Stanton Killeen Classic Muscat 500ml
Rutherglen
Available in cartons of six
The Stanton & Killeen parcels are just three kilometres due west of Rutherglen, on picturesque, gently undulating pastorals. Thirty hectares of the best well drained soils are planted to vine, a mix of gravel ridges and red loam slopes, under which lie auspicious porous clays. It is on these latter soils that the Classic Muscat is grown. Sunning the oaken barrels which hold various vintages, rotation of the stocks through a complicated Solera system, slowly develops the melt in your mouth richness, an artisanal recipe handed down through six generations of Stanton Killeen.

Deep tawny scarlet. Overwhelming bouquet, rancion and nuts, jaffas and parched fruit. The palate is luscious and immediate, a rush of butter, gumnuts and honeyed citrus, fruit bread and green tea. An ebbing and flowing counterpoint between semi-dried out grapes and musty varietal sweetness, unctuous with coffee, strong cheese, fruitcakes and walnut.

One of Australia's finest examples of the abstruse hybrid grape, the progeny of a matrimony, Peloursin & Shiraz, grown to one of the world's most exclusive appellations, crafted by one of Australia's most capable custodians of Durif. Rutherglen has gained a reputation for full bodied dry reds with singular ageing potential. The Stanton & Killeen property sprawls over a roll of picturesque, gently undulating farm country. It is the local history and traditions that make Stanton & Killeen central to the history of Rutherglen and development of winemaking in Australia. Some of the original vineyards planted by Jack Stanton in 1921 are still in production and yield some of the finest fruit in the district. Norman Killeen married Jack's daughter and joined in the family business to establish Stanton and Killeen. A harvest of Rutherglen's finest Durif is vinified and aged fifteen months in a combination of new and prior use French and American oak barrels.

Dark scarlet colour. A strong varietal bouquet displaying hints of violet, cinnamon and cloves with a mix of crushed dark berries. The full bodied palate shows great appeal with spicy fruit flavours including berries and plums which are rounded out with some clean toasty oak. An outstanding balance of fruit, acid and tannin structure.

Stanton Killeen Rutherglen Ruby 500ml
Rutherglen
Available in cartons of six
A blend of varying vintages of predominantly Shiraz and Touriga Nacional wines with a smaller component of Cabernet, treated and fermented separately to the point where an addition of fine brandies arrests the innoculation, preserving natural fruit sugars, textures and varietal complexities. The wines are then held in a combination of seasoned large and small oak barrels before assembling into a ruby style of port. An immensely satisfying Rutherglen wine, with some slight barrel aged characters showing through on the bouquet and palate.

In 1864 John Lewis Stanton purchased land at Rutherglen, establishing a farm and vineyard. Today, thirty of the best hectares of well drained soils, ranging in quality from gravel ridges to red loam on the slopes under which lie porous clays, are planted to some of Rutherglen's most ancient vines. It is on the latter soils that the classic Stanton Killen fortified wines are grown. Stanton Killeen utilise the modern technologies of tanks and cool fermentation techniques counterbalanced by the traditional method of open vat fermentation, imlementing almost two centuries and six generations of Rutherglen viniculture. By 1875 the Stantons were well established as respected Rutherglen growers. John Richard Stanton continued to improve and expand the business, founding the magnificent Park View winery. Some of the original vineyards planted by Jack Stanton in 1921 are still operational and produce the finest fruit in the district. The most notable being the old Shiraz vines which provide the most distinguished material for S&K's famous Vintage Port. Six different varieties must be picked and fermented separately, assessed, aged and artisanally assembled before maturation in large 2500 litres, well seasoned oak casks, followed by a further spell of bottle age before release. Alcohol 18.0%

A viscous, deeply coloured wine. Lifted brandy spirit and dark cherry fruit dominate, blackberries and a wonderful spirit integration. More berries on the palate together with plums, spice and white pepper are rounded out with gentle chalky tannins. Spiced blackberry and black cherry flavours combine to round out the wonderfully soft finish. As always balance is the key, an harmonious combination of fruit, tannin and acid.
In 1855 Timothy Stanton abandoned his occupation as a mechanic in West Suffolk and brought his family to Australia in search of gold

In 1864 together with his son John Lewis Stanton, Timothy purchased land at Rutherglen in North East Victoria immediately establishing a farm and vineyard. By 1875 the Stantons were well established as successful Rutherglen vignerons. Timothy's grandson John Richard Stanton continued to improve and expand the business and by the 1920s had established the magnificent Park View vineyard and winery.

Stanton Killeen

The lineage continued until 1948 when Norman Killeen married Joan Stanton and in 1953 he joined her and his father-in-law in the formation of Stanton and Killeen Wines. Norman's son Chris took over as winemaker in 1981, thus becoming the sixth generation of Stanton and Killeen winemakers in the Rutherglen district.

The Stanton and Killeen property is situated three kilometres due west of Rutherglen on the Murray Valley Highway on gently undulating picturesque farming country. It is the wonderful origins of history that make this winemaking family so important to the pioneering story of Rutherglen and the development of winemaking in Australia.

Some of the original vineyards planted by Jack Stanton in 1921 are still in production and produce some of the finest fruit in the district. The most notable being the old shiraz vines which produce the now famous Jacks Block Shiraz dry red while also providing the blockbuster blending material for the equally famous Stanton and Killeen Vintage Port. Other grape varieties planted at Stanton and Killeen include Chardonnay, Durif, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Muscat, Muscadelle and the port varieties of Touriga Nacional, Tinto Cao, Tinta Barroca and Tinta Roriz.

Over 300 hectares are devoted to mixed farming enterprises while 30 hectares of the best well drained soils are planted to vines with an annual production of approximately 250 tonnes. The soil ranges in quality from gravel ridges to red loam on the slopes under which lies a porous clay. It is on these latter soils that the classic muscat, tokay and full bodied dry reds are produced.

The Stanton & Killeen winemaking facilities utilise not only the modern technology of stainless steel and cool fermentation techniques but also the traditional method of open vat fermentation, thus maintaining over one hundred years and six generations of winemaking experience, skill and mystery into the production of supreme Rutherglen wine. The winery is open for daily wine sales and tastings every day except Good Friday and Christmas Day.
