Munamuna Marlborough Organic Sauvignon Blanc
Marlborough
Available by the dozen
Widely regarded as one of New Zealand's leading winemakers, Alan McCorkindale has over three decades experience at crafting some of the South Island's most memorable vintages. McCorkindale's efforts have claimed many trophy and gold at prestigious competitions including twice International White Wine of Year at the distinguished London International Wine Challenge. Munamuna means secret, in reference to the closely guarded location of the precious vineyards in Marlborough whence McCorkindale sources his prized Sauvignon Blanc grapes.

Munamuna believe that anything worth having deserves protection. Were McCorkindale to reveal the secret location of his vineyards, the ensuing rush to acquire any limited quantities of fruit would force prices higher and put the exquisite wines of Munamuna out of reach for many. High security fencing in the heart of Marlborough, around the region's most splendid vineyards has spurred rumours for years, but rumours are rarely true. One unscrupulous operator who knew about the sites and tried to exploit the location was last seen on a small fishing boat talking on a satellite phone in one of the local inlets. What Munamuna can safely tell you is that their Sauvignon Blanc is from the finest vineyards in Marlborough.

Light yellow straw colour. Intensely aromatic, Munamuna bursts with characters of gooseberry and passionfruit followed by hints of hawthorn and citrus. The palate is vibrant, dry, with racy acid and typical intense fruitiness. Innovative winemaking has created a lively, intense wine, culminating in a crisp acid finish. Serve chilled with seafood, fresh steamed vegetables, or enjoy on its own as a delicious and satisfying aperitif.

Nanny Goat Vineyard Pinot Noir
Central Otago
Available in cartons of six
The precious Pinot yielding Nanny Goat vines are planted to haggard aspects along Central Otago's austere valley floor. This is a region of climatic extremes, very hot summers, short autumns and bitterly cold days throughout the winter. Soils are rocky and offer poor fertility, growing conditions which are heaven sent for making world class Pinot Noir. The inhospitable climes deliver a harvest of the smallest berries, bursting with flavours, concentrated with intense varietal characters, endowed with stalky tannins and fruit laden acids.

At latitude 45 degrees south, New Zealand's Central Otago is the southernmost wine region in the world. Alpine mountains to the west, rocky ranges to the south and dry tussock covered hills to the east dominate the landscape. The unique terroir of Central Otago produces wines with incredible intensity and distinction. Nanny Goat Vineyard focuses solely on Pinot Noir. Grapes are hand picked and treated to several days of cold soak. There are seven different clones, predominantly vinified by indigenous yeasts for several days, fermented to dry while treated to cap plunges up to thrice daily. Components are matured for up to a year in a selection of new and seasoned French oak barriques.

Deep garnet colour. Dark cherry and spice with hints of liquorice, violets and leather. Up front, the palate shows dark plum and wild blackberry fruit, followed by feminine floral notes and a hint of earthy funk. Finely structured tannins and juicy acid backbone achieve length and intensity, a long and satisfying finish.

All grapes are hand picked and whole bunch pressed with only the finest free run juice reserved. The individual base wines are fermented with a selected champagne yeast and left on lees until undergoing a full malolactic fermentation in the traditional Champenoise style. Blending typically occurs in September, and at this stage a portion of reserve wine is introduced to add complexity and character to the Cuvee in a traditional non vintage style. Typically between 5% and 15%, reserve wine, consisting of stock held back from previous vintages. The assemblage is then bottled and undergoes a secondary fermentation before being aged for a minimum of thirty six months prior to disgorging.

Pale straw with a fine bead and creamy mousse. Distinctive nutty bouquet, which shows the richness of a Pinot Noir dominant blend and the benefits of extended maturation. An elegant finely structured wine in which the fruit flavours harmonise with biscuity, yeast derived complexities and crisp acidity to give a lingering dry finish.

Parcels of clone 15 Chardonnay from the Renwick block and Korohi Vineyard on Pauls Road, are vinified alongside harvests of Dijon clone 95, grown by Jim and Debbie Greer on their Rapaura Road property. These sites are stony and free draining, giving naturally low yields and fantastic depth of flavour. All blocks are hand picked to a schedule determined by full ripeness without excessive sugars, whole bunch pressed and wild yeast fermented in French oak barriques. A regimen of lees stirring post ferment adds textural richness.

Pale straw in colour. A lifted aroma of tropical fruit and melon supported by toasty oak. On the palate are grapefruit/ citrus flavours integrated with nutty/ biscuit characters derived from indigenous fermentation and lees stirring. Nautilus has a tight mineral structure in its youth and develops a creamy texture as it matures.
