Tyrrells Stevens Semillon
Hunter Valley
Available in cartons of six
Sourced from Neil Steven's Glenoak property at Pokolbin, a scenically undulating site that's planted to a combination of light sand and red clay soils, widely regarded as one of the finest white wine vineyards in Hunter Valley. The oldest block was established circa 1911, the youngest plantings date back to 1965. Since inaugural vintage, Stevens Semillon has been awarded a breathtaking list of national and international accolades, countless wine show medals and a conspicuous tally of significant trophies.

At Tyrrell's Hunter Valley, the beginnings of five generations winemaking can be traced to an unassuming one roomed hut. The homestead of ironbark slabs was founder Edward Tyrrell's home. Built by hand in 1858 and progressively surrounded by grape vines, the site marks the birthplace of one of Australia's great winemaking dynasties. Glenoak is a predominantly hillside vineyard that features rich and unusually coloured purple ochre clay loams yielding a scant tonnage per acre. After a relatively cool fermentation, Steven spends minimal time on yeast lees, promptly bottled to maintain its freshness. Vinified completely unwooded, without any barrrel ferments or oak maturation whatsoever.

Light straw hue. Complex mineral and flint aromas with a palate dominated by the length of fruit and richness of flavour. As always with semi mature Hunter semillon, there is a wonderful balance between the fresh citrus flavours of youth and the aged toasty characters that are beginning to surface. An immensely approachable, seamlessly structured wine.
Tyrrells Stevens Shiraz
Hunter Valley
Available in cartons of six
From the distinguished Stevens family Old Hillside property at Pokolbin. The site, established 1867, may contain the oldest productive vines in Hunter Valley. Vintage is one of the earliest and shortest in Australia, yields are very low and there is an inexplicable affinity between the terroir and style of Shiraz which has brought Hunter Valley so much international renown. The small, dehydrated, ultra ripe berries, characterized by lifted levels of natural fruit sugar and toughened skins, are little treasure chests of graceful flavours and light but luscious tanins.

Tyrrell's single vineyard efforts are branded under the name of the site and are only ever bottled if the quality of vintage merits the long standing reputation of the wine. These limited editions are made to capture the nuances of growing season as it influences the fruit. The ancient vines on Old Hillside Vineyard at Pokolbin are planted to purple unochred clay loams, yielding a mere two and a half to three tonnes per acre. All grapes are hand picked and destemmed into traditional open vats for fermentation, hand plunging, pumpovers and frequent rack returns. Upon completion, batches are transferred to a selection of new and seasoned oak barriques and 2800 litres oak vessels for fifteen months maturation.

Lively, intense purple colour. Supple bouquets of red and black berries with background oak. A medium to full bodied wine, black cherries, raspberry and fresh, spicy flavours dominate the palate, refreshed by a vibrant, fresh acidity that makes Steven's a wonderful example of the modern, balanced style of Hunter Valley Shiraz.
Tyrrells Vat 1 Semillon
Hunter Valley
Available in cases of 6
Outstanding Langtons Classification. Arguably Australia's finest and most enduring Semillon, Vat 1 articulates the merits of patient bottle ageing as it transforms this pure, unoaked wine. First produced in 1963 and sourced from historic Pokolbin fruit parcels, a mature Semillon aged under the Tyrrells cellar. While drinking like a dream immediately upon release, it will continue to develop delicious bottle age characters for many years hence, a joy to experience time and time again.

The story of Tyrrell is based in no small way around the formulation of that most Australian of white wine styles, Hunter Valley Semillon. Semillon is sourced from the Short Flat and Johnno’s vineyards, established circa 1908. Vines are all dry grown and were originally planted on their own roots. Grapes are hand picked throughout the cool early hours and lightly crushed, the must is fined prior to a relatively cool fermentation. After a short period on gross lees, components are racked and matured for several months before bottling. The subsequent six years are quietly spent in a dark, temperature and humidity controlled cellaring facility at the Tyrrell Winery before release.

Mid green/ gold in colour. Ripe toasty fruit, nuts and wax characters on the bouquet. A considerable length and breadth of lemon and citrus fruit flavours on the tightly structured palate, Vat 1 is only just beginning to display toasty bottle aged complexity. Whilst drinking well now, it will continue to evolve for many years to come. Match with Moreton bay bugs, crispy skinned spatchcock or grilled whiting.
