Steingarten is flagship Australian Riesling, representing the very best on offer from the pick of Jacobs Creek vineyards. In 1962, Orlando Wines established the Steingarten site on a steep east facing rocky outcrop running along the western edge of the Barossa ranges, less than two kilometres from founder Johann Gramp's original property. Fruit is harvested throughout the cool of night as each parcel achieves the most optimum flavour profile and acid balance. Grapes are rapidly transported to the Jacobs Creek wineworks, crushed and chilled. The free run juices are drained and clarified with minimum skin contact, followed by a cold fermentation at 13ºC to 15ºC after inoculation by choice yeasts, which serve to enhance the delicate Riesling flavours. Cabernet is harvested from low yielding vines up to thirty years of age. Single wire trellising and cooler conditions ensure the grapes maintain good varietal character and exceptional depth of flavour. Following the crush, fruit is treated to a gentle, controlled vinification and twice daily pumpovers in a combination of rotary and static fermenters to extract the rich Cabernet flavours. Upon completion, components are matured for up to a year under a selection of French and American oak prior to final assemblage.

Deep garnet red. Warm ripe lifted aromas of mulberry, cherry jam, choc-mint and mocha with a hint of light tobacco and fine cedary oak. Well defined lifted aromas. Medium bodied, finely structured palate showing good regional dark mulberry, cherry and black currant leaf. Good fruit flavours over layers of dark fruit cake, choc-mint and mocha oak. Fine slightly dusty savoury tannins blend together to contribute to the soft velvety textured palate.

The winery was named after the siblings as a tribute to the Limestone Coast's pioneering past. Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz and Merlot are gently fermented over the course of a week with light aerative pumpovers. After gently pressing off skins, parcels are racked and transferred to a selection of new and seasoned French and American oak barrels to complete malolactic. Components are treated to an extended maturation, infusing depth and complexity whilst taming the tannins, followed by assemblage into a finely textured wine with great depth of palate and splendid lingering finish.

Vibrant dark crimson. A rich, lifted nose with aromas of raspberry, dark plum and cherry, lightly crushed fresh mint with a gentle lick of spice. The intense aromatics are enhanced by ageing in fine oak. A soft medium bodied palate showing dark plum, blackcurrant, berry and cinnamon. Various fermentation techniques are used on individual parcels of Chardonnay to build complexity into the finished wine. Components are barrel fermented in a selection of French and American oak casks under temperature controlled conditions. Some parcels are tank fermented, others are vinified on solids, a portion underwent malolactic to soften the wine. Many of the barrel fermented parcels are aged under oak, treated to extended lees contact for added complexity. Oak maturation contributes to the bouquet and palate but the fruit remains in balance and up front.

Pale straw, lime green hues. An attractive and inviting nose of lifted grapefruit, lemons and white peach over subtle nutty oak. On the tongue are rich varietal flavours with a creamy mouthful, giving great length and structure. A deep, opaque ruby colour with purple hue. The nose is ambitious with intense perfumes of black currant fruit, mulberry, raspberry and boysenberry.
