mataro
Barossa
Available in cartons of six
In the wonderful wide world of wine, you will find over sixty aliases for Mataro. Mourvedre from the Cotes du Rhône and the Spanish Monastrell are amongst the most familiar, as well as lesser known pseudonyms such as Balzac and Esparte. Custodians of the finest parcels of Barossa Mataro, the house of Teusner are Australia's most accomplished purveyors of this complex and engaging, esoteric varietal. Teusner's favourite by far is the French construct known as estrangle chien, the dog strangler, due to its bestial tannins.

Kym Teusner is an enthusiastic winemaker, graduate of Oenology at Adelaide. He was always focused upon returning to the Barossa and experimenting with the Rhone varieties that grow so well there. This drive led him to work with several high profile producers of Rhone style wines whilst working on the launch of his own label. The Dogs outnumber the humans at Teusner, and these four legged friends are in no peril whatsoever, but the name tells something about the wine, and Teusner are sure you'll love it. Parcels of Mataro are sourced from rare, precious sites scattered all over the Barossa, Vine Vale and Greenock, Moppa and Ebenezer, to craft a wine that's complex and a joy to drink.

Deep ruby red with purple flashes. Earthy and deeply spiced, saturated with deep, ripe black and dark berry fruits, plums, blackberry and mulberry with a dash of blueberry lift and hints of earth, leather, five spice, violets and schezuan pepper. The palate is well weighted and rich with broody dark and black berry fruits. Earthy and intense, with plenty of exotic spice, a touch of floral lift and savoury, ripe Mataro tannins on the lingering finish.

The Torbreck endeavour is based around precious Barossa vineyards and a love for the classics of Rhone Valley. In 1995 Dave Powell crushed three tonnes of grapes and fermented wine in a shed on his Marananga property. He named his wine Torbreck after a forest in Scotland where he worked as a lumberjack. The deep red clay soils at Marananga produce fruit which is savoury and rich, a satin texture and glorious perfume. Shiraz is crushed straight on top of Viognier grapes which have been lightly pressed for RunRig. The mixture is co fermented and treated to twenty two months maturation in seasoned French oak barrels which have previously been used for the ageing of RunRig.

Completely black/ purple with healthy, vibrant magenta hues. A pure, wild, powerful nose of blackberry and tar is complimented by a gentle floral lift of lavender and violets. Full bodied with great concentration, lavish layers of dense blueberry fruit are perfectly interwoven with nuances of cinnamon, tar, exotic spice, pepper and dark cherry. Silky tannins and perfectly judged extract, a vigorous, lengthy finish.

Bringing the forgotten practice of share farming back to the Barossa has secured for Torbreck a regular supply of fruit from some grand old vineyards. Les Amis is an exclusively Grenache wine, vinified from fruit grown to the southern facing Homes site at Seppeltsfield, established 1901. Vines stand only inches from the ground and grapes are painstakingly picked. Bunches are destemmed into a single cement vat for several days of ferment being basket pressed directly into new French oak barriques. After eighteen months, the best barrels are marked for inclusion into Les Amis, racked and assembled. The finished wine is left to settle before bottling without the use of fining or filtration.

Dense, saturated ruby/ purple hue. Delicate scents of Chinese five spice, smoke, white flowers and roasted herbs precede a dense, brooding core of black cherry, coal and scorched earth. The well delineated palate offers tremendous texture and combines glorious fruit purity with subtle complexities and savoury elegance. Multi dimensional and incredibly intricate, Les Amis finishes on a length of crisp acidity and beautifully ripe, polished tannins.
