A subtley structured style of elegant dark licorice fruit characters, seasoned by cinnamon and varietal black pepper, its silky mouthfeel, balance and length are supported by soft velvety tannins and framed by a delicacy of gentle nutmeg, carob oak.

Leontine O'Shea was intrumental in the establishment of Mount Pleasant wines, she sent her son Maurice to France for an education in viticulture right at the outbreak of World War I, acquiring his first Hunter Valley vineyard in 1921. Hand picked bunches of clone I10V5 Chardonnay are pressed into a selection of seasoned and new French oak puncheons for a wild, indigenous yeast ferment and nine months maturation. An intensely articulate Chardonnay of melon and peach, ripe fig and bakers brioche opulence, a lingering palate of persistence and flavour.

Fruit is harvested relatively early for a wine with relatively low alcohol and naturally high acidities. All grapes are hand picked and sent to the Mt Pleasant wineworks where they are destemmed and crushed, the musts are chilled and the juices are drained. After forty eight hours settling, the clear juices are racked off, warmed and inoculated with neutral yeast. Ferments are slow and kept at cool temperatures to retain flavour. Lovedale is bottled just three weeks after vinification and held back for several years of bottle ageing under the Mt Pleasant cellars. Alcohol 10.0%

Maurice O'Shea Shiraz is made from vines over a hundred and twenty years of age, planted by the estate's original proprietor, Charles King. A smaller portion is sourced from eighty years old rootstock on the adjoining Old Paddock Vineyard, planted by legendary winemaker Maurice O'Shea, who recognised the special characteristics and longevity of Hunter Valley wines. One of the nation's great wines, Maurice O'Shea once outscored Penfolds Grange and Henschke Hill of Grace to be the highest rating Shiraz in the Halliday Wine Companion.

The juices are inoculated with a neutral yeast to initiate vinification, which takes place in open fermentation tanks. Half way through fermentation the cap was headed down to achieve maximum extraction. The wine was then pressed to finish primary and malolactic fermentation in barrel. Once complete, Maurice O'Shea is aged in a selection of the finest quality, exclusively French oak barriques for up to eighteen months. During maturation the wine is racked and returned twice to build complexity in the middle palate, mellow the tannins and allow the sweet berry fruit to emerge.

A medium intensity red with bright crimson hues. Generous primary fruit aromas of plums, raisin and raspberries with complex nuances of paprika, pepper and smoky chocolate oak. A medium weight palate dominated by a melange of ripe red raspberry and plums. Maurice O'Shea is dense with sweet fruits and ripe fruit tannin, generous, fine grained vanillin oak and hints of spicy paprika, forming layers of complexity. Inaugurally released in 1965, Philip Shiraz maintains the tradition of extended oak maturation and bottle age before release. Vinification normally begins around February, fruit is harvested and crushed into a mix of open top and static fermenters for three days of cold soak. The musts are inoculated and batches are treated to a course of ten days plunging and pumpover, extracting optimal flavours, colour and tannin. Components are pressed into a selection of seasoned and new oak barrels for completion of ferments and fifteen months maturation, before assembling into the finished wine.

Bright crimson red. Varietal and regional aromas of ripe red and black fruits, black cherries with plum over an earthy, savoury complexity complemented by subtle chocolate oak. The medium bodied, savoury palate shows generous red fruit flavours, plum and blackberries beautifully supported by fine grained tannin, the chocolateyness of it's dashing oak complexity. A sophisticated wine of refinement, subtlety and great length.
