After many years of international success, Konrad Wines remain fully owned by the Hengstler family, Konrad and Sigrun, their two sons, Conrad and Carlo. The Hengstlers originally migrated from Germany to Australia. While travelling through New Zealand, Konrad discovered Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc and was immediately attracted to the distinctive character of wine. The Konrads established their first Marlborough plantings in 1996 and launched a range of wines from their forty hectares of vineyard in the Wairau and Waihopai Valleys.

Every year, after completion of harvest and fermentations, wines from the two unique climes are assembled into the most splendid vintages of Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir, a generous palette of fruit which aaffords an opportunity to maintain the same high quality and consistent quality of wines year after year. The grapes for the Gewurztraminer and the award winning Riesling are grown exclusively in the Waihopai Valley next to the estate office and family home. Quality is the absolute focus of Konrad and it starts in the vineyard where no corners are cut, it continues at the wineworks where an uncompromising standard of vinification is the key.
