Pike Joyce Descente Sauvignon Blanc
Adelaide Hills
Available in cartons of six
Another exquisite effort from the marvelous Pike & Joyce property at Lenswood. Not the in your face style of overtly fruity Sauvignon Blanc, Pike and Joyce shows freshness and concentration, but also restraint, subtlety and poise. Unequivocally advancing the case that there are alternatives to Sauvignon Blanc which differ delightfully to the syrupy styles from across the ditch. A perfect match to seared fresh shellfish drizzled with herb butter sauce.

The Pike & Joyce owned and operated Lenswood Vineyard in Adelaide Hills produces wines of outstanding quality and distinctive character. One of the highest in the region at approximately 500 to 550 metres above sea level, the site contributes excellent natural acidity to the wines. Planted in the late 1990s, Lenswood represents a true cool climate vineyard, the steep sloping terrain reduces the risk of frost. Soils are gravelly, clay loams that drain extremely well. Grapes are hand harvested, lightly crushed and destemmed. Pure yeast cultures are added for delicacy. The winemaking team are quite happy to watch over the ferments during their formative stage and intervene only as necessary.

Brilliant, pale green / straw hue. Clean, fresh aromas of passionfruit, snowpea and a little citrus, backed up by notes of nettles and mineral. Quite complex. Fresh and zingy acidity on the palate keeps the wine bright and balanced finishing with a vibrant tropical /nettle flourish. Quite richly flavoured, but still has style, poise and a pleasantly dry, textural finish.

Good wine comes from a balance of controlled yields and quality fruit. The Port Phillip Estate viticultural program produces low yield, high quality grapes which display the flavour intensity of an exceptional site. There are nine productive hectares, rapidly gaining a reputation for exceptional cool climate wines. Success is based around the attention to detail and impeccable vineyard management of maestro Sandro Mosele. Parcels of estate grown Sauvignon Blanc are whole bunch pressed and treated to a wild indigenous yeast vinification in a mix of concrete vats and French oak barriques. Components are matured sur lie for several months to enhance texture and build complexity.

Bright pale straw colour. The nose is fine with spring apple blossom, nettles, cut green leafiness and hints of red currant. In the mouth it rolls mid to light in weight, has crunchy minerality and flinty acid, fresh grassy aromas and a continuation of the red currant/ green apple and apple seed flavours. The palate minerality gives it some commonality with old world styles although the fruit is fresh and primary.

Sauvignon Blanc is sourced from three Wairau sites. Cob Cottage is at the southeast corner of the valley, on the road just south of Blenheim. Summer Valley vineyard lies 800 metres to the south of Cob Cottage and is a particularly warm microclime. Roughan Lee is a small block that lies between the township of Renwick, in the heart of the valley, and the banks of Omaka River. Fruit is immediately transported to the winery, passed through a receival bin and straight into the press. Juices are cold settled over forty eight hours and racked away from gross lees before inoculation to an aromatic strain of yeast. A long cool ferment follows, a portion in French oak barriques for several months on fine lees.

Clear, brilliant pale straw. The nose exhibits initial citrus characters which then give way to more dominant tropical fruit characters, passionfruits and mango. On the palate the tropical flavour is stronger still with pineapple and pear, crisp acidity and a lengthy finish. A full bodied purist style of Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc to accompany consomme, fresh fishes or wet cheese.

Redbank selects most of it's fruit for the Long Paddock from high altitude sites and across Victoria's finest viticultural precincts. The winemaking team spend long hours in the vineyard carefully selecting each parcel of fruit at different levels of flavour development, time well spent, which contributes to the complexity and texture of the finished wine. Sauvignon Blanc from choice vineyards is handled in separate batches with varying time on skins, depending on the attributes and flavour profile. Juices are pressed off skins, free run and pressings kept separate, chilled and racked to fermentation. Vinified at cool temperatures to maximise the aromatics and retain freshness.

A very pale straw with green gold tints. Lifted aromas of passionfruit rind, nougat and custard apple with underlying grassy notes of nettle and fresh green herb. Zesty citrus acidity upfront leads into generous green tropical fruit flavours on the middle palate. This round viscosity lingers onto a fresh grapefruit pith finish. A perfect pairing for your favourite Thai salad.
Reillys Barking Mad Sauvignon Blanc
Adelaide + Clare
Available by the dozen
A frivolously labelled Sauvignon Blanc by an otherwise serious winery, Barking Mad has already created quite a name and following for itself. Designed to bring the sanity back into one's life, parcels of crisply flavoured grapes are sourced from low yielding vines in Adelaide Hills and Valley Clare. But Barking Mad? Some say it was inspired by Tessa the vineyard hound. Some claim it's about the winemaker's demeanour. Others suggest it relates to the price point for such a high quality wine. Whatever the reason we know you will enjoy Barking Mad.

Reillys know about quality fruit. Harvests of Sauvignon Blanc from the Reilly estate vineyards at Leasingham and St Clare Vines are vinified alongside parcels grown to the cooler elevated, slow ripening altitudes of Adelaide Hills. Vines are all closely husbanded and mature to an average age of ten years, fasidiously cropped to yield a lean 2.0T/acre. Grapes are either hand picked or harvested throughout the cool of night, to capture the aromatic varietal fruit characters and bracing natural acidity. Following the press and a cold settle, the purest, exclusively free run juices are inoculated and treated to a brisk, temperature controlled vinification before an early bottling to retain vitality and freshness.

Light pale straw with lime hues. Nose of cut grass, stonefruit and citrus, persimmons and snow pea. Fresh, crisp and herbaceous, persistence of gooseberry characters and ripe tropical fruit flavours, a subtle hint of spice rounds out the palate, which is perfectly balanced and finishes dry. Barking Mad is best enjoyed slightly chilled.
